Great place to learn about the city's past and your family's past. The people that work there were very friendly and helpful.
Very cool, but once you've gone once no need to return as not much changes.
We visit local historical museums all over the country as we travel but have never been here before. The building is impressive but sadly some of the lights were turned off and we could not see certain exhibits. More explanations are needed and better signage would help the visitor. Many exhibits were so low to the floor we were unable to see them.
A great place to visit to learn about the city of Milwaukee. Very friendly staff.
It's a very beautiful historic site with historical artifacts. The inside is absolutely beautiful with black and white marble walls, pillars, and gold detailing. It is very informative and interesting and does catch the attention of children. 7 dollars for adults and children 13 and under are free.
Me and my son went to the Milwaukee County Historical Society to donate a book that was written by a mayor from the early 1900 century. This book was written in 1910 a first edition and signed by the author. The staff seem to be very knowledgeable on this individual and was very grateful for our donation.
They had a fun family day we learned about everything from female bootleggers to what a monkey fur coat looks. Also we got to dine on vintage floats at a mock soda jerk stand.
This small museum is wonderfully well curated. The $5 admission fee makes it a no excuses must see when you're in MKE.
Great place for lovers of history. It's always a good idea to know where have you been to know where will you be. Plus, you'll like the architecture of this place. An extra plus, the attendant is really really nice
The Milwaukee County Historical Society is a non-profit organization that has been dedicated to preserving and presenting the rich history of Milwaukee County since its inception in 1935. The society's mission is to collect, preserve, and share the stories of the people, places, and events that have shaped Milwaukee County's past.
One of the primary ways in which the Milwaukee County Historical Society fulfills its mission is through its research library. The library houses an extensive collection of books, manuscripts, photographs, maps, and other materials related to Milwaukee County history. Researchers can access these resources by appointment or by visiting during regular hours.
In addition to its research library, the Milwaukee County Historical Society also hosts a variety of events throughout the year. These events include lectures by local historians and authors, walking tours of historic neighborhoods and landmarks in Milwaukee County, exhibits showcasing artifacts from the society's collection or on loan from other institutions or individuals.
The society also offers educational programs for students at all levels. Teachers can arrange field trips for their classes to visit one of several historic sites operated by the society or bring a speaker into their classroom for an interactive presentation on a topic related to local history.
One unique aspect of the Milwaukee County Historical Society is its commitment to preserving not just physical artifacts but also intangible cultural heritage. This includes traditions such as music and dance as well as oral histories passed down through generations.
Overall, if you are interested in learning more about Milwaukee County's rich history or want to get involved with preserving it for future generations then look no further than The Milwaukee County Historical Society!
