I was illegally evicted by Uptown Villas in Albuquerque. When I tried to get assistance from Legal Aid, they told me that there was a conflict of interest. I didn't know that a corporation could use Legal Aid.

THIS IS WHAT THEY HAVE STATED ON THEIR WEBSITE PAGE:

As always:

I'M DISGUSTED WITH EVERY AGENCY I HAVE CALLED PLEADED WITH TO HELP PROTECT MY FAMILY & I FROM BEING VICTIMS OF HARASSMENT, STALKING, RETALIATION, FALSELY ACCUSED, INTIMIDATED & SO MUCH MORE THAT OUR PREVIOUS LANDLORD HAS PUT US THROUGH EVEN WITH FINALLY BEING GRANTED A RESTRAINING ORDER MONTHS AFTER PLEADING WITH THE COURT AFTER SHE INTENTIONALLY ALMOST RAN OUR NEIGHBOR OVER WITH HER CAR TOO. THE RESTRAINING ORDER NEVER STOPPED HER, THE POLICE NEVER DID, THE D.A'S ASSISTANT DIDN'T SHE CONTINUED TO HARASS, FOLLOW US IN HER CAR, PARK IN FRONT OF OUR NEW HOME & BEHIND IT WATCHING MY CHILDREN NOBODY WILL HELP MY FAMILY STOP THIS PERSON!!! I CALLED LEGAL AID TO BE ASKED WHERE & WHO I LIVE WITH AFTER LOSING MY JOB FROM ALL OF THIS GOING ON TO HOW MUCH DOES THE PERSON THAT IS NICE ENOUGH TO ALLOW MY CHILDREN & I TO LIVE IN THEIR HOME PAY FOR EVERYTHING? JANET WITH NM LEGAL AID TOLD ME THEY DO NOT HAVE THE RESOURCES TO HELP MY FAMILY & I AFTER I EXPLAINED MY LIVING SITUATION & I DID NOT KNOW HOW MUCH THE PERSONS HOME MY CHILDREN & I ARE STAYING WITH HOW MUCH THEY PAY FOR EVERYTHING WEEKLY OR MONTHLY. AFTER JANET TOLD ME THEY DON'T HAVE THE RESOURCES TO HELP MY FAMILY & I SHE ENDED THE CALL. I CANNOT BELIEVE HOW BADLY BROKEN OUR SYSTEM IS. HOW THEY ALLOW A PERSON TO WALK AWAY WITH NO ACCOUNTABILITY FOR VICTIMIZING A FAMILY ESPECIALLY CHILDREN. SHE DIDN'T GIVE ANY SUGGESTIONS OR ANY ADVICE ON ANYTHING LIKE IT STATES ABOVE. SHE DIDN'T EVEN KNOW HOW MUCH TIME DO I HAVE TO FILE A RESPONSE TO THE COURT. SAD WE AS VICTIMS HAVE TO PAY TO PROVE WE'RE VICTIMS!!!!

First you have to call a million times, leaving a million messages they never receive because they outsource their call center. Then you get told off for 10 minutes strait by some one with a God complex that has the comprehension of a 5 year old-Ben calling you liar and all sorts of names because he doesn t believe you. In spite of also emailing and texting him. Then, when asked if you can speak, immaturely hangs up on you. I had to file a complaint to get the head attorney to call me to get talked to and treated like a human. Why take a job helping people if you don t want to listen to them, help them, go off like a ticking time bomb on people, have no professional skills, and hang up on people???

About New Mexico Legal Aid

New Mexico Legal Aid: Advancing Fairness and Justice for All

New Mexico Legal Aid is a non-profit organization that provides free legal assistance to low-income individuals and families in New Mexico. The organization was founded in 1958 with the mission of advancing fairness and justice for all, regardless of their financial situation.

The team at New Mexico Legal Aid is made up of experienced attorneys, paralegals, and support staff who are dedicated to helping those who cannot afford legal representation. They provide a wide range of services including advice, representation, education, and advocacy on issues such as housing, employment, public benefits, family law, consumer protection, immigration law and more.

One of the unique aspects of New Mexico Legal Aid is their commitment to serving rural communities throughout the state. They have offices located in Albuquerque (the largest city in New Mexico), Santa Fe (the state capital), Las Cruces (a major city near the border with Texas), Gallup (a small town on the Navajo Nation reservation) and Roswell (a small town in southeastern New Mexico). This allows them to reach people who may not have access to legal services otherwise.

In addition to providing direct legal services to clients across the state, New Mexico Legal Aid also engages in policy advocacy work at both the state and national levels. They work with lawmakers and other organizations to promote policies that will benefit low-income individuals and families.

One example of this work is their involvement in efforts to reform eviction laws in New Mexico. In recent years there has been a growing crisis around evictions due to rising rents combined with stagnant wages. Many people are being forced out of their homes because they cannot afford rent increases or because they have fallen behind on payments due to unexpected expenses like medical bills or car repairs.

New Mexico Legal Aid has been working with other organizations such as Housing Solutions Alliance NM , Albuquerque Health Care for Homeless , Catholic Charities Archdiocese Of Santa Fe , Adelante Development Center Inc., Southwest Creations Collaborative , Enlace Comunitario etc.,to push for changes that would make it harder for landlords to evict tenants without just cause. This includes advocating for stronger tenant protections such as requiring landlords give longer notice before eviction proceedings can begin or requiring them prove just cause before evicting someone from their home.

Another area where New Mexico Legal Aid has been active is fighting against predatory lending practices by payday lenders . These lenders often target low-income individuals who are struggling financially by offering short-term loans at high interest rates which can trap borrowers into a cycle of debt that can be difficult if not impossible escape from without help from an attorney .

To combat this problem NM Law aid works closely with local community groups like Prosperity Works etc.,to educate consumers about these predatory practices so they can avoid falling victim themselves while also pushing lawmakers enact stronger regulations around payday lending industry .

Overall it's clear that NM Law aid plays an important role within our community by providing critical support those most need it while also working towards systemic change through policy advocacy efforts . If you're looking for free legal assistance anywhere within State then don't hesitate contact them today!
