We have hosted 5 kids now and our experience has been excellent. The kids have been great, smart, friendly, happy, helpful. Our local support team has been good when assistance has been needed. From my experience the quality of kids we are choosing from has been very high.

We had the best experience with hosting a foreign exchange student. Even though it was tough dealing with the changes from covid, everything worked well. We will definitely host again!

This company has made some bad choices when they put rules in place and DO NOT follow them. We had 2 students from Beijing and they were fine in the beginning. They decided to skip school and one was caught vaping which is against NACEL'S rules (along with our own family rules). The students got upset when we caught them doing it and proceeded to call their parents in China to be placed in different home. So, we as the host family shouldn't enforce rules and hold them accountable for their actions? What is the point of a family rule and guidebook if the company you are with will not even back you up? Their biggest worry is their bottom line and not losing the students $ because they pay so much to be here. It is sad that these students will not be held accountable for their actions and will be allowed to just call mom and dad instead of problem solving. I worry that as adults they will not know what the hell to do in harder situations. I am disappointed that a company would rather move kids around at their whim instead of problem solve. Good luck in the future of this company as numbers of exchange and international continuously decrease.

The students have brought love and laughter into our home. They feel blessed to have the opportunity to live in the USA, they know very few will will get the chance. No family or home is too small, just a giving spirit and a big HEART is all that is required! I look forward as year after year they give me a glimpse into a world outside of Waukesha Wisconsin. We're all learning to live our new normal. It never gets old listening to each students view on a typical day. Whether it be new friends or favorite teachers, we need to keep moving forward, I think they deserve it!

So far, my family and I have hosted a Finnish student for a full school year and a French student for a three-week summer study program through Nacel. Both experiences have been very positive, and we will host a student from Spain in the coming school year.

Our Nacel representative has done a very nice job of helping us choose good students for our family; checking in with us and the students regularly; and generally making sure everyone is doing fine.

We have already been in contact now for several weeks with the student from Spain and the family. Lots of communication in advance makes for a more positive experience, I think. So, if you are thinking of hosting, get on board in the spring or sooner to allow for plenty of time to get a feel for the people and the process involved.

Some advise from a past host family...
In the Fall of 2017, we sat down as a family to discuss pros/cons of hosting a NACEL exchange student for the upcoming year. Would we be able to transport her and provide her with enough experiences? Would she enjoy her stay with three siblings? After we decided to "take the plunge", we never looked back. Without a doubt hosting our student (from France) was one of the best decisions we made. We fell in love with new foods, learned more of the language, and grew our cultural knowledge. What we shared of American culture and norms, she reciprocated freely about France.

The end result of our exchange was meeting her family and showing them a bit more of Wisconsin. We hope to travel to France in the upcoming years and feel we've made lifelong friends. Our advice for others considering hosting is- go for it! Take the risk, you won't regret it.

Nacel Open Door is one of the most incompetent companies I have ever had the displeasure of working with. With the COVID-19 pandemic crisis going on, their inability to run a company has just become more apparent. They've kept families in the dark about any plans on how to deal with students.

Currently, they have several 5-star reviews: nearly all of them are from Nacel employees, which is extremely unethical.

I am just a current host parent and I cannot imagine leaving my own child in their hands. They don't care about the safety of the students.
