A cool little book store tucked away from the busier part of the square. Good selection and the staff went out of their way to help me find what I was looking for.

Absolutely a throw-back to how neighborhood book stores are supposed to be. If you can't find it here,, they'll order it for you. Very friendly staff make you feel right at home.

This place is amazing! This is a bookstore that exclusively sells sci fi and fantasy books. It's organized by subgenres, making it very easy to find exactly the thing you're looking for, with books in the front of the store being staff picks with detailed reviews on note cards. The subgenres everything is categorized are seriously the best, because it can be incredible frustrating to find fiction with a protagonist you can relate to, particularly if you're black or latinx looking for high fantasy where the only Poc tend to be grunting inhuman bad guys and desert nomads. They also have genres like "strong female protagonist" and "Poc protagonist" and "LGBTQA+" They aren't restricted to just fiction, they also have art resources /reference/collection books and coloring books. Their young adult fiction and children section is impressively sizeable, I would argue half the store. They also only have one shelf of collectibles so they aren't just trying to get kids in with toys etc. The bathrooms were all gender, clean, and themed. The staff was supremely knowledgeable, and readily made recommendations based on what I was looking for, eg stories lead by the antagonist and the bad guys win stories.

I don't live in San Diego but whenever I visit, going to Mysterious Galaxy is a must ! Possibly it's a good thing for my wallet that they aren't any closer, but I found out they do online orders to, so that may have a bad end. Particularly like their in-store events where they bring in great writers from all over the country for readings and signings.

Wonderful selection of mysteries and science fiction. They're extremely supportive of writers and hold numerous events promoting books and authors. Among the best bookstores around with extremely involved, committed owners and staff, able to make terrific recommendations for readers that are right on target.

Hands down the best in San Diego for Thrillers, Mysteries and Science Fiction. Plus it seems like the staff has red half of them.

As a Sci-fi/Fantasy Geek, this is my favorite place in SD.
not only do they have all the great books (most have a signed copy too), the staff knows their stuff, and you will find at least 1 staff member who read any book you can think off.

Great selection! The traditional book store is a soon to be extinct location. I love this little gem. My kid struggles with reading what is expected for his age and this store had opened him to new possibilities. Love love love it.

Schedule book signing for 400 people, check. Provide 80 parking spaces, check. Share those parking spaces with a huge market, check. Enjoy your time looking for a parking spot!

First time here was for a book signing and I fell in love. I will be back regularly just to talk with the staff about what they are reading.

Nerd heaven. Now that Upstart Crow is gone, this is my new favorite store in all San Diego. Excellent customer service, darn good selection of fun gifts, and they'll special order anything they don't have on hand. Love the events.

I love this bookstore and the employees! Everyone is friendly and knowledgeable. If they don t have it they can order it for you. In the days of point-click-deliver, I am glad that this place still exists. They have turned me on to many new authors. I have gone to several signings and had actual face-to-face time with some of my favorite authors like; Brandon Sanderson, Jonathan Maberry and Joseph Finder.

Best specialty bookstore ever. If they don't have it, they'll get ASAP. I have never been disappointed. Always happy to pay retail to support them. Plus the staff is so knowledgeable--they can always recommend a few authors I don't know if I give them the name of an author I have been reading. The recommendations are always on target. It is everything that a mystery, sci-fi, young adult urban fantasy bookstore should be and more. Plus they sell good chocolate bars at the counter!

An amazing bookstore! Everything was laid out well. Staff recommendations were very helpful when sorting through the large selection. The staff were also attentive and helpful. The location is a little hard to reach in a a strip mall.

Although the genre of the book is biased, it can also be ordered. The corner clerk can be trusted. There is also an autograph session for writers.

Went to their booth at Comic Con for a book Signing. After I got the book signed and personalized I was informed that I owed them money for the book. There was no sign anywhere that said anything about having to buy the book to get it signed.
I was considering buying several book from them until this happened.

Mysterious Galaxy bookstore is a special little bookstore tucked away into Clairemont. For us lovers of fantasy and sci-fi, this is an excellent location to pick up, meet and greet authors and enjoy store events. The shop staff is wonderful, polite, helpful and absolutely LOVE what they do. I can't recommend Mysterious Galaxy enough.

Such a cute bookstore with so many great books and products, I could have easily spent a LOT of money here. Favorite part is the "Destination Literature" section! Brilliant! Can't believe I've never come across this shop before. Love that it's open late, too. Highly recommend.

I just left there after shopping all day & they were very helpful, and they had the books that I was looking for. While checking out they asked me if I wanted my books wrapped, that was so nice of them & I did take them up on the offer. I highly recommend this Mysterious Galaxy BookStore.

Wonderful independent bookstore with a nice variety of genres. Even has a children's section. Also has a nice selection of bibliophile pins and t-shirts, along with book bags. I highly recommend!

Amazing, extremely notable authors frequent this little store. I visited when Brandon Sanderson made an appearance, and it was a really wonderful experience. Their selection is fantastic, and the staff all seem to be very invested in their product.

Fantastic SciFi/Fantasy bookstore, especially considering that those are the genres I'm primarily interested in. They have consistent author signings, special editions, signed editions, and a nice t-shirt and miscallenous selection. You might find some cool goodies from your favorite books! Everything is a bit on the pricey side though.

Knowledgeable staff, fun atmosphere, great selection. Selection is genre specific but they order anything, and their rewards programs are awesome. Great kuds section. In store author events, themed parties and give aways rock. So fortunate that we can walk to this store!

Really cool bookstore. I've been to a few signings there with Charlaine Harris and Patricia Briggs and Robert Jordan back in the day. They bring in some good authors. Very friendly and helpful staff and great book selection.

I was sad that they moved at first. I work across the street from the old location. But, double the space, that's great news. Always friendly and helpful. Knowledgeable staff. Truly an asset to the community.

The Green Man is an Mysterious Galaxy Bookstore. Jill the owner is an absolute treasure (pun intended) and even married my wife and I. We are happy to be part of this amazing family and are so lucky to have this store in our community.

Just really not my thing. I was able to find a book for the airplane but the idea behind the Bookstore doesn't jive with me I guess. Or rather their selection of literature was extremely narrow to fit it's POV.

Book Lovers Paradise! This place amazes me, granted I live in San Diego so it doesn't take much! They have an amazing collection of books about art, and the prices are more than reasonable. I would think a grad student could get text books here, its that amazing. They also had adorable little shirts for kids with original covers of ironic books. loved it. Cant wait to visit CA again and spend hours browsing the books here!

Our favorite bookstore! The staff is friendly and helpful and always have great recommendations when you are in a reading rut. They host fun events, like author events and signings, book clubs, and D&D campaigns. If you haven't checked out this place you need to do it. Keep in mind they are moving to a new location in January.

Everything here is easy to find. Clerks are knowledgeable of the book world, unlike workers at Barnes and Noble.

MG is the single most amazing, customer service focused indie bookstore I have ever been to. If you love mysteries, sci fi, urban fantasy, paranormal, or fantasy adventure genres, this is the store made just for you! Everyone that works there knows the books and the authors intimately and can make suggestions of other authors to read based on just a few of your favorites. And let's not forget to mention that they have the best author signings around! Oh, and various monthly book clubs that meet...
