A world class gallery, with a fascinating array of paintings, sculptures and other treasures.
The portraits of Paul Gauguin are the principal special exhibition now, and the works give an intimate look into the mind of this great artist. His relationship with other artists of all sorts is explored and we see how he created through his dialogues with them.
An interesting exhibit of Dave Heath's photographs leads us into his vision of the world around him, and we see, in the faces of amazingly ordinary people, a beauty, a pathos, a sense of belonging and separation, all at once.
Another exhibit leads us into the fractured mind and soul of Nietzsche. We see his friends and supporters, how they fell under his spell, and how they championed him and his ideas when he no longer could.
The Gauguin and Nietzsche exhibits form a curious parallel of the subjects' emotional power to influence and their ultimate failures.
Look at these wonderful exhibits, but remember to take in the glories of the rest of the gallery too!
