Good food. Amazing milkshakes. staff freindly and efficient.
I used to visit fairly regularly a few years ago when it was called Nelsons Diner and the food was great. After a visit today with a couple of buddies we aren t planning on returning. The food was still ok but the service was really poor and the building is quite decayed to the point we were cold. Two waitresses were circulating but didn t seem to coordinate so were asked a lot for our orders, were we ok, did we want more, did we want our bill, had we paid etc.
Since Nelsons opened in Newbury this diner has gone down hill. Plates and glasses left on tables vacated long ago just makes the place look uncared for. Milkshakes are still good.
Fabulous little place. Hearty delicious food, super friendly staff and oh so very American ambiance.
First time dining in here and was welcomed by staff who looked tired and it seemed they did not want to be there. Staff uniforms did not look tidy/clean which was unprofessional for people working in a diner, one would expect high standards of cleanliness, restaurant floors were dirty as well. To top it off although I was trying to enjoy my unseasoned burger I found hair in my food which really disgusted me to another level. No amount of apologies or taking my meal off the bill can redeem this appalling incident. High standards of cleanliness Professionalism Staff presentation really needs to be revisited and practiced in this diner.
absolutely fantastic service. the waitresses where amazing. especially engaging with my 2 year old. the food was delicious. thank you for a great dining experience.
Cool inside, food is quite average. I had a good time but once is enough.
Amazing Food! Quick Service and nice staff. However tables were a little sticky and the place seemed quite tired. Otherwise would recommend to anyone!
Fantastic burger and really good coffee in a great place. I will be going again.
Really nice food, great atmosphere & really friendly, helpful staff
Highly recommend
Low quality, hugely overpriced food, bad atmosphere and mediocre service. The waitress dropped our food, didn't ask if we wanted any sauce and then disappeared behind the counter.
The food was good, is not high cuisine but fits with an American dinner. The service was very good when I visited, with plenty of parking on site.
I had been to little nellies diner before a couple of years ago back when it was just the standalone nelsons diner and it was probably the best American diner I had been to. This time my experience overall was just ok. Still love the location and the theme inside. The milkshakes are still amazing and so is a lot of their food. However my burger was really dry and hard, and tasted like they simply overcooked the meat. Onion rings were a little tough too but the bacon, hash browns and chips were really good and as I said their milkshakes are fantastic. Also I was dissapointed with the service. I think there was only one waitress on duty and a lot of the time there was just nobody around to flag down to get another drink. Bearing in mind this was saturday lunch time when it was getting a little busy inside. It was an ok lunch but my last experience a couple of years ago was a lot better so I think the standards have dropped since.
Staff are rude and it takes ages for them to seat you even though the place is virtually empty.
A great little find, friendly service, a brilliant atmosphere and top notch grub. The fifties American diner theme took my dad right back to "his" era!
Good food large portions/serving sizes americian authentic to a certain degree miles better then the Newbury branch would recommend to friends and family.Only disadvantage is that quiet costly do not an weekly visit.
Saw this place on the way to basingstoke, stopped off on the way back... Best decision ever!
Milkshakes - thick and delicious
Burgers - Big and delicious (also you get unlimited tea or coffee with a burger which is a godsend!)
Cheesy fries - Cheesy and delicious (noticing a trend here?)
Service - Excellent
Price - extremely reasonable! Great value for money.
I could not recommend this place more highly...
I heard they were going to open one in the kennet centre... Looks like I may be eating a lot more Nelsons!
I stopped here on the way past to Newbury Races on the 15th Jan 2014 with my Mum on her birthday, who is a massive Elvis fan.
The food was without doubt was out of this world the most amazing tasty breakfast and cup of Joe I have ever had. The staff were great and the price was special. Could help but tip the American way :D due to the price. I couldn't speak more highly of this restaurant and I will be visiting again and again.
I am happy to say my Name is Mike Ray of Ace Trainers Ltd to confirm this review is that good.
What a lovely friendly place good food great coffee plus a brilliant ride to get there .
Fantastic restaurant, amazing food, amazing shakes, staff really friendly and prices are fine. Only downside is they need more parking, more tables (which is obviously good that they are so popular) and maybe a renovation soon... Other than that, perfect.!
We were not impressed, the standers of food has gone down compared to our last visit. they need to buck up!!!!
Great food at great prices. Accommodated 10 of us from work with preorders no problem. 50 flavours of milkshake pretty awesome too!
Lovely little American diner great food a really pleasant staff
So many fabulous choices for fantastic food. Which is served by friendly staff
Its nice and clean every friendly made to feel welcome
Great atmosphere and amazing food! So many milkshake flavours, I really struggled picking one!
Loved the visit here, staff were helpful, place was colourful and the food filled me up a treat.
Situated just outside newbury found this quaint little diner. Only stopped for coffee but place was clean and boasted a 5 star food hygene rating on entrance. With petrol station next door good place to pull in for a bite and fill up!!
The staff were great, had a lovely time, a little expensive.
Fantastic food every time I've been and wonderful service too
Authentic American dinner located on the a339 between Basingstoke and Newbury. Fantastic food, huge plate fulls and milkshakes to die for!
Fantastic service, great atmosphere & friendly, dillegent staff
Food was average at best, wanted to support a local business, rather than a large franchise, and paid the price, quite literally. The food was edible, but really no taste, and if it had been reasonable might have been forgiven.
Looks great, but you can look from the outside and spend your money some where else... Staff we miserable...and who has ever heard of filling in feedback forms and watch those that served open up and watch them read as you walk out the door...
Lovely little place we went for my daughter's birthday brunch. Which was very nice to come away feeling full & satisfied
Usually a person would take a picture before they start eating, but we couldn't wait. The atmosphere and food are both inspired by the American south west, both in flavor and size. I'd write more, but these ribs are more important.
good as always! Food and service very good. Just needs some Ale on the drinks menu and it'll be perfect
Food delicious and served by a very happy and helpful lady. Perfect for what we wanted and would definitely eat there again if in that area.
Great place been here a few times now and it's always good food and friendly helpful service
Excellent service, food good value but found the place itself chilly and draughfty
Just a great place to meet up for breakfasts. Love it.
Not clean at all ! More napkins and food on the floor then the plates . Had to change my fork and knife , u genuinely could see the ketchup dried on it :(. The lack of cleanliness put me off the food , sorry
Absolutely disgusting, waited half an hour in a quiet restaurant to be served, customer service is awful, waste of time and money, food was way to salty and wasn't as described, microwave food at it's best. Avoid at all costs
Fries were over cooked burgers were dry and tasteless hash browns were swimming in oil I mean there wee more of a sponge that a potato product . The best thing from here was the bottled beer. That being said the staff were nice but too many of them . My table had 3 servers and no one knew what the other was doing . And the manager got an arse and defencive when he asked how the meal was. Really over priced for the quality . If any one is in the norfolk area I strongly recommend Zaks diner
Nice, cheerful, independent American style diner. Food is okay, a bit greasy but big portions. Taste could be worked upon, doesn't remind me of the taste of the diners I have visited in America. Milkshakes are very good, big variety of choices, if a bit expensive
Parking can be limited, but staff are friendly and food is tasty, not not so great for one on a diet classic diner fare.
Great food and friendly staff. Just wish we would drive past more often.
Excellent service, very nice nice food. Friendly atmosphere.
Milkshake was really good. However the fried chicken dishes we had were over done resulting in them being dry. Chips and coleslaw were tasty. Staff were friendly albeit haphazard.
Ok but prices are crazy. Cheaper to fly to America and buy a coke there.
Ok atmosphere. Poor service. Terrible fries, they were soggy, cold and disgusting. Burger meat was cheap and gross, calling it 'meat' is generous! Milkshakes were tiny and made from syrups. I won't be going again. Very disappointed.
Great price, great food, generous portions. Burgers, hotdogs, milkshakes, all sorts of fries (chips) and nachos all brilliant.
Foods good but overpriced I feel you pay for the experience rather than food
My second visit to this diner and regret it big time! I had ordered Ribs & Steak while the Mrs had ordered Ribs & Fried chicken. While waiting for the order, I noticed the chef place the 2 Ribs into the microwave to be heated up while the Steak was not fresh and taken from a plastic wrapper from the Fridge. This put us off completely. If we needed microwaved food, we would have stayed home rather than spend a premium on not so fresh food. The steak was rubbery dry as was the chicken. Will never return here.
Drove by on our way to Basingstoke, Surreal experience, A 50's diner in the middle of nowhere. Great atmosphere and staff, good burgers, fries and shakes. I agree it is overpriced compared to the quality of 5 Guys, but still worth the visit..
This diner was recommended after a family day out and this may honestly be the most overpriced place I have ever visited.
The service was beyond slow and when we asked for 2 minutes the waitress didn t come back for 25.
When the order came out it was incorrect and the menu states the ribs are more than enough, these were tiny.
We ran out of drinks at least twice and yet no service was offered for a refill.
The burgers looked good but not worth the wait.
Trying to take the kids to the toilet. Toilet roll had been wee d on.
Pancakes with maple syrup and coffee for afternoon tea, love this place, never leave hungry that's for sure. Thanks guys
Very nice breakfast but difficult to get put onto the road
Great pit-stop for cruises or bike rides, fabulous double bacon sandwiches and milkshake. Good coffee, nice friendly staff. American style diner.
It's kinda cute. Quite small and could do with a lick of paint but the food and shakes are excellent with bigger portions than expected.
We absolutely love eating at Nellie's every time we go to Newbury or our trips that way. Proper American style burger joint milkshakes to die for and a wide range of burgers, salads, chips and food for vegetarians too.
nice staff tables not very clean and glasses marked cutlery was also dirty
Amazing food, huge portion, nice staff , highly recommend
