Jim and Alan have always been great. They put in the time, they explain everything, and they don't run off at 5 o'clock. They are conscientious, and once, after talking to me in the middle of the night, Alan re-thought something, called me back, and came to our house at 1:30 AM. Jim, when trying to find a mystery problem, stayed hours beyond what any other person would have done. They treat you like a neighbor who needs help.

Aside from being right on time, Jim G really attacked my problem...which proved to be really complex. Jim ran through every scenario and kept me informed on everything he was doing, why he was doing and what he hoped the outcome would be. I could not have been more pleased with the service and i'm happy to once again be sleeping in an air conditioned house.
As ever Needham Oil & Air responded promptly to my Saturday call regarding water on the floor around our heater unit. Two weeks earlier I had called to report the problem and needed to be away when the tech arrived to check. He diagnosed a failed expansion tank; ours was finishing its seventh year. He replaced it while I was out. Had I received that tech's card I'd have filled out a happy review of his service.
Two weeks or so later I noticed far less water still dripping from the unit. I called a second time and Jim arrived less than 12 hours later. He diagnosed a poor seat in the expansion valve and explained that such things can happen after a repair as the new tank's bladder expands and contracts a few times. Lest anyone think that the first tech tech should have caught this problem, I suspect that the drip did not show up while he was there. I don't live in such a perfect world and I knew he had squeezed the job in on his busy weekend of on call work.
Back to Jim, on his arrival he saw me running a saw in my basement and taught me that the intake unit on our heater ought to be shut off at such times or it would suck in the sawdust. My son works often at our workbench and creates a lot of dust, so I was happy to learn of this problem. When Jim heard that report, he recommended that I install a fresh air intake line and quickly showed me how to do it. I intend to accomplish that task within the week. Then he solved the leak problem. Throughout he was gracious and efficient.

I called the company just after they opened on a Friday as neither separate zone was being cooled. I had recently changed over to new Nest thermostats, and suspected that somehow I had wiring wrong. The serviceman Jim arrived very quickly, and was efficient and professional. He used booties over his footwear when in the house. He identified the issue right away and made the necessary adjustment. He also took the time to point out general useful information on maintenance factors. I suppose there is probably a Utube video I could have checked or tried calling Nest technical support, but if you prefer to have it done by a professional then you cannot beat the timeliness and customer service of Jim from Needham Oil & Air in Needham.
Jeff and Mike showed up on time to replace our steam boiler. They were very polite and knowledgeable, including explaining the differences in the new boiler versus the old. Al the technician from Needham Oil was determined to diagnose and solve a very complicated electronic malfunction which prevented our Lenox AC from functioning. After numerous troubleshooting resets he was able to get the system working as before. We are extremely grateful for Al s persistence And conscientious effort to resolve the issues. We used Needham Oil and Gas to replace an outdated oil heating system with a natural gas furnace last Winter. The technician came in an installed the system pretty much by himself since the second technician bumped his head and had to go home. Thus, the entire installation was rushed. They did not connect the AC system and we had to call them back. They connected the AC back to the system but was not done properly and later found out that the AC was leaking but they refuse to fix the issue they had caused. Now we also found that one of the pipes they installed is leaking. What an awful service experience. Will never used them again.

Every time I have called I have felt like I was talking to a friend not an employee. They are always accommodating to my requests. Our AC was not working. I called Needham Oil this morning and they had Jim come over at 1pm this afternoon. Jim was very nice and very efficient. He fixed the problem quickly and then took the extra time to make sure everything was working properly with the unit.
Needham oil & air replaced our oil tank and furnace this year and replaced our other AC unit just recently. Whenever we have had a problem they always get someone out to us whether it happens at 10am or 3am.

Needham Oil replaced our oil boiler with propane boiler. The experience has and continues to be awful.
Installation: 2-3 day job turned into 6 days without heat and hot water because of their incompetence. On the day of plumbing inspection their plumber was late (!) and the inspection had to be rescheduled to later in the day.
After propane was connected and the boiler started up I asked them to come back and adjust the boiler according to the manual's start up procedure. They still refuse to do it (it's December 3rd).
They still haven't arranged the electrical and final inspections with the town. It's been more than a month since install.
We ran out of propane well ahead of scheduled delivery because of inefficient operation of the boiler.
The boiler makes unusually loud noise from time to time that even our neighbors can hear. I reported it, finally 2 technicians came but 1. they weren't propane boiler specialists and 2. they didn't have the access code for the boiler control panel. They left without adjusting/fixing anything.
The carbon monoxide alarm above the boiler went off yesterday around 7pm. I shut off the boiler and called Needham Oil stating the problem. A technician who deals with oil burning systems (!) showed up and left. It's 9am and Needham Oil still hasn't bothered to send somebody. Thankfully the night was relatively warm and we don't have water pipes bursting all over the place. We would have if it was January.
Through out the process Needham Oil demonstrated incompetence, unwillingness to follow appliance manual instructions and manufacturer's guidelines, little regard to customers' safety and concerns.
I would not recommend this company.
I've been using the Needham Oil team over the last year for both delivery of oil and boiler maintenance as well having them do a major A/C installation. I can't say enough good things. First off their customer service is second to no one based on my experience with other local providers. They are extremely prompt and responsive, for example we had an issue with our boiler on a very cold day and they had a service technician come within an hour to assess and correctly fix. Additionally we utilized them to do a two floor A/C install last spring which consisted of both traditional ducts for the second floor/attic and mini-split units on the first floor. Randy did a great job coordinating/managing the project and Chris and Jeff did a tremendous job executing the actual installation. You can tell they took pride in their work and respected their customers as they were very polite, meticulous, clean, and thorough. It's comforting to have found a team/company like Needham Oil to be able to rely on for years to come.

Want to say how much I appreciate the detail shown by Jim during his annual A/C service call. In past years he's caught things that could easily have been missed. This includes a small leak in evaporator that was just inside the warranty period. Also, this year he replaced some rubber bushings that returned our compressor to it's previously quiet operation. Jim and the folks at Needham Oil Complete Heating and Cooling, who did our central air install 10 years ago, have been great. And we've enjoyed a decade of hassle free cooling.

Jim found there is fan motor issue last week and he ordered new one to replace it. Rick replaced fan motor and fixed old wires today as well as let me know how to maintain A/C unit during winter time and to keep clean around A/C unit. He did wonderful job today and we enjoy A/C again! Great team to work with!
I had ductless air conditioning put in last Thursday. Scott was one of the technicians. I could not be happier with the experience. They were very professional. They answered all questions and worked quickly. The entire system was up and running before dinner. I have always said that I love a man who vacuums - well I got two of them. They cleaned as they went along. You wouldn't even know that they had been here, except for the cool air in the three rooms. I would highly recommended Needham Oil and Air and their technicians to anyone interested in putting in a system.
