VERY ANGRY WITH THIS SCHOOL I WOULD GIVE IT 0 STAR...

VERY ANGRY WITH THIS SCHOOL I WOULD GIVE IT 0 STARS IF I COULD! This school use to be ok when my older kids did it 3 or 4 years ago but now they suck. They're trying to be a public school. Now you have to go to mandatory online classes all morning Monday through Friday AND go to blended for half a freaking day at their school once a week, which takes me 35 minutes to drive there!! My daughter has been having problems with school but she has minor depression and is in a program for anorexia in her church and the teachers and staff are very ununderstanding and unsupportive. Recently my daughter was withdrawn for lack of communication with staff, really? Every time she may miss a class she would email her teachers explaining why, that is a form of communication! K12 has a very bad curriculum, it is confusing and difficult to understand for my daughter she has to spend ages on a lesson because they won't explain it.

An advisor called to make a meeting with me because my daughter was behind in her school work but didn't leave her extension, but I couldn't make it last minute. I called the school to cancel and reschedule and the receptionist had me on hold for 45 minutes and then the machine just hung up on me!! I called again and the receptionist took my name and number and said the advisor would call me back. She never did. Honestly I just forgot about it because my daughter managed to catch up in all of her subjects except for math a week later so I thought everything was fine. Later I found they just marked the meeting as a no call no show, they never even called me to check of on me or return my call.

Last time I got a call from a teacher was March 31, I spoke to a teacher march 29, I'm sorry when teachers aren't calling me I assume everything is fine and she was caught up or nearly caught up in her subjects except for math. and today when my daughter logged in to go to her class like she does every single damn morning she was locked out. I called to find out why and was told she was withdrawn from school. Like seriously I was not warned or threatened or anything! I called a woman who was very rude to me and told me multiple calls and emails were made and they she herself sent to letters to my home, when it is not true!!!! And she has no way to prove to me that any letters to my home have been sent! She was very rude and kept repeating the same this over and over again and did not pause to let me speak, I don't know how she talked so long without stopping to breath honestly.

School ends in less than two months and after my daughter has worked so hard to get back on track they told her to just go to another school and start the semester over when she was on track to be fully caught up in all her subjects by the end of the month, aka two weeks. She was even signed up for her midterms to take next week which she now can't take.

This is a school full of lazy and unorganized teachers and administrators who don't know how to do their job and I find it unbelievable that they're college educated. They would rather ship your kid off to another school than work with them and be supportive. Don't enroll your kid here, go to Connections or even just a public school, they both have a much better support team and a more thorough staff who know what they're doing. Withdrawing or expelling a child from school should be a last resort not a first or second!! Lazy employees...

Everything was going well when I was enrolling, and when I went to orientation, I thought I was gonna be fine. Now I know that this program doesn't work with chrome so on the first day of school I used Microsoft instead and I did have a little trouble getting into the first class, but I was able to get in. The second class, though, is a different story, I downloaded what I needed to download but it wouldn't run, I followed the instructions and it still didn't work, I even tried calling and they didn't answer, even though I called a bunch of times. Also when they call you and you are not able to respond at that moment and try calling again they don't answer. The program is too complicated, unless you know plenty about computers, then I don't recommend this program. The program doesn't work.

This year I'm attending k12 until I move to Idaho. I couldn't find a date when school actually started! Finally I found a k12 calendar, it said August 24th. I log in to the site thinking I would have everything ready to go on the 24th. There is no classes or teachers on my OLS. So I call them, the man on the phone says school started on the 22nd. I had no clue when school actually starts! I will have to wait until my books come, and then start school next week. I'm going to be behind now, thanks K12!

Don't get me wrong, the content is good. What isn't great is that all the teachers do to help kids with finals is review some questions and have live help. No study guides; and some of those finals really are harsh. Another thing that isn't so great is that they changed the quiz taking limit to one attempt instead of three. If this is their way of trying to make their school better, by making it stricter, then they are probably going to lose some students. Maybe they should focus on them instead; find out what the students think could be improved. They are the clients, after all.

We started last year at 2nd semester when we had to pull my daughter out of public school for health reasons. We loved it last year, once we got used to all the work. This year, however, it's ridiculous how much work she has! She's in 5th grade but it's because NVVA changed to the pathways. She spends 3 hours in live clases Mon-Thurs then has her other subjects as well as homework to go over. The live classes are good if she is stuck on something on math but most of the time she's bored because she gets it and is sitting there waiting for her stuff to get graded. We love her home teacher but I believe we'll be going to a different virtual school next school year.

This is our first year and i am not happy at all. I've had many problems so far. I recently started looking through grades and kmails double checking the teachers work to find out why my honor roll student has bad grades this year and found numerous assignments that i know were completed and turned in on time were marked zero. Teachers responses for both of my boys were " semester 1 is over so i cant change the grades now. Water under the bridge." I am currently searching for a new school and will be sure to let everybody know how horrible and unorganized this program is.

We have two kids in the school and we started 4 years ago. The school has done a good job providing the resources we need to educate our kids. It's not perfect, but no school is. It provides flexibility and ability to do additional work in areas that need strengthened. Teachers are overall responsive to our concerns. We are staying until we get to high school. Both our kids are straight A students and score well on the state mandates tests.

I'm now going into my first year of high school here. I was in eighth grade last year and I really liked it. All of my teachers were kind and took the time to help me if I needed it. I've only had good experiences with this school so it's odd to see so many iffy reviews. I guess it depends on the student. My teachers always got back to me same day if I emailed them and were always very helpful. So all I have is good things to say.

I really like this school, it has nice teachers, my counsellor is great, but I have a huge problem with finals. I am someone who does fairly well in school when I try, I currently have straight a's (which might change bc of finals even though I put in MANY hours daily, sometimes even on weekends to maintain a's) The finals here are impossible for me, they use proctorU, which causes me so much stress and wastes so much of my time, because they literally hunt for cheating the entire test (which I understand SOME kids do), every little thing you do raises a question. How is that a good environment to test in, especially for students with anxiety? I wasn't even worried about my exam, I studied for a week beforehand and my grade was at a 95%, but nope my anxiety goes through the roof because I'm scared my proctor will think something I did was cheating, and I can't focus so I get a 40% on my final. I just think that if the school is so concerned with cheating, they should use final projects/essays instead of tests, they are much more accurate when judging a student's understanding, and they are more difficult to cheat on. My last school, Beacon academy, used final projects, and I found those much less intimidating and more enjoyable. There has been numerous experiments done that prove tests do not accurately judge a student's understanding, and they put high performing student's at a disadvantage because of stress and misunderstanding questions. I would give 5 stars, but because of the amount of time I put into doing good in this school, to only get knocked down a grade in less than a couple hours is more than strussful, it's unmotivating.

My sister is a serious tennis player and since this school was ok (just ok, not good) back when I did it a few years ago we're giving it a shot for her. Her experience has been horrible! The whole reason she left public school to do online schooling was the promise of flexibility, and this school has none of that. The mandatpry classes online are all morning five days a week is really interfering with her sports, there is really no point. Her teacher even told my mom this is not a flexible school and she shouldn't expect any school to be flexible for sports, seriously?? She will be going back to public school next semester since it's the same thing and the education will probably be better!

Best school ever my child has learned so so much and the staff and everyone are amazing and trash cans by 711 is not going to effect a child's learning the school is I tell all my friends put your child in k12 .I understand that it is a lot of work and if it is then k12 is not for you but hey I love it I get to grow with my child and see all the stuff she is doing and don't have to worry is the teacher being mean or are kids picking on her because that can get their focus off track but these teachers are amazing they help with what ever they can public school for us is a no no they have too many students to one class and the kids are bad and teachers are stressed and that does not make for a good teacher.

We didn t even make it to the first day because of our experiences with this agency. I wouldn t even give them one star!! Nothing but trouble with them. Severe lack of communication in their agency. Among other things, They asked me 7 times for information in which I had told them was not applicable. Their understanding of what they had been told was atrocious. They wouldn t listen even after repeating myself constantly. They constantly lied to us. Who would trust their flesh and blood to an agency this horrible???

Very dissatisfied with the enrollment process. This school is not flexible AT ALL. Upon the first call everyone is very kind and welcoming then the harassing phone calls begin. I submitted all documentation and received materials and lessons. The next day I prepare my students to login to find out our accounts have been locked because we need to do some in person orientation. I think it would have been courteous to tell me as the caretaker in advance that you are required to meet in person. If I wanted to sit at schools I could have done traditional schools. Then the rude lady tells me this is the last day for elementary but you can do your middle schooler at this point only. Well that is defeating the whole purpose as I don't have one child in need of an education. She then proceeds to give me one more time to come in for the very next day. No thank you. I found a much better online school that is actually online and doesn't need you to run down to the school in the middle of the work week. I would not recommend this school to anyone.

So I don t have the choice to put 0 stars but if I could I would. These teachers need to learn how to grade assignments and how to specify about their assignments. If you want your students then turn in hand written work on and ONLINE school than you might as well be a real teacher not at an online school. Yes they have an actual school but do a majority of their students go to the actual school, NO. So please if you are going to fail your students do it with reasoning not because they didn t hand write, specify something so little, add detail or whatever. This school is the worst online school yet. These teachers need to get their priorities straight or just not even be a teacher at all. It s so surprising how many teachers in this world got a masters degree in teaching and just do not know how to teach. If you want a good review get your school together and get better teachers that KNOW HOW TO TEACH. Would it have been better if I had hand written this review or can you not read this on your computer. Thank you so much for your time and thank you for wasting a lot of other s.

I noticed my son doing work in a team all by himself. Notified the teacher of this, the teacher didnt get back to me after the class was over. I was referred to talking to the "strategist" and was implicitly told she isnt an admin but she should be able to take care of my concerns.

my conversation, or should I say her talking at me, cutting me off ALOT(So much my wife told me I should hang up because she could hear the whole call) telling me my ideas of a solution doesnt matter because grades dont matter, "she has several students that failed and students dont care so why should they." "Participation isnt required because they have no way to enforce it." i asked her if they can see what students puts what on the board, she said yes, I asked if they can see what students deleted and she said no. If they have logs of the classroom and its activities, then they can grade based off of participation... or well i guess not since she was adamant that "grades dont matter". I asked her how come the teacher couldnt respond to a question asked in classroom chat and she said the teachers are too busy. I asked to speak to someone above her or a school admin, she told me the person above her wont take my call.

from this call i gathered:
1. Grades dont matter to this school therefore they dont care if your child fails or passes. As a parent I want the best for my child, I want to set them up for success.
2. Participation doesnt matter, group discussions are good for children, they learn more, they get a chance to explain their understanding, they get a chance to learn things they miss, and it gives the teacher a chance to clear up any misunderstandings.
3. Teachers are to busy, our partner in educating our children is to busy, so why are they a partner?

I am now homeschooling my child, i am giving him the discussions he needed in class, and he is already doing way better.

Nevada Virtual Academy or NVVA is a good school. Y...

Nevada Virtual Academy or NVVA is a good school. Yeah the work is hard sometimes but that's just school life, it can't all be easy. Most of the teachers are new but they try their hardest. This school is great compared to other schools because you don't have to worry as much if your kid is in a online school rather than a public school. You don't have to be unaware of anything happening in your child's life. NVVA encourages parents to take part in their child's education and that's why they have Learning Coach, who also have their own account to make sure their kid is doing what he/her is suppose to be doing. Now if your looking for your kid to be social I wouldn't recommend NVVA, they do have blended for certain grades (which is at their Sanhill location) on certain days but the socializing doesn't last as long as it would in a public school. Anyways, NVVA is the best school I've been too in a long time, and it might be the best school to send your kid too.

Just adding a note to say that we still like NVVA as of December 2020

------------------------ Original Review Follows ------------------------

My two kids just finished their first year at NVVA. I continue to be very pleased and often surprised at how well the school is run. Teacher and admin communication is very good and I believe they do care about students and learning coaches (parents or guardians that watch over students and have an online account for that role). Some teachers are better than others but that is true of all schools. All the teachers are very responsive and you can speak with them directly if you choose. Our previous school district was FCPS in Virginia so we come from good schools, some of the best in the nation. I would say though that the school is not challenging enough for my kids but we add the challenges outside of school. In the end, most US public schools don't teach what kids need to know these days anyway so NVVA makes it easy to fulfill the requirements of the state but still have time to teach kids how to think outside of school hours.

NVVA uses the K12 online platform which is pretty good overall but could be simplified some. They have a mobile app which is very useful for watching over kid's progress and the desktop site also good.

My kids do not go to the on-site classes that are available for kids who fall behind or are not doing well enough to maintain a passing average. However, onsite testing is required about twice per year and the facility has always been clean and the staff courteous and helpful.

Kindergarten in a brick and mortar public school i...

Kindergarten in a brick and mortar public school in Nevada was great for my son, but then after the first grade, and then the second, he needed other school options. After being born and raised in Nevada, I started to see similar struggles I went through and unfortunately the Nevada school systems have been broken for some time and NVVA became a breath of fresh air for us. My son was enrolled in NVVA for five years, and we loved every year! Before our move to Texas though, our last year was filled with lots of emails from NVVA asking for help to save the school. So unfortunate that we finally have a wonderful option for our children in Nevada and the state wants to shut it down?! If it hadn t been for NVVA, my son would have arrived clueless into a wonderful school system, but thankfully he arrived prepared academically, and is currently enrolled in a public Highschool here in Texas and is in the top ten percent of his class of 800 sophomore kiddos alone. The curriculum offered through NVVA K12 is absolutely wonderful, especially the history program. If you choose to homeschool through NVVA know that it is a full time job, but worth every minute for your child s future! The two things I wish the state of Nevada would look at; school districts across Texas and how they structure them. Help Nevada schools, don t fight with them, it only detracts students from learning and accomplishes nothing. Midway ISD is an incredible example to look into for Nevada structure and Texas Online Prepatory. Let s build up our Nevada schools, not tear them down. Our children are our most vital and precious resource.

So I went to enroll my daughter in this school and along the way we decided to go with another option. While I thought canceling the enrollment process would be easy it was not. I've called and emailed multiple people only getting the run around and going in circles. They definitely don't have their stuff together or just want to make it quite hard or frustrating to dis enroll my daughter....my advice just stay away and go to connections.

This online school is very disorganized. I can never get in touch with the counselors or the office staff. The woman in the front office answers and sends you to to a different phone that always dissconnects. She gets irritated when you call again because the line goes to voicemail. Then she will ignore your call a few times and answer with attitude. If you leave a voicemail no one ever gets back to you. It's very disrespectful, especially if you need to get a hold with someone for somthing important. Very angry and unimpressed.

Currently enrolled and do enjoy the freedom of working independently from home with the structure and materials provided. It teacher is supportive and for us this far it's working out well... She is available for class connect sessions and support at a local community center weekly. Our teacher has also been prompt at responding to calls and emails for questions we've had. I've never had an experience with an online public school but this far this seems like they are doing a fair job. My only critique is that the online forum is dated and at times difficult to navigate through, there are too many ways to get to one point and the prompts for my daughter (kindergarten) sometimes are not clear when she is completing something online independently.

If i could give this 0 stars, I would.

If i could give this 0 stars, I would.
I went to school here last year, and oh my god, it sucked. The white English teacher was very racist. I am not complaining because I didn't like learning, no, heavens no. I am - not to brag - smart. So I was given bad grades on my English assignments just because I was a Pacific Islander!
Of course, some teachers were nice. Best Math & Art/History/Science teachers ever! So supportive and possibly the only great things in this school.

The workload is too much. Every single day, there's a new topic. Every single day, there's a unit test. Are you serious?! At one school I attended, the workload was one topic a week! So much better than this online school.
The campus is also very trashy. Trash cans and 7-11 soda bottles litter the floor outside. The sofa that used to be outside was covered in vomit stains and pee stains! Good thing they took that out!
Basically, this school is not okay. Send your children somewhere else.

My 10 yrs. old girl soon be 7th grade and seven yrs. old boy , 3rd grade were been attending K12 or Virtual Academy since kindergarten. They started from CAVA -California then continuing here in Nevada or NVVA. Both of my kids are in Independent Pathway -meaning they study, learn and progress independently. They love virtual academy or NVVA , because- not only they can move on year/s ahead, they also have all the freedom to do their extra-curricular activities after completing their own lesson each day.
NVVA - wonderful teachers, plus + wonderful staff = great students. WE love you NVVA.

My daughter has been in this school since Kinderga...

My daughter has been in this school since Kindergarten and she is now going into the 3rd grade. Up until last year we did not have any problems. Last year the teacher she was assigned needed more education herself. The teacher did not understand that computers can have latency due to internet connection and when giving my daughter a reading test on the computer where she was watched through an webcam, she kept making my daughter read the same sentence over and over. At some point she just closed the session and the next email we received was that my daughter was being put in remedial reading. When advised to make an appointment with us to have a reading test done in person, she ignored the request. My daughter completes the year with straight A's and making the all A honor roll. Last week I receive a letter stating that my daughter is to be put into a new program called Blended Pathways which means they want me to take my daughter to the school for a 1/2 day once a week. I pay a learning coach to work one on one with my daughter. What is 1/2 day once a week going to do for her? I called the school to explain that I did not agree with this and I did not want my daughter in this program . The vice principal kept trying to tell me that my daughter was behind that is why she was put in this program. How is she behind if she completed the curriculum and made straight A's? I asked him if this was going to be a problem and would she be marked absent when she does not show up for this class and if I should enroll her in another virtual school. His answer was to enroll her in another school. REALLY? You are suppose to be a leader and the vice principal. I would think that you would want to keep the kids in your school not send them off to another one. Especially a straight A student. You certainly make a great marketer for other schools. The other problem I have with this is that this decision had to be made 2 days before school starts. And I certainly do not want my daughter to lead by your example. You got your wish. I now have her enrolled in Connections Academy.

I've been here at NVVA since October, when I transferred with failing grades. Thanks to hard work, supportive teachers, and wonderful staff members, I was able to turn all of those grades into As Bs and one C (because math is hard). This school is only flexible if you allow it to be. The student has to understand that time management is everything, and must know their priorities, as you are bound to choose between going to one class versus another.
In this semester, I have As and Bs again, but the teachers are so supportive they will help your child. Again, teachers are very supportive. At first, it may seem like your child has a lot of work on their hands, even if they start at the beginning of a semester. Don't freak out. It only makes them stress and worry more. In reality, it isn't as much work as it seems, and if they're caught up, it becomes much faster to work with. Also, if they're behind, there is a 7 day policy where, if you turn it in within seven days, you will not lose a letter grade. You'll just have to remember that sending them in on time counts toward attendance.
In short, I recommend this school to anyone. I may not know how it works with younger grades, but it is the perfect high school; no judgement, no bullying, and almost no drama. With that, I leave it to you.

I'm currently a student at this school and it's a complete joke. anytime an essay is assigned the prompts are extremely vague and when you ask them to explain it they completely contradict what the prompt is saying, Ive had this happen in multiple classes some of which have two teachers who contradict what the other one is saying.the type of "hands off" learning that they're trying to implement doesn't work if the assignments don't have proper instructions. Also the A+ program that one of my classes is on isn't compatible with my computer, and I was told a representative was going to call me, but that never happened. I have called k-12 tech support and they haven't been able to do anything except send me to someone else. this is the worst school I have ever attended.

Absolutely pleased with this school. My son has been a student since he was in 4th grade and is currently a member of the 3rd Jump Start College cohort. He will be graduating from high school with an Advanced Honors Diploma... as well as from college with an Associates Degree!

Every teacher and counselor he has worked with throughout the years have been incredibly supportive and encouraging! The staff is so helpful and friendly... we have ZERO complaints.

Every advisor and department head we've met in all colleges we've visited were beyond impressed with the education and guidance he received throughout high school. He's been awarded a full-ride to the University of his choice - as well as inducted as a member of an international honor society for 2-year colleges.

Because he is graduating from a dual-degree program, he will start college in the fall as a Junior and has been invited to the university's honors program.

Thank you, NVVA for the opportunities and experiences! Highly recommended!

The communication at this school is a complete joke. Quickly realized that online school was not for me after attending here. Was also told I would graduate early, but I am here now without the correct credits to graduate because I was not put in the right classes, and then told there was nothing they can do. Some of my teachers are nice, but that s about the only good thing. Don t waste your time here. Sorry!

As recently as yesterday, My son logged on to his K12 profile to find that he couldn't complete any of his math assignments. I was very upset to learn, because I wasn't notified by a teacher or any staff member for that matter, that he will only be taught math during class connect sessions. I wouldn't have a problem with this, if the math instructor was actually teaching my child a practical way to do long division and multiplication using three and four digit numbers. Instead they are made to use tape charts, cubes, and the "decay method" which adds like ten extra steps to math problems that could be solved in three! It is now, also mandatory for students to attend class connect sessions that are a complete waste of time. My child learns nothing from these classes. In addition to a pile of classwork, he is assigned homework that doesn't even get checked. I am extremely dissatisfied with the changes made this year. As a parent and learning coach, I feel as though this program is not for independent thinkers/learners. Once this semester has ended, we'll take our chances elsewhere.
