Good collection of historical portraits from the 15th century on. Some special exhibitions are worth seeing though I don't usually see the photography exhibitions. Located to the side of the National Gallery.

Great Museum, I found there many renaissance pinting, like the battle of San Romano of Paolo Uccello. That is dividend in 3 parts one here the other in the Uffizi Gallery in Florence, the last in Louvre in Paris.

Gallery holds popular exhibitions. Spend as little as an hour and art lovers will be happy. Cafe offers good range of snacks. Shop also sells interesting range of goods relating to their exhibitions. S Jones

Free (recommended donation). I would like to recommend it after the major museums in London. A portrait-intensive exhibition will surely captivate many people. However, you may get a little drunk because they are lined up in a small room. The central passage where the plaster statues are aligned is very impressive.

The focus is on royal and merit portraits. Paintings that have been seen in textbooks are on display. There are portraits of Queen Victoria, Elizabeth I, Henry VII, Henry VIII, Queen Elizabeth, Shakespeare, Darwin, Newton, Watt, Cromwell, as well as pictures of the powerful Parliament satired by Banksy, and portraits of the Army of the World War. . The latest portraits are also on display.

It seems that a free sketch event will be held on the weekend.

Photography video shooting is allowed.

Of course, you have to love the art of portraiture ... Otherwise, it becomes quickly boring. But if we consider that the art of portraiture was the culmination of the art of painting, then this place is a kind of absolute paradise.
Portraits, only portraits. From different times.
As the museum is classified by era and for each portrait there is an explanation of WHO was the person, this museum is also a wonderful history course of the United Kingdom.
To visit absolutely.

I thoroughly enjoyed my time here on a warm, sunny, London afternoon. It was refreshing to enter into a free museum for a cheap traveler looking for culture. The outside of the museum, walking through Trafalgar Square, is an amazing experience on it's own. Inside the gallery, you will find so many amazing pieces of art. My favourite is the guy holding the piece of paper like he just got charged 2k to fix his car.

I very much enjoyed visiting the National Portrait Gallery recently. It has a superb collection of portraits from various periods. One of my personal highlights was Kate Middleton's beautiful portrait, displayed in its pride of place on the ground floor. A must-see!

We had a fantastic time here, doing the Families trail, investigating some of the people in lesser known portraits! We did some lovely drawing - each inventing a fruit! - and got to see some of the incredible artworks on display here!

We have been to the National Portrait Gallery before, but the latest visit was to see the Michael Jackson: On The Wall exhibition. Thoroughly enjoyable, we were there for around 2 hours. It wasn't packed with people which meant we could see and read everything clearly. We had a drink in the cafe too, which was reasonably priced.

Amazing collection of portraits, you can navigate through the building and the different floors with Google maps, some of the larger painting have a console next to them that let's you discover more about the artwork.

This gallery is just what it says it is: a gallery of portraits and what a wonderful collection it is! Formal, informal, funny and just a bit weird all styles are represented. There is just so much to see, and because of that it is very easy to become overwhelmed. All pictures are well displayed and the rooms are sympathetically lit. Unless you are on a real mission I would suggest dipping in and out of this gallery, perhaps spend an hour or two at the most then come back another day to see more.
This visit there was the BP portrait exhibition showcasing more contemporary works and like the gallery itself it was free to enter. This is a great way to spend a couple of hours. However, I would say it's not really the place for young children.

It has a high style and a rich historical atmosphere. There are some well-known celebrity portraits, but most don't know. Located on the northeast side of Trafalgar Square, on the east side of the National Gallery.
