Our first but definitely not last visit. We had a great time. It is refreshing to see real art with incredible depth and beauty. Since visiting, we built our first easel. We both had favorite paintings and we discussed why we liked the pieces. We look forward to future visits.
The museum is truly worth a visit. A large collection of classical paintings and impressionists!
Its very inspiring and you could spend a whole day there
One of the world's great art galleries. An amazingly big and diverse collection of wonderful items.
For an Italian visitor like me who visits the first this huge museum can not but be astonished and amazed by the collection of Italian works there ...
Loved it there! Good Art work, nice exhibition of the Dutch paintings at the time of my visit. Not as many visitors as I thought, rather quiet but enjoyed it.
Takes some time to find a parking spot, also bring some more time with you to see the other museums close to this one.
I finally got to see a Rothko, Dubuffet, Warhol, Rembrandt, Degas, Pollock, Twombly, O'Keefe, and Dahli painting/sculpture. I went on a lark; and I had a great time. The galleries aren't as Grand as some of the others I've been to, but I think for the price of $0, and it being only there buildings, it's really unrivaled. I had one of the best days ever just walking around listening to music, if you're even peripherally into art, I suggest you go.
Gigantic museum with two wings, the east wing is all modern art, it had a Rothko room and an Alexander Calder room that were breathtaking. The larger, west wing, is more European art. The Garden Cafe was overpriced and the portions were extremely small. We spent about 3 hours to see the entire museum.
So much to see every visit. Don't miss the Corot Women exhibit currently there. A rare opportunity.
Of the best in the world. There is a lot to see. You have to organize otherwise it would take a month
It's a Smithsonian! Timed passes right now. Very secure - almost too. Don't bring a backpack.
The art here was absolutely beautiful! There wasn t just art, there were also amazing sculptures. I definitely recommend this museum.
Huge, wonderfully kept and surprisingly rich. Perhaps, at least in our country, it is too little known. Moreover, like every other museum in the Mall, it's free
I've never been a huge consumer of art apart from picking out new computer wallpapers from time to time. I was in DC with a friend and we decided to stop in and check the National gallery of Art out. I'm very glad that we did. The art and sculptures they have in this building are breathtaking. I am seriously considering going back to DC soon just for the art museum. If you're ever in the DC area you owe it to yourself to check it out!
Beautiful museum with an amazing collection of the Masters
It's a great place to go meander and relax. There are many great works of art there. One trip is not to actually appreciate all of works. There's always something to look at in different way. You will definitely win brownies points on dates. Speaking of which, if you're short on cash, it's perfect because admission is freeeee. Can't go wrong with that. The restaurants are reasonably priced. Although I recommend that you try the restaurant across the street at the new addition. The view is nice.
Guards (guides??) were surly and reluctant to answer questions.
The national gallery of art is amazing. The architecture and materials even looking from the outside is awe inspiring. When you go inside it only gets better as countless classic and famous paintings are awaiting to be seen. Plan to come here several times a couple hours each time as there is so much to see.
Fantastic encyclopedic collection, and free! One of the best art museums in the country, highly recommended.
Great place, and completely free. Bring your wallet for the store/cafeteria though.
Massive space and great building prefer the national portrait gallery but just personal preference with Art. Some great exhibits though.
Amazing. Essential works of art history. Beautiful and unmissable.
Love to look at the displays but the cafe is way too e pensive for what they serve.
So many masters to see. My daughter said she had goose pimples just from seeing Van Gogh's brush stokes in person.
Amazing selection of art. Da Vinci's Ginevra de' Benci is a must see. Great addition to the gallery is well supplied souvenir shop.
It is a very well organized Museum, where you enjoy the best works of art. The personnel is very friendly
Excellent experience with the art. Special exhibition of Vermeer.
The most favorite museum.
I went 3 times already but not enough haha
A must see attraction. You can easily spend an entire day here, maybe two.
A great place to visit for Fine Arts such as Monet, Rembrandt, van Gogh Etc.
One of our favorite destinations in DC. In the past we always wondered around ourselves between exhibitions and while we enjoyed the arts on display, the lack of background made it hard to fully appreciate the artists and their work. This time we joined a couple of free tours, each lasted about an hour. Though the tours only covered a tiny portion of the vast collections of the gallery, what a huge difference they made in our experience. Highly recommended.
If you appreciate art, then you have to go here. They have everyone!
Great collection of paintings - of the best in the world.
Great art.. definetly not a single day visit place.. if you want to cover all the items plan on 2 day visit
I had to visit multiple times while in DC. Worth every minute.
Amazing! I knew that I would love it, but even my husband, who was not thrilled about going there, enjoyed it.
We decided to take a day and do the museums and sites in the area and found the diversity of art to be incredible. While some of the exhibits may lack significance to some, there is certainly something for everyone that will touch your heart or cause you to pause. highly recommend taking the time and soaking up the culture.
Must visit if you have an interest in the arts. Lots to see and admire here.
Some of the most famous artist in the world throughout time all in one small location. A can not miss experience.
This museum showcases some beautiful works of art. The history of the building and the man who conscripted the building were all interesting. It is truely amazing to see what gifted, wealthy and USA loving people can do, and have done for their country. Maybe more people like these individuals will continue to show the world and America that their extreme wealth can be used for the benefit of all.
Very wonderful spot while in dc. Admire the art new and old visit both buildings which are huge. They have cafe and some of their stuff. Free of charge
Covid review: got free entry tickets. Entered at the scheduled time. Limited exhibits but for the ones open, it was good! The security guards were limiting numbers of people in the galleries. Highly recommend! Bathrooms clean.
Incredible selection, but you will have to come a few times to really enjoy it all.
Allow a half day even if you are not really into art
The national gallery of art is one of the greatest art museums around. It mostly focuses on western art, but other museums around the mall contain different geographic styles of art of that is what you are interested in. You could easily spend a whole day here if you want to look at all you can.
Excellent art gallery, there was a lot to see, it's so good I want to go again next year on my annual visit to DC
The building is almost as beautiful as the paintings inside. Lots of contemporary, medicinal, and renaissance art. Lots of very comfy seating and nice green areas that complement the room to room path you'll take for the art. If you enter from the mall, the more interesting pieces are to your left.
Such an amazing, eye-opening place to visit. I highly recommend visiting. The place is clean, the staff is attentive & very pleasant. The presentation is thoroughly thought out & modern. Plan on spending a couple of hours here.
Beautiful building, excellent paintings, a very good selection of painters. I enjoyed particularly the impressionist's selection
A place for those who love art and culture, excellent.
Beautiful space, helpful staff, so lucky that such a great asset is free to the public. The free audiotours aren't great, but they are free.
Nice collection of paintings and interesting early Picasso room. Don't miss the modern part of the exibit, it will be a lot of fun
Enough to see in 1 day and not get overwhelmed. Good mix and very organized.
Worth visiting! Make sure your eat at the cafe. Food is great
This is a real deal. Gallery is full of paintings and sculptures from masters
Free admission available for all ages, fun walk for the fam
There is an extreme peace in each room and allows you to appreciate each painting with delight
Overwhelming...in a positive way. Great screening facility for seeing films.
Very large. They check your bags at the door. Also, the coat room is free. The pastel exhibit does not have a taped commentary. Verrochio exhibit currently on display. He was da Vinci's teacher.
Its not finish at one day, you have to spend lots of time
Cannot say anything than simply outstanding. Museum has exhibition of big varianty of the artists across the globe though whole history. Entrance is free of charge If you love French impressionists you will be in paradise.
Great. Saw Frederic Bazille exhibition. Popped in to see Spanish collection. Great collection of El Greco. Manageable crowd. Not like the market place atmosphere of the Louvre.
Such an amazing, eye-opening place to visit. I highly recommend visiting. The place is clean, the staff is attentive & very pleasant. The presentation is thoroughly thought out & modern. Plan on spending a couple of hours here.
Better make sure you are ready to leave at 5 pm. Staff was rude and made me exit without the rest of my family. Only bad experience the whole trip
Magnificent master pieces, friendly staff, and free admission!
When I was a kid, I used to visit every summer because it was free and I lived in the area. There were a couple of paintings I liked, but really I just thought it was boring. But this past year I watched a bunch of art history videos on YouTube, and for the first time I understood a little about the art I was looking at. The National Gallery really does have an exceptional collection of important art! I thought I would be done with it in an hour, at most two, like every other time I had ever been there. Instead, my wife and I are there all afternoon, and we went back another day for four more hours because we hadn't yet seen everything we were excited to see. Biggest surprise of our trip to DC!
