It is with utter disgust that I write this complaint as I was subject to MOCKERY as an African black lady by one of your Burger Radiologists while being assisted by one of your staff there named Bervitha who asked whether I had a pin to pin my Brazilian hair extensions or just take off the hair", I pinned It as requested and told her she cannot be serious instead she laughed and went along with the X-ray as if she said nothing. it s a shame that as African black woman we are subject to such mockery by your (Indian) staff member at a place where we should be getting help with our health instead we you ridiculed whilst sick.

I arrived on my own at 3am one morning( Sat 14 November 2015) as I had an allergic reaction to my BP medication. First of all there was no available parking near the Emergency Dept entrance. Big Fail!
Next, after reporting at the desk, where the people were friendly and efficient (thank you) I was asked to wait. One other person was waiting there.
I eventually got called, but by then the allergic reaction (swollen tongue) had started to subside and a nurse tended to me and I had to wait for the doctor (for 45 mins as described by the pamphlet I was given). When the doctor eventually arrived she gave me a cursory examination, gave me a prescription for 5 meds, including throat lozenges and I went home 2 hours later.
The Olivedale is my nearest hospital and I expected better from a Netcare hospital in case of emergency.

I have been waiting for more than three hours now. Eventually a bed has become available. It s unacceptable that a sick person has to wait so long for a bed. Nursing staff were nice just very slow.

I'm so scared that I'm to Birthday here in 3months..... But first let say the nursing staff at the maternity ward service is great.... I was admitted the Wednesday night sent for a MRI the Thursday morning thereafter awaiting to see a specialist to brief me on results and treatment. Come the Saturday still no specialist nurses can only assist with pain medication. Bloods were done early Saturday. I'm 26weeks pregnant the service of the doctors and specialist is really one to question. Ooooh did I mention the Friday afternoon I had a visit from accounts department informing me that authorisation is still pending from my medical aid and I had to do her job and call the medical aid clinical department. So much for service...I'm still yet to discover when a specialist will pitch or will I be billed for no service..

We were very surprised at how bad the service is at the reception area on number of occasions. Ladies don't even wait for you to finish with enquires, they just simply cannot wait to get you off their case. Disgusting! That has led us to look for another much more professional clinic and we have found one. Thanks

Experience at maternity ward..my gynae was dr ndlovu a real sweet heart of a doctor.
Begining of admission ms sandy had been assisting me and she was by far excellent on every level of service.my night nurses where excellent aswell.
Would like to teach the security guard at maternity ward manners.they had no way of speaking to my visitors.(just rude on all levels)
But if i minus them and just have the rest of the nurses and my doctor ndlovu and ms sandy.i would say i loved it.i would reccomend them :)

Wasn't a bad experience except the doctor gave me a prescription that had been discontinued? how does that happen? i spent a whole day trying different pharmacies - not great when you aren't feeling great, that aside the staff were friendly - all except one who was taking details in triage- like 0 compassion. she shouldn't be working there - the accountant had a better bedside manner.

Went there twice for emergency and both times i had to wait around 45 minutes to see a doctor which is acceptable with minor injuries like a smashed toe as well as twisted joint. Staff was always friendly and very helpful. Would go there any time again. 1 star less as the seats at the waiting area are quite uncomfortable

I do not recommend going to Netcare Olivedale... it is a run down private hospital where the staff is rude, impatient and not helpful. I went to the ER for stitches and the Dr was rough with my stiches, and almost irritable that she had to be there. The Dr also didn't give instructions on how to care for the wound! Bad experience!

Amateur Hour is how i would describe this Hospital ... and it is Private.

If you do not have the choice of Hospital all i can say is keep a very close eye on your relative that is in there.

My father was restrained after we left this morning, because he was distressed and was still restrained when we arrived for afternoon visiting. He drank 3 massive glasses of water when we were there because he was so thirsty.

Oh and you have to make an appointment to see the doctor for an update on them ... WTF.

DR Aletha Savvidou completely ingnored us this morning when she saw my father and then the Nurse said we had to make an appointment to see her for an update ... can you believe it. Oh and on a side note, she might want to have her brain to tell her face to smile once in a while, i think it is called a .... bedside manner.

We pay an absolute fortune for them to be treated privately and these mugs think they are Gods gift to Doctors, what a joke.

I will update this as the week goes on, lets hope it gets better !

I took my son to the hospital late at night, we got there and were attended to immediately, referred to x-ray and went back to see the doc for the results. As we wait for the Doctor there was then an emergency and she had to leave and attend to that as she was the only doctor working at that time. I mean this is a private hospital why would it have one doctor for emergency? If 3 people arrive at the same time who needs immediate attention then what? I found this to be disappointing as this is what we run away from in public hospitals and if we get the same in private hospitals then why pay for medical aid? Olivedale needs to up its game..

While the surgeons here are good, I fail to understand the logic of day to day logistics. HOW does a hospital not have a supply of adult diapers?? The patient's family must supply....
And WHY can they not order from the in-house pharmacy and add it to the patient's bill? They're not afraid to add anything to a bill!
The mind boggles. Seriously

My Mom was admitted into Olivedale 2.5 weeks ago as a stroke patient. Most of her time was spent in Section 6, ward 6. I cannot recommend the sister's, nurses and staff enough for taking care of her. The day staff whom I mainly interacted with, were friendly and showed her the utmost care. They truly did become family during this time. Thank you for all your love and caring, ladies!

On behalf of Tim Goodman. I was admitted to your hospital on the 7 July 2020 for an angiogram. The care and service I received I cannot fault. I would like to thank Dr Dello, Sister Francesca, all the staff that assisted as well as Hazel from Dr Dello's rooms. The care, concern, feedback was amazing. Kind regards Tim Goodman.

Really disappointing and shocking experience from ...

Really disappointing and shocking experience from Olivedale Hospital. Went to them this evening after my husband was attacked and stabbed in the face. He was bleeding relentlessly. He had gone to the police station to open a case however they advised that he needed to take the J88 form and have that filled in by the doctor inspecting him. He then drove in this state to the hospital where he was coded yellow triage despite his severe bleeding and stab wounds. We waited for 20 mins before being attended to which I found to be quite alarming considering the manner in which he was loosing blood, the Constable who was assisting his with the case also expressed concern and stated that he had bled all over their counter when he arrived to open up the charge. We eventually got to see a doctor and he refused to complete the form in order for us to open the assault case as the police advised that we could not obtain a case number without this vital piece of information. The doctor brushed my husbands injuries off and said that they wee minor facial abrasions, my husband also complained of his nose and leg being painful, the doctor stated that this was not broken as it would look a certain way if it was, really?? All that was done was cleaning the wound- no injection was administered either which was shocking to me. My husband is not on medical aid and we paid a lot of money in order to be attended to by a doctor- what a complete waste of our money. I have the pictures for anyone who thinks that these were "minor facial abrasions".
Moral of the story is that we then went back to the police station, the hospital and staff refused to sign off the form and the police had to open a case without this information. Olivedale Hospital was completely unhelpful and a know utter rip off. I thought that taking my husband to a private hospital would be a better option than a government one as I trusted that he would receive better care- this was not the case. Thanks for charging us an exorbitant amount of money to wipe off the blood- which I might add was still bleeding after being attended to by the doctor and nurse. I will be pursuing this matter further

I was reffered to Dr Gumata at the Netcare Olivedale Hospital, my appointment was made in November for today(15 Jan 2020) at 1pm, we drove from Secunda (+-200km) to get there at 12:45,only to find 5 people ahead of us,the receptionist then mentioned that the doc will be leaving at 3pm,she then told her that our appointment was at 1pm and that we drove all that way and asked if she could please assist as it would be difficult to come back the next day, she said that the doctor will see us before she left so we waited until 3:15pm for a 1pm appointment only to be told that the doctor had left through the back, the receptionist then suggested we stay over in Jhb and she will try and help us first thing in the morning, I was very disappointed in the lack of professionalism.

Definitely one of the better hospitals in the Johannesburg area. Facility is clean and the staff are very welcoming & helpful. Going forward this will be my preferred hospital to visit as I believe the other hospitals in the area don't come close to how good this hospital is. Recommended, 100%.

I was treated at the hospital the morning of the 1...

I was treated at the hospital the morning of the 17th of March 2017, Nurse Moalusi and Dr Monakise provided me with the best care. They went over and beyond to make sure that for the duration of my stay I got the best they could offer. Dr Monakise went as far as to consult my specialists to discuss treatment options and booked an emergency physio session on my behalf. The reasons for Medication administered were explained. Dr Monakise and Nurse Moalusi really demonstrated good bedside manners.

One down moment was at the triage room, the attending lady (who did not introduce herself, hence I don't know her name) was not friendly at all to myself and my husband. I am saying this because I have encountered pleasant people before, who made sure to explain what their duties were before strapping and attaching things to my body. Her demeanor throughout the entire process was just upsetting and eventually told me to leave when we were done without offering assistance even after seeing my husband helping me sit at the beginning. I had to ask her for help since she told my husband hospital policy prohibits him from being in the room with me, even then, she was not gentle as it looked as though she was irritated. Just a short description of her, she is black, her hair is parted in the middle with two corn row plaits and shaved on the sides.

I am keeping my rating at 5 stars, refusing to paint everyone with the same brush.

Had such a horrible experience. Our domestic had a suspected mini stroke and Olivedale Emergency was the closest. We had to wait approximately 3h to get feedback from the doctor and saw how other patients with serious problems were also not being attended to. Just to be told after 3h that if we cant afford to have her submitted, she needs to go to Joburg Gen or Helen Joseph.

Yet, come discharge hour they couldn't get the EFT Point of Sale Machine to us faster, because in health care, who gives a damn about the patient's health, we just want the money.

The staff at section 4 are the most incompetent and Ineffestant team. Including the head sister of that unit they are slow at responding to emergency alets, forget to provide meds, complain that they are understaffed but yet they have time chit-chat. The standerd of this hospital hasdrop dramatically. I would not recommend this hospital at all due to the bad teament.infact I don't think that any of them should be practising as caregivers at all. Managed should really start to re evaluate the staff selection

Had the best experience ever...

I was admitted in the maternity ward and the day nurses were extremely nice and knew what they were doing and gave me the support I needed as a new mom. Had thee best doctors who made sure I m calm throughout the process and my little one get to this world safe and sound, and the pediatrician was the best.

Had the best 3 days, the food was top notch as if it s from some fancy restaurant. Well done to whoever prepare food, from breakfast to dinner all was perfect. And the kitchen staff were very nice to me, I really appreciate their support too.

The only problem I had was some of the night nurses, they made a lot of noise throughout the night and hardly helped out with the baby when I needed help.

Apart from that, everything went smooth.

Worse Hospital experience ever!!! Avoid at all cost or go to government hospital. Had a small procedure would take nothing more than 15 min and so it did but they had me waiting in the waiting area from 6am till 1pm when I told them to call me when They can eventually find a bed. They called me to be back and had to wait another 2 hours for procedure. Then after the procedure they needed more forms signed, Like they haven t wasted enough of my time. They will never see me again! Waiting 10 hours for a scheduled appointment is not ok. Doesn t matter how many times you apologized.

Pray that you never get admitted to Netcare Olivedale! My father was admitted for two days and he was treated like garbage by the staff members in emergency, section 1 and section 9.

My father is 85 and we came to visit him on day two and he had tears pouring down his face because of the mistreatment so we immediately checked him out.

He was sitting in his own urine, which the nurse hadn't noticed - my father had asked for a nappy but the nurse simply laughed at him. He had bruises on his arm from the nurses pulling him and sores on his feet. He was also starving - the nurses allegedly would place the food and drink just out of his reach and then come and collect the food and/or drinks - we have a witness to this.

All the specialist was worried about was the fact that she had ordered the pacemaker, which my father had NOT agreed to. The 'care' in Netcare is a misnomer - we saw no care - just lazy incompetence.

We contacted the hospital and spoke with the client care person who said she will compile a report (for us and the person in the bed next to my father as he was also mistreated and his daughter complained). She promised to get back to us - we are waiting...

(My mother in law received much better treatment at Helen Joseph hospital!)

Was admitted at the maternity ward and the admitting nurse was very rude and harsh with me, she conveniently forgot to mention add my name for the meals so I had no dinner or breakfast. Was admitted at 15:15 and I m the process I vomited due to premature Labour so by the time it was about 21:00 I was starving and my husband had to buy food for me in the canteen. I only found out in the morning when I enquired about breakfast that the kitchen staff didn t know I was there. So I had to call Mr delivery because as a pregnant woman by that time (just before 9:00) I was starving. My room was right by their work station and the noise throughout the night was unbearable, I also happened to hear everything that was discussed in their staff meeting which lasted for about an hour and all I heard was their supervisor complaining about them. My stay there was very unpleasant and you will never see me set foot there again.

Shocked at the service received in section 4! my sister went in for a knee op and when she came out from the op there was nobody there to assist her, she had been calling for a nurse to help her go to the toilet and nobody came. Desperate for the loo she decided to attempt to get to the bathroom on her own, in excruciating pain she called for help again half way off the hospital bed when a nurse came in and noticed that they had never given her the emergency button to call for assistance.

She was then brought lunch which was a ham a cheese sandwich, this would have been substantial is she wasn't a vegan which she had told them in the beginning, after multiple attempts to get something to eat she eventually got what was supposed to be roasted veg and a salad. This consisted of 2 pieces of tomato and cucumber, the old yellow lettuce you get at the bottom of the head and 2 pieces of veg.

After I arrived at the hospital she was in tears from the pain and told me it has been 4 hours since her op and she still has not received any pain meds after asking several times. When I went to look for a nurse they were all standing around the counter chatting about their personal issues etc. I asked them to please giver her something and waited at the counter until one of them eventually got up to check her file and see what they can give her.

Cannot believe that they do not care about their patience and let them suffer like that!

Not a good experience at the Emergency department. It's not baby friendly and the room where the nurse took us was dirty. He didn't even look us in the eyes ones. Then we get to see the Dr and he looks at our baby and says" oh but she's chubby and smiley" checked her tummy for 5 seconds and nothing else. Gave us a script and off we go.

Olivedale hospital staff ought to be reported to the Health Professions Council of South Africa and the hospital should be put under administration by the department of health! My son was 3 days of age at the time we had to take him to the casualty ward due to a severe case of jaundice. I subsequently called in the wee hours of the morning to call and find out whether it is safe to do since covid has turned normality upside down. A few hours later upon arrival at the hospital at the casualty ward, my son was turned away with the nurse on duty telling us there is a 4-6 hour waiting period for patients to be seen within the ward! To my dismay, I failed to get the nurses name so I can report her! Since when did a new born wait 4-6 hours to receive medical attention on top the hours that i waited before actually taking baby to the hospital for covid clearance?!
My partner and I subsequently took him to Fourways Life hospital and the nurses did not bother asking any questions as they understand a baby's life is nothing to be played around with! Was immediately admitted to the trauma ward and received treatment immediately!
Absolutely disgusted by Olivedale Hospital!

Rather go to a public hospital. At least there you wont have to pay and still get bad treatment. Took a friend in through to emergency, had to wait over an hour and a half to see a doc. Long story short, they only admitted her in the morning, 8 hours later. This person was in pain, couldn't even walk. I was parked outside the doctors office, the man sat there laughing and playing around with the nurses with a full reception of sick people.

Very poor help at that ER, l went there due to a catbite on my hand which was extremely painfull, waited an hour and 15 minutes without getting anything for pain then did not even got treated correctly as only prescribed 1 Antibiotic- Augmentin but no Flagyl though the dr wanted to put up iv Antibiotics which l refused since she took an extremely long time to come and see me and meant that l'll be left there unattended for another long period with an iv on top of it. I did get Tet Tox imi and pain medication on prescription which was inadequate because Tramacet do not work for me but l was so upset l did not even look at the prescription, Kay the receptionist was also very rude and had a negative attitude. This was a bad experience for me and hope your ER improve rapidly. I also replied on the sms with my e-mail address for a copy of the account but up to now never received it.
