Newark Liberty Airport Review

Worst TSA experience of my life. Had already been through TSA in Switzerland. Had to repeat it here due to poor layout of the airport. One TSA agent yelling at me to do one thing while another yelling at me to get moving. Both asking me to do contradictory things. Both very aggressive in their approach. Zurich TSA was kind and considerate. Here I felt heckled.

Really nice up to date airport with great food and drink selections, easy place to hang out during a layover. Really busy but lines moved fast.

If you don t have enough alcohol to wash your hands, it s safer to bring your own

Due to a technical failure, our flight was delayed overnight. We were tired carrying luggage and running around the airport. My 5 year old asked for some assistance and I checked for a cart but the staff simply refused. They however did get a cart for two younger couples. I have no idea why they refused us. I have only been to this airport twice but have found the staff's attitude to be a hit and miss......Best to rely on your own preparation when travelling with kids rather than the airport staff for anything (even directions)

I have traveled to countries which have a GDP lower than this airports yearly revenue and there airports were great. This airport needs a massive revamp. I m terminal A and it s terrible. I have not used this airport for 15 years and after today I will skip it another 20.

Terminal C is crazy, in a good way. So many places to eat!

It's an older airport, but I got through the security line at the United Airlines terminal in 10 minutes on a Saturday afternoon in January! Overall satisfied with the food options available. Plenty of seating, clean bathrooms, etc.

This is the worst airport I have ever been, and I travel a lot.

Terminal "A" is a ZOO, without enough seats (even seniors are seating on the floor).

The few eateries are crowded and there are huge lines to go to the old and awful toilets.

Connections at this airport? Never, ever again.

Newark always a better choice than JFK or LGA

Worst place . Rude incompetent employees have no respect for you or your time. Treat you like cattle. Make sure you pack plenty of patience. You will be wasting a lot of time waiting in lines. Good luck.

Very well located and the cheapest option on flights in front of JFK or LaGuardia. It has the advantage of being a medium to small airport and therefore it is not necessary to support the queues of other airports. Even in peak hours the process tends to be relatively fluid. Average food and service price with the rest of NYC airports. Easy to connect between terminals.

TSA & TSA Pre lines are incredibly long. I missed my flight. Hope you never experience it. Make sure you allot enough time before your flight. In my case, I should've allowed 3 hours for a Domestic flight... Don't let TSA Pre lull you into a false sense of security, find the line and get going, maybe even send someone in you party to wait in it. Took me 1 hour.

No complimentary free wifi only 30 min available if u don't have a US phone u won't be able to use Internet, some electrical stair are not working, and make complicated to carry the luggage from the bottom to the top to do check in again in case of connections was organize I found easily everything just follow the instructions :)

Recently went on a trip and was completely impressed with how streamline the process is now.... only thing I wish there were more restaurants in other terminals (other than B terminal) before the gate

The embarrassing lady working on the LOT goal is raising me and telling me to repack my suitcase because I have about 0.2 kg too heavy. At the end it turns out that she had a bad balance and the weight next to it was good. Can someone explain to me why only the Polish circus is in control?

It was pretty dead due to pandemic. They were cleaning and taking precautions.

Ridiculous airport- waited on Tarmac at 130 am because they didn't have a crew to marshal our plane- worst flying experience ever

Best of the big 3 NYC airports. In and out. What else could I ask for.

MISSING BETTER SIGNAL TO INCOME, IT IS A LITTLE CONFUSED WHEN IT IS UNKNOWN OR IT GOES FOR THE FIRST TIME.

Ahh, returning to the grimy, gum stained, non shiny home airport. Looks like home, I'd say.

It's nice organized airport. There are connected with air train. There are three terminals. You get train to go in city as well you get buses for downtown. You chack in online print you boarding pass and drop you luggage that's it it's too simple. After that security check and you are ready to depart. As nu rules and regulations there are no depart immigration required. Nice experience in usa .

Among the world's worst airports. Long queues, unfriendly staff, no free trolleys on arrival, exit from a different level, terrible food...the list is endless.

If there was ever a case study for poor customer experience, this airport would be it.

Fast. For me, that's all I care about. The airport is not the destination, so get me in and out quick and you'll get a fan.

All in all, it is standard airport. Many times I have flown out of Newark, and almost all of them I had experiences of disorganization when going through customs. Their new system where all of the people that go through the "domestic" customs (US Residents and Canadian Residents) have all been upgraded to the electronic system of Passport verification. This is beginning to cause more frequent delays during peak hours, and off peak hours. Once you get through customs, it is quite easy to navigate from there!

Train broken tonight. This isn't the first time and really glad I wasn't rushing for a flight. Escalators were also broken going down. Things are getting old and worn out. I'm rethinking using this airport.

Security checkpoint is super slow. Many people missed their flights because of this. They need to be fast.

Home to the cheapest flights, but you get what you pay for in most cases.

If you're just using it as transit airport, no problem at all. If you're actually going through their security, its pure hell that few airports in the US can match. The 'chaperones' seem to have been recruited from prisons, and they treat passengers like convicts and illiterates. They deliberately send TSA pre-check passengers into the wrong line, have them go through a sniffing dog quadrant (man, I never saw that at another airport - including the other two airports in the NYC area), and generally take pleasure in harrassing you.

Terrible airport. People who work there are absolutely disrespectful to you and treat you like a trash. Arrogant workers. Hope i never need to visit this airport again. Like you're going to jail...All that shouting and jelling....huh!!!

Better than JFK with easy access to NY. As everywhere, waiting times depend heavily on the time of arrival or departure.

Not a very friendly airport...Terminal A is actually 3 separate small terminals with full security checks in between them... Arrived on terminal A on one of the "wings/circular gate towers" and thought transfer would be easy because its on the same terminal but on other "wing/circular gate tower", but of course to go in between those you need to REDO the full security check so dont do any purchases of drinks before you reach your connection gate otherwise you cant bring it with you. At the price the drinks are you dont want to waste them... Terminal A is pretty much an old building...

Newark Airport is better than JFK. The circular entrance/exit system makes finding your terminal a breeze even if you miss the exit you can go around the loop and enter again. Parking is expensive as usual for airports. Inside commodities are good but not as good as some of the larger international airports in America, Europe or Asia.

Throngs of people. Fairly clean but dated interiour. Driving around the airport is terrible. Not my favorite airport.

Clean. Some staff do not wear masks fully, looks like a beard.

Below average international airport. Very little food and drink choices.

Gets the job done. Good air train connection to NJ Transit.

Be ready to spend 2+ precious hours of your time tru security check if you exchange terminals is twice the pain. Stinky bath in terminal A. Traumatic experience here.

Never in my life have I witnessed TSA as rude as I have at this airport. Especially to the elderly and people who do not speak English. I was appalled. The elderly lady in front of me was treated so poorly and yelled at when she was trying to move out of the way of the employee bringing new bins in on a cart. My bag was selected to be searched and employees argued over who s turn it was to search the bag as I m trying to calm my baby. It took 2-3 minutes before someone reluctantly agreed to do the search. I was also yelled at to remove my shoes and jacket even though I had PRECHECK and was wearing my daughter. I notified them AGAIN that we were PRECHECK and was then talked to like a child. Please educate and train your staff to remember that they work with people. Though I m sure they have to be tough, they do not have to be rude and disrespectful.

Terrible. Total disaster. Unfriendly staff. Exhausting self check in experience. Confusing bag drop off. Made us take out all food from bags. Then didnt release bags cause they had an unknown bag from another flier. Crazy lines by the gate that we had to run from line to line back and forth. Im a pretty frequent flyer. Never had such a bad airport!

This airport is underrated! They do have a lot of delays but that is part of flying to NYC. The airspace is very crowded there and there is a lot of bad weather. Terminal C is the nicest terminal. You can get a lot of good views of the NYC skyline from this airport and it is easy to get to Manhattan.

This is rightly so consistently voted the worst airport in the US! The areas are small and crowded. There is no clear signage so you don t know where to go. The areas are isolated from each other so you follow your gate signs (after you ve finally found them) and you end up being stuck with millions of people by one gate and cannot move. Every time you change terminal you have to go through security which normally is not the case. You lose so much time and lines are huuge everywhere. Food is limited in options and everything is dirty and disgusting. Ground stuff is unable to answer any questions.

I boarded Ethiopian airlines from Newark to Ghana on 1/1/2018. When I got to Ghana, the lock on my luggage was broken and when I opened the luggage, I found the broken lock in my bag and my things were scattered. It was clearly obvious that my luggage was tempered with. I find this very unreasonable and highly unprofessional. No worker should break a passenger s luggage for whatever reason without consent of the passenger. I am truly disappointed.

Good experiences for our party of six. SOUTHWEST AIRLINES ROCK out of Newark. Great food choices, coffee abundant. Our flight was delayed but seats were comfy, restrooms nearby. Airport staff courteous and helpful. No complaints. Thanks, Newark!

Waited for about 10 mins and wasnt hounded. Was nice.

It's OK. The free Wi-Fi could be better. The train takes you to Penn Station (NYC) in about 30 minutes, which makes this airport more easily accessible using public transportation than JFK.

I have never missed a flight here, even when I did they accommodated me to a better flight

Horrific experience from A-Z. Nothing good about this pathetic place except when you are finally able to get out. They hate you already. What an embarrassment to the USA. Confirms New York's status as the armpit of the nation.

Avoid if possible. I had 1hr20 minutes to collect my bag and transfer to a connecting flight. I was initially incorrectly directed in the wrong direction by SAS staff and then was permitted to enter a security line & terminal section by the initial security guard, and then cleared by the custom guard to complete the security check in. This took 40 minutes. Once I exited security there were no signs so I had asked personnel who had been sitting in the hall where signage for my gate could be located. She asked what airline and then informed me i was at the wrong gate section which was on the other end of the terminal. I had 15 minutes left by the time I cleared security for a second time and entered the aircraft. Gross incompetence. Also bathroom facilities are basically in disrepair.

It was horrible, they are not organized at all, they workers there don't even want 2 help u.

U.S. Customs and Border protection are extremely rude.

Always an efficient airport...especially with TSA and Global Entry

Worse experiencr ever. Directions to get to the entrance are way to confusing. Follow gps or sign does not matter you will get lost and probably drive in circle for like 30min straight. Staff is just as bad as the airport signs, no help at all around.

Despite not knowing him, the signage is very good, I had no loss at all and the staff were very friendly and attentive. I loved it

TSA availability is very limited in Terminal A. The time spent from initial checkpoint to actual luggage screening is often 1+ hr. Build that into your arrival time.

I ve flown exclusively SWA from EWR for years and I see this getting no better, only worse. It doesn t matter what day you fly, it s always crowded and understaffed.

Food options are decent but there is a lack of plugging options to charge devices in the terminal.

If you are coming to the city skip EWR completely.

Arrived to USA for the first time from India last week. It's sad that my first impression of the US had to be a bad one with the terrible customer service and treatment of us travelers. I was traveling with an elderly woman who needed a wheelchair. But the people who carried the elders in the wheelchair was really rude and carried them very roughly and talked and shouted at them in an extremely impolite manner. We were quite lost in the airport and was unsure where to go as we had a connecting flight and so we asked a few of the airport staff and security directions and were approached in a less than appropriate manner. After we passed baggage claim and got to the next terminal, it was one young man who carried my fellow traveler in the wheelchair who eventually guided us through customs and to the next gate. Thank you Sir whoever you were, we wouldn't have reached the next plane without you. He is the only reason I'm giving a one star for this airport because the rest of my experience here was terrible.

P.S. Clean your toilets once in a while.

Very well the accesses, the problem of the windows that are few with staff in bilingual language, help a third person to document your luggage, the waiting rooms very conservative but with modern services. Good service from United Airlines.

Nowhere decent to shop, eat or visit. So plain! At least it's simple to navigate
