Such a beautiful collection! From furniture to stained glass to Van Gogh, you really can't go wrong. Staff is friendly and helpful if you're looking for something specific. Wonderful gift shop!

I was so excited when I saw my favourite impressionists paintings in the gallery. They have a huge volume for various artists. The structure is somewhat easy to manage and it's easy to navigate room to room with well categorized themed paintings. You could maybe miss a small room or two. The open statue restoration is an awesome feature to allow people to see. The building is also beautiful.

One of the great museums in the world! The Raphael room alone would ensure that, but there are masterpieces in every section of the museum. Also check out the gallery talks by the excellent education and research staffs, as well as lectures by visiting scholars. Even the building is wonderful, from the Pantheon-like entrance with the Giovanni da Bologna Mercury fountain to the cafeteria and the museum store. I visit as often as I can.

Amazing collection for free!!! Classical or modern, all kinds for all tastes. Maybe check ahead before your "must see" so you don't get lost, website super useful to know if one piece is "on view" and in which room. Could have spend days there...

Outstanding! I love that this exists. The fact that you can see some of the great classic artists' works up close just blows my mind. And the building itself it like a work of art.

Wonderful everything about it. I learned a lot and experienced the finest works of art seen only in books and its a completely different experience. The guards are very helpful and polite.

Must see! Favorite! It was a gorgeous day! Walked through the garden to see the unique sculptures throughout the nicely landscaped garden. Also walked around the huge fountain that attracted many to sit around it. In the winter they freeze it over for ice skating!
We stopped for lunch at the cafe on the premises. The chicken salad on croissant was delicious! Highly recommend!

Wonderful museum and the permanent collection is stunning. West is larger and contains the older works and East is modern. In the modern, don't forget to go to the towers and see the outside sculpture pieces and the Calder exhibit inside. One note on the East also...the Matisse cutouts close at 2pm for the preservation of the paper (I missed them because I went there last .) They have 4 Vermeers in the West museum, but two were out on loan during my visit.

Quick security - check through bag. Love the display on American art in the 1900s. Wonderful classic pieces from Whistler, Stieglitz and other greats. One complaint is that there were people being very loud and obnoxious, and ushers could have done more to keep people in line.

This is a very interesting place with a lot of recognizable artwork from a variety of different countries and I would definitely recommend it for anyone who likes to see a variety of paintings but also including sculptures.

They also have a selection of food places.

There are so many paintings and statues. It is recommended to spend a full day to eat and see.
It is essential to inspect the bag when entering. After inspecting the bag, it is only possible to carry the bag on one shoulder or one hand. He said that he couldn't do it right away with both shoulders on the bag.
It is a really worth seeing place.

However, children are a little scared and have a hard time in a very quiet atmosphere.

Go during low times so you can avoid the gawkers that take pictures of the pictures. Sit and enjoy. There might only be 2 or 3 art museums that are better in the world, and good luck finding a quiet time in the Louvre.

Some of the greatest art in the USA. I think that there is only one Day Vinci in our country and it is there. Plan on spending time because the museum is full of important and famous art. And, don't miss the East Wing. Magnificent!

You can spend all day here and come back there is so much to see. You will need to take a nourishment break. The cafeteria is pretty good food, wide selection, and really reasonable prices. The coat and bag check is free. We were leaving that day and had a duffle bag and 2 backpacks and they were checked without a problem. If you only have one chance to come here you may want to start with the modern art and then see the rest of the art if only because if you start the opposite way you will be too tired to stay around for the modern art. On the other hand if you don't care about modern art, go ahead and start in the other wing.

Awe inspiring collection of art. We didn't get a chance to discover the whole museum, as you could get caught up admiring a painting here, or historical furniture piece there. This is a place to visit on a regular basis, to take in all that it offers, but even seeing it once will leave you with new appreciation for humanity's past. I understand that the displays do change every so often which is another reason to come back. Free admission for a walk through history.

An amazing place to explore more classical art and sculptures. Also a great place for a giggle with Snapchat filters, not gonna lie.

Entrance is free which is absolutely spectacular, and you're allowed to take photographs (though tripods are not allowed). Also, you can occasionally see artists recreating some of the incredible works on display. Whether these artists are commissioned by the gallery or if anyone can just come in, I am not sure.

One of my favorite Smithsonian branches ... especially the East Building where the modern and contemporary galleries are. Always have amazing works and artists. There's usually works by amazing artists of color!!! It's seems sparse upon entry but there's way more than meets the eye upon first sight. Make sure to check out the permanent collection in the basement as you crossover to the West/Main building....which you absolutely must do!!! ...the light installation in this pass through is worth seeing and worth every step!!!
