This gallery has lots of really beautiful art, I could easily spend a day in here with the amazing atmosphere. I really liked the varied styles and time periods of the art, as well as being able to see some famous pieces in person. There are some great restaurants around, so it's ideal for longer visits.
absolutely loved my time here, an array of amazing portraits by an assortment of different artists, talent beyond belief, visiting here really makes you appreciate the time and effort spent in creating these different paintings and sculptures, breathtaking
Very interesting Mostly to do with English royalty in history
Free entry.
Ppasak many minutes you are interested in British history, I enjoy a good place. People just do not know celebrities Sanaa queen attire of kings, fun viewing angles, facial expression change?
Medium size museum, but the visit went quicker than I expected. Good variety of work on display. I would recommend a visit.
Portraits. If you like portraits you will like this place. Lots of portraits - bad idea if you don t like portraits. Portraits.
The free art classes on Friday evening's are AMAZING
You can see outstanding portraits of famous people here from any areas literally ~
A great gallery with constant effort on new themes to attract visitors
Brilliant gallery. Great special exhibition on Cindy Sherman
I wandered in on a Friday night and it turned out to be one of my best art museum experiences ever
You need at least half a day. The Michael Jackson exhbitiion was good.
Fantastic range of historical figures painted and excellent quality. Also free entry
This is my go to place for a solo escape for a few hours
Informative and exciting exhibitions with plenty of portraits to see! I unfortunately didn't feel well so I had to leave, but I thoroughly enjoyed my short visit and will be sure to check it out in more detail later :) made history exciting for me!
Really enjoyed the Pre Raphaelite Sisters exhibition
An all time favorite that endures the tests of time. Always a great visit when in London
There is better .. Not a lot of known portrait ..
Some interesting things to see ..
We are so lucky that we have all these free museums and galleries in London. There is something for everyone from ancient portraits to more contemporary people. I took my son there some years ago when he wanted to study photography and said he was inspired by it.
Excellent place to visit paintings, statues, photography. My favourite the portraits about famous and interesting people. Easily can spend a few hours here just wondering and soaking up the special vibe comes from this place. There is a little cafe if you wish to drink a cup of coffee.
Depictions of the human form is always fascinating. The NPG displays mostly the famous in paintings and sculptures over 6 centuries. Connecting to people over the ages can take the better part of the day. A must go because it will be out of commission for 3 years.
The BP portrait award 2018 exhibition at the national portrait gallery is outstanding. 48 pictures out of thousands of submissions are on show. Many styles are represented, however photorealism seems to have carried the most weight with the judges. Many are astonishing for their beauty and for what they capture and communicate about the subjects. It's free and runs till September 23 so don't miss it!
The best carrot cake ever! Plus some pretty good art. ...
Our first visit. Free and some amazing art work to see. A must visit.
Excellent art gallery that gives a cross section of British society through the ages, somehow less crowded than the BM or the NG and it's also free.
It is a must see beautiful portraits. Don't tocuh the paintings I did that by accident trying to believe it's not a digital copy and the actual portrait. Don't be me. It's the actual paintings!!! Truly amazing
The Michael Jackson "on the wall" exhibition was very interesting, especially as a fan of Michael! The prices for the museum are also very reasonable, especially for people under 25 ; only 5
If you're into memes, you'll have a great time creating new ones there. This place is full of potentials.
Drop in and draw every Fridays free of charge was a lovely experience!
One of the greatest places to visit in London. They have a good rotation of exhibitions so even if you're a Londoner there's something nice to see every few months.
Had a great day here. Lots of street performers. Lots going on.
Excellent museum to know and understand more about great characters in history, especially from England!
Always good for a visit. The special exhibitions (that you have to pay for) are interesting but there's so much to see here for free. And a cloakroom and a cafe as well as the inevitable shops.
Absolutely beautiful, mind boggling how these artists painted these amazing pieces of work. I love art, Im a Graphic Designer by trade, and then pieces are just inspirational. Love it, so moving. Great for anyone, any age. They have different exhibitions on and most of the museum is free. Perfect for a day out. Centrally located at Trafalgar square.
Always an interesting place to drop in - permanent exhibitions are a pure pleasure, along with some great side shows (although I always find the BP Portrait Awards disappointing, but don't let that put you off!)
Excellent display of paintings and statues of bygone era. A must visit walking distance from soho and National gallery
Love I only visited because I was meeting some friends and they were running very late. I stepped and and lost myself in the art. I enjoyed it so much that I ended up being late meeting my friends!
There are a number of floors representing different eras plus a cafe for refreshments.
Only downside is that they need a clear guide to walk otherwise you end up missing rooms.
The Pre-Raphaelite Sisters Exhibition. This is a wonderful event, describing the birth of the Pre-Raphaelite movement and the principal women involved. Quite beautiful paintings and great value for money. I'm sad however. From June 2020, the gallery closes for a THREE YEAR refit. Be kind to the staff. They'll be unemployed.
A large art museum displaying works from world-famous artists Most of the art pieces are masterpieces of all ages. All art forms Both the classic era like the Renaissance Impressionist art Post Impressionist Art
Always something, or someone, interesting to look at on the walls. The Tudor galleries are brilliant.
Always enjoy seeing the BP portrait exhibition. Beautiful building, interesting exhibitions.
Beautiful art filled space with a huge diversity of styles to inspire and broaden outlooks.
Very nice museum, the idea of traveling through English history through portraits is excellent
Only people 's paintings. And I get tired of it on the way
The National Portrait Gallery (NPG) is an art gallery in London housing a collection of portraits of historically important and famous British people. It was the first portrait gallery in the world when it opened in 1856. The gallery moved in 1896 to its current site at St Martin's Place, off Trafalgar Square, and adjoining the National Gallery. It has been expanded twice since then. The National Portrait Gallery also has regional outposts at Beningbrough Hall in Yorkshire and Montacute House in Somerset. It is unconnected to the Scottish National Portrait Gallery in Edinburgh, with which its remit overlaps. The gallery is a non-departmental public body sponsored by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport.
Great paintings, great artists, presented well with excellent descriptions!
Enjoyed the BP portrait of the year exhibition, it was very warm and very busy, not sure that there is air con?
The shop has some great gifts, just a shame that they don't do postcards of all the featured entries.
Whilst security and bag checks are understandable, depending on what entrance you use, you could end up having your bag searched twice in under 5 minutes in order to access the main space.
A wonderful museum heralding portraits of Great Britain s past and present. Kings, queens, prime ministers and cabinet members are well represented as well as special exhibit of nationally acclaimed portraits. Also there are several seasonal gallery areas worth visiting. I tried to show in my photos, a sampling of the wonderful portraits in this exquisite gallery. It is well worth a visit. Plan on at least 2 hours to really do the gallery justice. It is free.
Paintings over 400 years old on display and all for free. Amazing place. Only in London.
