Being fully honest, I expected a bit more from the nation's fine Arts museum, specially considering the fares charged (and parking too, although being downtown I'll give the National Gallery a pass on this). I visited the Gauguin exposition and it didn't even have some of his most known work, like the Yellow Christ - that's not to say it was bad, but as I said, I expected more of the museum. Maybe I'm just biased by other museums I've visited... But don't get me wrong, it's not quite a bad museum, at the end.

I love

The National Gallery of Canada is considered by Art experts around the world to be in the top 10 museums. A must see. Great Art in a spectacular setting. Canadians can be rightly proud of such a wonderful museum, it is a National Treasure.

A museum worth seeing as one of Canada's leading buildings. The level of all the collections is the highest in the world. From indigenous art to 18th-century Canadian religious paintings, impressionists such as Degas and Monet, American modern art, contemporary works, and church architecture, I enjoyed my heart and filled my heart. When I hear the sound of water in the courtyard, my heart calms down.

If you are hungry, go to the cafeteria on the 1st floor. Broccoli and goat cheese soup, curry flavored noodles were delicious! The 7 Tapas Bar in the Great Hall offers a variety of delicious wines and picturesque dishes. It s so popular that you should make a reservation.

In the museum shop, accessories are cheap and abundant. There are many unique items. There are many bronze statues and works of art around the museum, and the huge Maman in the center of the square is a statue of a mother spider holding 26 eggs. Maman is a series of works by French sculptor Louise Bourgeois, and there are a total of 9 works around the world, including the Mori Art Museum in Tokyo.

Simply an amazing building, not to miss if you're touring Ottawa or are a resident, constant change in collections so you can revisit, architecture is unparalleled and can be views from far. Many washrooms, a cafeteria and a gift shop as services. Surrounding area is just as great as the gallery itself. Be sure not to miss the art pieces that surround the gallery.

I went on a rainy day, and the atmosphere was nice and pleasant, and I was very much interested in Canadian history, which helped me to understand Canada.
I remember remembering that the entrance fee was $ 15.

The go to place for Canada s national Art Collection. It includes a wonderful recreation of a chapel which was painstakingly brought into the gallery piece by piece and reassembled. The Art collection generally is quite well displayed and the Canadian section is particularly well curated. Be sure to go off the sides of the main walking track there are some gems about.

Nice place to visit for people having interest in art. Beautiful paintings of some very famous artists. We went on victoria day weekend and the entry cost was free for that day. Loved the place and art.

A cheap yet fun experience. Within the National Gallery of Canada there were many works of art which portrayed history, religion, and culture. All the works of art have a little plaque explaining the work, but I believe that these should include more explanation as to what the work of art is trying to showcase. Some of the plaques just talked about how the artist created the art, and I was confused as to what the art meant. The gallery is built beautifully with the architecture being its own piece of art.

From start to finish, this place was a Sunday well spent. We went with my aunt who has only been to Ottawa once. The cafeteria had a nice variety of foods for all diets. Great vegetarian options and reasonably priced. Now, this is all coming from someone who has never really been an art fan.. The photographs from throughout Canadian history were just fascinating... you could easily spend 10 minutes on each one.. The inuit art was breathtakingly haunting, the international section had some incredibly historic works and boasted such famous artists as Monet and Van Gogh.. the gift boutique had some very unique and interesting items but was a little on the expensive side i found.. we got there with only 3 hours to go before closing so next time, i would allot myself at least 6 hours...

Always impressive architecture, paired with some interesting exhibits and a wonderful permanent collection. I think it's fantastic that its free on Thursday nights, and does a great job representing some of the best Ottawa and Canada have to offer in art.

Great collection housed in an architectural gem. I come here again and again to revisit my favourite works by Rembrandt, Klimt, and Monet, but there's always something new that catches my eye. Be sure to check out the free Thursday nights and the monthly Creative Thursdays, where you can drop in and try your hand at a new artistic skill, all materials provided.

Always a pleasure! Also, so considerate to keep spare walkers etc. It makes the visit so hassle free. Thank you!!!

The tapas bar after the Paul Klee exhibit was a perfect way of ending an enjoyable Sunday afternoon.

Go after 5 on a Thursday and you get in free! I checked out their temporary Canadian Photography exhibit and really enjoyed it. I also walked around and looked at some of the more traditional paintings and also some contemporary sculptures. The gift shop was full of interesting stuff too, and I spent about half an hour in there alone. The park space behind the gallery is also incredible, especially at sunset. Check out the streetlight sculpture and the lightning bolt sculpture if you have the time - very cool.

Interesting museum, full of Canadian works, but also of famous artists such as Braque, Daumier, pollock, Monet, Van Gogh and many others. Really unmissable. You can also enjoy a beautiful view from the terrace of the cafeteria.

Great collection of Canadian and international art. It's a great place to spend a day and there are so many spaces inside the gallery that are absolutely gorgeous. Don't miss the fountain area and the chapel.

It's a huge gallery. Can spend multiple hours here as long as you don't have kids who will get tired. You can browse exhibits, paintings, or even photography. Would go again.

My biggest complaint is how easy it is to get lost in here, but I guess that's OK in a location like this.

I love going to galleries, and I found some of the paintings in NGC nice. But when I pointed an interesting detail of the painting to my friend s attention, the guard immediately came and said, please do not touch. But I DID NOT touch! I was far from touching and I won t touch the painting either. If they don t like people stand close or look closely to the painting they can just put it into glass or set up something to keep people away. Then the guard followed me, and again when I was talking to my friend about the lining of the painting was pretty, he came and said, don t touch it. I was like, NO I did not. Then he said, okay I believe you but if you touch it I can report to the centre and get the video. I responded go ahead I am more than happy to check the video to see whether I have touched it or not. And he said okay I believe you, which made no sense because if he did see me touching, he won t say he believe me. I left the gallery after this because I was no longer in the mood of enjoying. Very disappointing.

Right now the front enterance is under construction so it is a little bit confusing to get around. I went to study in the open area by the little bistro they have set up before the gallery itself. It's free to stay and study there if you aren't going into see the art but you must go to the ticket desk and ask for a food/cafeteria pass in order to get past security into the sitting area. Also, you won't be able to take your bags in with you. The little bistro is more for wine and dine than coffee. The one down side is that the view is so beautiful looking out to the parliament buildings and the canal that it's hard to study at points!

Nice
