The animals are great and there is a good deal of different species, the zoo still has a lot to do to make it great zoo. Needs more attractions or keepers to teach you about the animals and needs more general maintenance of surrounding cages to make it look better and cleaness of cages.

Very overgrown walkways. Some of the animals could definitely be in bigger cages. Undernourished animals. No more rhino, was poached a year ago. Lion park is separate from the zoo. R200 for a car. All in all a nice outing for the family.

Admission Fee: R70 Adults R50 Children. Big cats, many species of birds, baboons and buffalos. Enough picnic areas so remember to bring your food and drinks to chill in the park. There is a small fast food shop.

It's a nice place to visit. For me I think that there should be some improvements to the zoo. More animals. The current animals they have are interesting especially the Liger(tiger cross lion) beautiful animal.

ZOOS ARE ANIMAL PRISONS WHERE ALL THE ANIMALS ARE INNOCENT, YET THEY ALL HAVE BEEN GIVEN A LIFE SENTENCE!

There is NO education in captivity. Please don't take your children to the zoo, instead, take them to an animal sanctuary.

Zoos are prisons for animals. They are captivity and entertainment centres where collections of wild animals are exhibited in solitary, often in solitary confinement, with the main aim of satisfying the curiosity of visitors and making money.

Brian Boswell holds a number of animals captive in pathetic conditions at the Natal Zoological Gardens in Camperdown. Go see for yourself. Ban Animal Trading as well as various other organizations have appealed to Boswell for years to put an end to the imprisonment of these animals.

While the plight of all these animals are trapped at the Natal Zoological Gardens and need to be heard, Opal has become a poster child for the injustice found here. Opal is an orangutan who was born at the Zoological Gardens and has been imprisoned for all of her 40 years. She lives a life of boredom, frustration and misery in a barren cage with no stimulation.

Sadly one of the worst experiences, the state of this facility is in such dismay, the animals look like they are not cared for, the poor chimps have diseases and have no shade or toys, the large cats look so sad and thin like they are under fed. I woke up early and were on the road by 8 with the family armed with our picnic basket and braai stuff, only to come back with everything. So sad seeing these beautiful animals neglected

Extremely disappointed Animals look sad and depressed. Tiger looked Sooo thin. Looks like it starves. Over growth of vegetation blocking the viewing area. Very unkept and untidy. Animals sitting in the little shade that they can find. No clean drinking water in site for the animals. Will never ever waste my money driving all that way. Unfriendly staff that doesn't even welcome you in or give you a run down or even a map of the place. Pethetic

A lovely place to go and relax and see a large variety of wild animals. Many big cats within large cages. Good fastfood vendors on site with clean facilities. A pleasant and relaxing atmosphere.

Had an amazing day at the Natal zoological gardens as well as the lion park that's not very far from the zoo. Got to see alot of animals at the zoo such as foosas, Tigers, lions, lamas, alpacas, pigs, rabbits, birds etc.. It's an amazing place to take your family to, unfortunately we did not get to see the elephants and zebras on the 7km drive at the lion park. Either than that the overall experience was phenomenal.

condition of the cages are bad. most animals were pacing..... Pacing can be linked to captive stress syndroms, which occurs when animals are highly stressed because they don't feel safe or if they are simply bored. It shows what animals are looking for something. Maybe a place to hide, maybe something something to play with.

Loved it.
