This fence was installed to separate this privately owned heritage home from the viewing public as they walk by in the park and read the descriptive plaque ( to be installed early 2019)
I contacted NAK designs as they had done the design work for Mattamy homes for this preserved heritage home at 920 Orr court in Kitchener and the city park in front of the home.
The park was designed so the home can be seen from the street because of its significance on the early provincial trade route.
Nak's design sketch shows the gate swinging out of the property (but not the location of the hinges or the latch for the gate) so Bomar landscaping from Elora installed the gate backwards , coming into our property, not going out of the property ( the homeowners own the fence) from a public park (literally inviting the public on to private property)
I contacted NAK twice and spoke to (Hart?) and then Kyle in an effort rectify the error.in October 2018. I assume this is an embarrassment or at least it should be.
Kyle was to look into a resolution, but like Dave Marrit from Bomar who told me they would fix the problem in May 2018 ( after he realised it was still incorrectly installed) simply does not seem to want to take ownership of the error and doesn't return correspondence.
Make sure you check their work before signing off of one of their projects.
Mattamy homes developed this 400+ home neighbourhood called Wildflowers Kitchener. This home was the original farm house from 1881 and they where required to build the park in front and separate the home with this fence. (they had nothing to do with the restoration of the house).
Mattamy homes Land Development manager, Tim Schnarr solution to this problem is "leave the gate as is and just leave it locked but that s your call"
I have consulted with my own planner who has confirmed "very little common sense"was used. You don't open a gate onto some one else's property, especially city owned property.
