From inmates to family Nassau county jail is worse...

From inmates to family Nassau county jail is worse than a 3rd world country. The conditions that they are made to live in and food that being serviced is worse than most animal shelters. Homeless people going to soup kitchen eat better than the inmates. But the guard caferia is gourmet. Medical is literally killing people. Rights are being extremely violated because they are about 150 or more under staffed. I could go on and on but writing this won't change nothing. But everyone should know this place is the worse jail in New York State and top 5 in the country

When calling it's nearly impossible to get a human to actually answer. When someone answers you'd think you're calling the gates of hell by the callous tone of voice of the retches that work there. They don't care who you are, they treat everyone like a criminal. Yes, even if you are a victim or an innocent conserned family member. I understand this is a correctional facility and they don't have to be nice and they do deal with criminals, but that does not mean that they have to be callous and rude and hateful and absolutely not at all helpful to everyone that they talk to. My best advice.. Don't bother trying. Try to get whatever information you need by other means. You're better off going online or calling the NCPD. Heck, the bail bonds men are a thousand times more courteous, down to earth, concerned, and helpful. As a matter fact, even the people at the impound lot can and will give you better service and accurate information than the beasts at NCJ. Btw, mothers vehicle was impounded when adult child was arrested under SUSPICION of a crime. Our personal belongings were taken from the vehicle added to SUSPECTED stolen items. We are victims too NCPD and NCJ!!

Trying to visit someone is rediculous. They treat YOU like a criminal. Also I have known people that have went here and your given a plastic spoon and a plastic cup when you get in. If like a normal person you assume you'll get another plastic spoon for the next meal and leave your spoon with the tray..they have no sympathy. Said people ate cereal with their hands or the back of a toothpaste bottle if they had commisary. When asking multiple officers at different times for a spoon was told they'd be given one during "the feeding". Took a week and a half for a replacement on a plastic spoon to eat with...

It's a jail. Not much more to say.

It's a jail. Not much more to say.
If you're looking to visit, check the website for the current visiting hours and arrive at least an hour and a half before closing time. Your visit will be limited to one hour. Do not wear any green, orange, or bright red clothing as you will be forced to take it off because they are the colors of the inmates clothing. You will be forced to take every single thing out of your pocket including your keys and electronics and place them in a locker. Make sure to wear shoes with socks as you'll be forced to take your shoes off and have them x-rayed and you will have to walk in your socks past the guard station. Guards are friendly.

Not sure how you are suppose to rate a jail. Howev...

Not sure how you are suppose to rate a jail. However I'm assuming most reading this are looking to visit someone in the jail. If so here is what you need to know:
Visits are limited to 1 hour, M-W between 8-11am and 12-4pm and TH-F between 12-3p and 4-8p (except federal holidays).

Each inmate is allowed 2 visits a week (3 visits a week if they are in a workers dorm). Attorney and professional visits don't count towards the limit.

DO NOT wear any green or orange clothes. It is the same color as the inmate scrubs and they will make you remove it before you can go on a visit.

You can leave money for an inmates commissary, however if it is a large amount of cash they will not accept it unless you can verify its source. Checks and credit work best. Keep in mind the limit an inmate can spend on commissary is $60 a week.

You will have to remove all electronic devices and anything made of metal before going on a visit. That includes your bra if it has a metal wire for reinforcement. They provide personal lockers with a key to store items while on a visit.

You have to provide some form of government identification before visiting also.

I believe up to 3 people can visit one inmate at a time. Best time to visit is early in the morning M-W. They are the busiest with visits during the afternoon on THUR and FRI. Morning visits usually require less waiting on your part and their are less inmates in the visiting room so you have more privacy.
