Don't trust anything they say. My mother took our grandfathers rav 4 in for a rego check (pink slip) and they tried to charge us $1935 to replace the rear axel and diff mount. We got under and had a look and it was simply some rubber boots on the rear axel that were slightly split. My father (retired mechanic) and myself went back and questioned the mechanic and their mood changed from arrogance to scared and put on the spot. They re-quoted around $600+ (still a rip off since its $60 worth of boots and $35 for diff rubber buffer online and simple task to replace) shame on them for trying to take advantage and rip off my 60 year old mother.
