Fantastic day outing arranged by my kids. Lots to do and see. Various types of animals and plants/trees. Lots of photo opportunities. A relaxing day out. Some of the big 5 are available to view. The only gripe is that some of the areas for the animals are small.

Although it's had some bad publicity from the tree huggers, we were pleasantly surprised by the neatness and general upkeep of the facilities. The animals were also in good condition in their enclosures.

Hi,

Hi,

Have you heard about Opal the orangutan who has spent her life alone and miserable in a cage at the Natal Zoological Gardens in South Africa? Each day she is released from her sleeping cage into her daytime cell. There on a meagre patch of grass with a makeshift "Jungle Gym" of poles, she spends every day of her life. Alone. Alone but for the people who come to stare.

A primate sanctuary in the United Kingdom has said that they would welcome Opal with open arms, but Brian Boswell, the owner of the Natal Zoo has refused to give her up.

I just signed a Care2 petition to urge Boswell to release Opal so that she can have the happy life she deserves.

I have seen photos of this place. Horrendous. The poor animals. "Hell is empty and all the devils are here." William Shakespeare. No morals, no compassion and no ethics. These animals are just there to make money from. How do you sleep at night? Oh I know, they are not seen as sentient beings, they are seen as nothing at all.

The many five star reviews, with nearly each one including one picture of the zoo, seem pretty suspicious and are most likely fake reviews posted by friends and relatives of the owner. This place is not a paradise but a prison for these animals. They are kept in unclean and poorly constructed tiny plots in the zoo where they have no enrichment and face extreme isolation. Check the story about Opal and you will know how bad this garbage place actually is.

If there are no school tours, it is a lovely experience. Sad to see the shool kids mock the animals and the teachers simply look at them and do nothing. We saw how animals get so stressed and aggressive because of it.

I will not support this zoo ever again by visiting it.
The animals are not well looked after and are in small enclosures. The lions look scrawny. It is heart breaking.
Buying entrance would be supporting this mistreatment of animals.

Went along for a visit with a friend and her kids. Just sad for the animals, being kept in captivity away from their natural habitat.Especially the tigers in such small spaces! They all have sad eyes! Look at the orangutang

Very cool place, animals live in the wild. They saw zebras, begimot, rhinoceroses, giraffes, antelopes, wild boars, ostriches, what kind of lamas, they are sugary and always ran away. Bigimotov with a small beghimotik also with a rhinoceros. A small rhinoceros, who does not look 16 years old at all. Very small. A mother is 40 so she really is a great begimot. But the fat, which 6 years old looks like a large individual. At the end of the trip, when they returned to the starting point, unfortunately, everything was forbidden by the ostrich, and in general they say that ostriches are the most stupid animals. In general, cool, I advise.

Fascinating up close encounter with gigantic lions, literally within a couple feet from the car with no barriers!! They actually lock you in the lions den! An experienced driver/guide is a must!!

It was exciting to see the variation of animals. And its exciting to see the enclosures of the larger animals being enlarged and extended. However, it was very littered when we visited. There was a group of school children, who were probably the reason behind it, but I hope that they would enforce littering as a serious offense so that people would know to keep it clean at all times.

Lots of room for the children to run and play without annoying anyone. Nice shady spots to picnic. Could be a supply water at a drinking fountain but we didn't find one. Ample free parking with security guards in attendance, and free entry to the gardens. Delightful orchid house with water falls and fish. Well wirth the visit. We also saw people walking their dogs so must also be allowed.
