Excellent food. You will eat way too much if you go toward the end of brunch and stay to eat dinner offerings from the buffet. That`s the best bargain at $26.95. Fresh hot fried fish and chicken delivered to your table is great. Service can be a little slow.
As a former employee of Mr. Murrell I must say I that enjoyed working for him. He is and was a great supporter to say the least. He was my second dad. The food is amazing. My daughter was always asking for more, which she doesn't do too often when we go out to eat. Her fav were the pork neck bones. They melt in your mouth. The only thing...its first come first served. If you want them go get them in the morning after breakfast...lol..thanks to Mr. Murrell and his team they really know their stuff.
Wonderful very enjoyable experience staff for professional and I really enjoyed myself looking forward to coming back again I was there for my son's graduation luncheon for people receiving a master's degreeall the people in attendance were very memorable and very respectful I think everyone enjoyed themselves I know I did
Soul Food Buffet. Also Best kept secret for events- includes food, tablecloth, china all setup, you choose your colors.
Good food....hot fish is the plus....check hours....limited openings. Love it....
Staff is great and the food is amazing. Love the fresh fried chicken and fish. Very casual even better to be here on Father's Day and not have to wait to be seated or to eat! Love it. We will definitely be back
Had a church dinner here Thursday and the food was delicious the staff was great and the place was beautiful my son couldn't get enough of the fried catfish I will definitely be coming back..
What a pleasure it was to stumble across this hidden gem. Yolanda made this a great experience. Southern Hospitality at its finest. I ordered a waffle and omelette before seeing the cooked food. The baked chicken was juicy and well seasoned. Collard greens that I once hated were awesome! The candied yams were point blank delicious. ..... There is more to offer, so visit for yourself! Oh! btw the set up inside will completely shock you.
Sunday Southern hospitality!!! As the outside breeze blows thru the campus diner window, enjoy the aroma of home fried chicKEN!!! Have it YOUR way:
chicKEN and Waffle or soul food w/ chicKEN!!! Staff eagerly waiting to serve!!! And the ambience is being in the rich history of HBCU!!!!
Dont forget the shrimp and grits folk and the ICE TEA
Entered near nine, it wasn't busy. I will probably become a regular. Feeling here is like a restaurant in Fort Worth I liked.
Attended Southern Comfort's Christmas party and the food was the best genuine soul food not cooked in my moms kitchen lol
From Atlanta and just discovered this soul food buffet... will be back to support and bring many others. Has an 'A' inspection. Very clean establishment on the campus. Staff very, very nice and professional. Buffet is $14 (all you can eat) during the week and $26 for brunch. Could get 5 stars with just a few changes. The cooked to order chicken and fish is the highlight. Do not serve days old cornbread. Please get better yams! Try frozen veggies instead of canned and perhaps partner with Westside Community Garden for some fresh veggies. The tea is good. Need some type of dessert. Also, fresh veggies don't require a ton seasoning - let cabbage be cabbage. I will be back and have started spreading the word.
They've moved, but I don't know where. If you find out, go try it!
First time and last time the food was not that good. And to high prices 26 dollars and no air conditioning very hot inside the place, I will not be going back!
Attended a meeting which included a very limited low class breakfast. Canned biscuits and un-riped cantaloupe. Very uncomfortable no air-conditioning
Best soul food my husband and I have ever tasted. I believe the owner name is mike.
Situated in the heart of Atlanta University(HBCU). The best SOUL FOOD RESTAURANT in Georgia. As long as you are in this great restaurant, the chicken and fish never stop coming. The restaurant is inside of ITC CAMPUS, drive up to the drive way and campus security will direct you to the appropriate place. Merrell restaurant is buffett style, so the food is everlasting and the food is good. Turn off Martin Luther King Drive onto ITC College campus. The atmosphere is perfect and the food is awesome. I take school groups and family reunion here. Great Soul Food prepare the way Grandma designed her recipes to taste and cherish.
The staff was very knowable of the menu, very courteous and polite when asked questions, the food was seasoned well and tender, one of the best cafe's I've had the pleasure to visit, I would recommend it to everyone if you're in the area great management system, (servers without attitude). from North Carolina
Wonderful place to eat. I am from MS so it is difficult to find some soul food that's better but this is amazing. The food is superb. It is in a hideaway area bit please don't judge the book by its cover. I was stuffed to the max. Please try.
Good food great atmosphere to meet with family and friends
I went here first and foremost for the historical value and secondly for the food. So, my expectations were tempered in that order. Staff is light but I think they may get busy on the weekend for brunch, because they have a huge main seating area and a cozy sized secondary are too. I tried a little of everything the day I came. The fried chicken is good along with the fried fish (whiting). I tried mashed potatoes & gravy (delicious gravy), mac n' cheese were cheesy, collard greens had a very nice taste and were seasoned well, yams (were cooked perfectly), rice was hard (either undercooked or dried out from heat lamp), the pork backbones are divine (even before hot sauce was added)
The food was DYNAMITE!!!! The service makes you feel as comfortable as grandma's house. If you haven't lifted a fork in this place . . . then well you simply just haven't lived. Do not pass Go. Go directly to Murrell's Cafe!
Dinner party here with good buffet and excellent service!
It was a wonderful and great experience for my first time to attend the national Pan Hellenic Counsel meeting at Murrell cafe. The food as always and forever will be outstanding. The fellowship, scholarship, and uplifting amongst the divine 9 was great. I have learned a lot. Great location and good food will go a long way. A shout out to my Frat brother and the Murrell family. RQQ ....Jaysen Berkley 5 -16 KAA
NO! Do NOT go there. I was there June 17, 2017. A rodent ran across the floor. It was hot and there was no air conditioning. Opening the windows pulled in more hot air. I couldn't wait to LEAVE!
Old school church fellowship hall decor and smell. For that 'Big Mama' type food go here. The food was tasty I'm just far removed for the dead animals and greens cooked in dead turkey
If this is your thing then please go. It did remind me of my younger days in Atlanta!
The service was poor. The food was spectacular. The location is really interesting.Inside a college cafe
The food was the best, hot fried chicken and fish collard greens to die for so tender and good. Oh the ice tea, can't leave it out, the boom.
fell in love with this place from the 1st taste. the staff was very sociable and kind. it has a good atmosphere.
Murrell's Cafe was truly home for me. I am a vegan and I was not lost/without food or without what I needed to enjoy my moment here.
This place is seriously Georgia's best kept secret so far, but that's about to change now that I know where they are.
The food is amazon and the staff is so so nice and funny..... I just referred a friend here and she is going to have here wedding here.
First-rate ambience and very friendly service. The food was crisp and delightful. Will definitely recommend this restaurant to my friends. Convenient prices and big portions. Great job.
Air was out. I was so scared that my food would be spoiled I hardly ate. It was ok. Im on a business trip and didnt get a receipt, so that wasted meal was on me.
Service stations that were supposed to be manned were not heated or manned. Service was nonexistent. They only serve sweet tea and water. Would have gone to vending machine for coke products, but I couldn't do that. The website is innacurate in its prices. It is $22 instead of $20 with a mandatory $4 gratuity. Terrible. Will never eat there again.
Please dont sleep on this food. It is soo good and you will be pleasantly surprised.
Food was good, service was good. It was hot due to no air but we were told why. Also ive never been to a buffet where you had to wait to be severed and was screamed at if you got your own plate. There was no unsweetened tea, i had to keep asking for it. 18% gruituity was added in without your permission even if it was a table of 1 or 2. The servers walked around with fried chicken and fish but if it ran out you had to wait. Im just used to a self serving buffet and adding my own tip. But the food good.
Good food, but the prices have jumped dramatically for the buffet (from ~$12 to $25 per person). Used to be a no brainer but the price makes you think twice about whether to visit there now or not.
Good place to catch up with friends. Reminds me of a restaurant in Philadelphia that I enjoyed.
This site is my favorite site. Of all restaurants I know I love it most. I never miss an opportunity to go to visit this place. everytime I feel like having a proper lunch, this place comes straightaway to my head. splendid and all sorts of food and a rich cuisine.helpful crew, and nice vibes. Also, the price is reasonable. I tell about this restaurant with great pleasure.
Awesome food and customers services are good.
friendly staff and fresh food
Great food! Free parking! Recommend to all to have brunch or lunch or dinner here!
They a lie and the truth is not on google!! Murrell's cafe is closed!! Not open!! don't waist your gas..
Fish and Grits
Good.
Everything was too salty or too sweet but the people were really nice! Chef may just have had a bad day. It happens. The thing about soul food is it just needs to get better for the body. Less salt, less sugar and less fat. Keep the flavor!
Took too long for them to bring out chicken wings and fish. I thought they would have brought out a platter and sit on the table but they just gave one little wing to one person at a time.
Food was basic and overpriced at $26 especially if you're not eating meat. Also only chicken, fish and turkey available for meat eaters. The waitresses were excellent though.
Very warm atmosphere! Get the Greens. Get the cobbler:)
The food was good. The sweet tea was great. I give the services five stars.
The staff was very nice and very helpful. The cuisine is Southern. Baked chicken and Turkey wings. Yams and collard greens and string beans.
My experience were simply wonderful great staff and owner
The food was so rich and so good. It took me 3 days to eat. Portions were large. Staff very friendly. Not fancy but good food from a good cook I rate them top.
Hot as hell... Literally! And tight with the food even though it was supposed to be buffet style. They serve you the fish and the server won't give you seconds! Lol
The food and service are exceptional. The brunch is well worth the money.
The best soul food I've had from a restaurant in quite some time.
The food is always excellent. The servers work very hard to make sure you they take care of you.
Amazing food. Stumbled across this place on accident...friendly welcoming staff & tasteful southern cuisine. Will def make this a staple stop in my visits to ATL. No complaints. Also, Yolanda was so warm & welcoming towards us from the minute we walked in. Love love loved it here.
Great service and a truly hidden gym. Fresh fried chicken and fish was unlimited as well as rice and gravy, mac and cheese, collard greens and corn bread. There were a few more food choices but that's just what I had. If only the line of people waiting for a seat at another soul food restaurant right up the street knew about this. Maybe they wouldn't have tired out their legs and bore the brunt of the weather as I got an immediate seat and had a delicious meal.
A little late opening but food & service were well worth the wait. Will definitely go back!!
Had my family reunion here. Never knew this place existed before then. The tea is the best I've ever had but wish they could get AC.
We held my mother's 80th birthday celebration there on Sunday, October 18, 2015. I must say, your facility made it such a joyous and memorable event. The setting and staff was excellent and reasonably priced. The food was superb. I will be back and I will refer all of my friends and family to your establishment. Mr. Murrell and his staff was great. He even supported my mothers theme for her party by wearing his purple shirt.
