I used to visit fairly regularly a few years ago when it was called Nelsons Diner and the food was great. After a visit today with a couple of buddies we aren t planning on returning. The food was still ok but the service was really poor and the building is quite decayed to the point we were cold. Two waitresses were circulating but didn t seem to coordinate so were asked a lot for our orders, were we ok, did we want more, did we want our bill, had we paid etc.

First time dining in here and was welcomed by staff who looked tired and it seemed they did not want to be there. Staff uniforms did not look tidy/clean which was unprofessional for people working in a diner, one would expect high standards of cleanliness, restaurant floors were dirty as well. To top it off although I was trying to enjoy my unseasoned burger I found hair in my food which really disgusted me to another level. No amount of apologies or taking my meal off the bill can redeem this appalling incident. High standards of cleanliness Professionalism Staff presentation really needs to be revisited and practiced in this diner.

I had been to little nellies diner before a couple of years ago back when it was just the standalone nelsons diner and it was probably the best American diner I had been to. This time my experience overall was just ok. Still love the location and the theme inside. The milkshakes are still amazing and so is a lot of their food. However my burger was really dry and hard, and tasted like they simply overcooked the meat. Onion rings were a little tough too but the bacon, hash browns and chips were really good and as I said their milkshakes are fantastic. Also I was dissapointed with the service. I think there was only one waitress on duty and a lot of the time there was just nobody around to flag down to get another drink. Bearing in mind this was saturday lunch time when it was getting a little busy inside. It was an ok lunch but my last experience a couple of years ago was a lot better so I think the standards have dropped since.

Saw this place on the way to basingstoke, stopped off on the way back... Best decision ever! Milkshakes - thick and delicious Burgers - Big and delicious (also you get unlimited tea or coffee with a burger which is a godsend!) Cheesy fries - Cheesy and delicious (noticing a trend here?) Service - Excellent Price - extremely reasonable! Great value for money. I could not recommend this place more highly... I heard they were going to open one in the kennet centre... Looks like I may be eating a lot more Nelsons!

I stopped here on the way past to Newbury Races on the 15th Jan 2014 with my Mum on her birthday, who is a massive Elvis fan. The food was without doubt was out of this world the most amazing tasty breakfast and cup of Joe I have ever had. The staff were great and the price was special. Could help but tip the American way :D due to the price. I couldn't speak more highly of this restaurant and I will be visiting again and again. I am happy to say my Name is Mike Ray of Ace Trainers Ltd to confirm this review is that good.

Fantastic restaurant, amazing food, amazing shakes, staff really friendly and prices are fine. Only downside is they need more parking, more tables (which is obviously good that they are so popular) and maybe a renovation soon... Other than that, perfect.!

Situated just outside newbury found this quaint little diner. Only stopped for coffee but place was clean and boasted a 5 star food hygene rating on entrance. With petrol station next door good place to pull in for a bite and fill up!!

Food was average at best, wanted to support a local business, rather than a large franchise, and paid the price, quite literally. The food was edible, but really no taste, and if it had been reasonable might have been forgiven. Looks great, but you can look from the outside and spend your money some where else... Staff we miserable...and who has ever heard of filling in feedback forms and watch those that served open up and watch them read as you walk out the door...

Usually a person would take a picture before they start eating, but we couldn't wait. The atmosphere and food are both inspired by the American south west, both in flavor and size. I'd write more, but these ribs are more important.

Not clean at all ! More napkins and food on the floor then the plates . Had to change my fork and knife , u genuinely could see the ketchup dried on it :(. The lack of cleanliness put me off the food , sorry

Absolutely disgusting, waited half an hour in a quiet restaurant to be served, customer service is awful, waste of time and money, food was way to salty and wasn't as described, microwave food at it's best. Avoid at all costs

Fries were over cooked burgers were dry and tasteless hash browns were swimming in oil I mean there wee more of a sponge that a potato product . The best thing from here was the bottled beer. That being said the staff were nice but too many of them . My table had 3 servers and no one knew what the other was doing . And the manager got an arse and defencive when he asked how the meal was. Really over priced for the quality . If any one is in the norfolk area I strongly recommend Zaks diner

Nice, cheerful, independent American style diner. Food is okay, a bit greasy but big portions. Taste could be worked upon, doesn't remind me of the taste of the diners I have visited in America. Milkshakes are very good, big variety of choices, if a bit expensive

Ok atmosphere. Poor service. Terrible fries, they were soggy, cold and disgusting. Burger meat was cheap and gross, calling it 'meat' is generous! Milkshakes were tiny and made from syrups. I won't be going again. Very disappointed.

My second visit to this diner and regret it big time! I had ordered Ribs & Steak while the Mrs had ordered Ribs & Fried chicken. While waiting for the order, I noticed the chef place the 2 Ribs into the microwave to be heated up while the Steak was not fresh and taken from a plastic wrapper from the Fridge. This put us off completely. If we needed microwaved food, we would have stayed home rather than spend a premium on not so fresh food. The steak was rubbery dry as was the chicken. Will never return here.

Drove by on our way to Basingstoke, Surreal experience, A 50's diner in the middle of nowhere. Great atmosphere and staff, good burgers, fries and shakes. I agree it is overpriced compared to the quality of 5 Guys, but still worth the visit..

This diner was recommended after a family day out and this may honestly be the most overpriced place I have ever visited. The service was beyond slow and when we asked for 2 minutes the waitress didn t come back for 25. When the order came out it was incorrect and the menu states the ribs are more than enough, these were tiny. We ran out of drinks at least twice and yet no service was offered for a refill. The burgers looked good but not worth the wait. Trying to take the kids to the toilet. Toilet roll had been wee d on.

We absolutely love eating at Nellie's every time we go to Newbury or our trips that way. Proper American style burger joint milkshakes to die for and a wide range of burgers, salads, chips and food for vegetarians too.
