A great public mountain golf course. The facility is dated, but it's still great for a daily fee golf course.

The views of Mt. Mitchell are most beautiful, throughout the course. The staff are friendly and professional.

The good...The coarse and scenery are pretty.the staff are very nice and friendly and you can tell they're trying to make sure you enjoy your round of golf. The bad...Cart path only. And this is strictly inforced.Rough is deep around some of the Green's and along fairways.Water issues in certain areas. The ugly... Coarse design and layout.Several holes are stacked on top of each other. As soon as you tee off at #1 it will soon become apparent once you get to the green.#2 tee box will be just to the right of the #1 green and anyone in that tee box will be hitting back at you.The conclusion.. Would I play it again??Yes... Even though the layout is the worst aspect of the coarse,I understand it's a older design. It would be hard if not impossible to change it now.Cart path only might not be a good thing for a lot of golfer's but I don't mind.Just make sure you don't get in the line of fire from another group teeing off at another tee box near you.(yes, it's that tight on at least one hole).. The main reason I would play again is the staff. They we're really nice and friendly. All golf courses have issues but not all have people working at them that try to make you feel welcome ..

My favorite mountain course on the east coast. Beautiful rolling hills with spectacular change in elevation. Rolling creeks through the course. A tremendous test of golf. Greens are fast and challenging.

Had not played here in about a year & has always been one of my favorite courses for its beauty. This time I was disappointed in the condition. Tee boxes were covered in divots showing no repair or maintenance. Greens were very slow & the 6" deep rough was left un-cut. We had no one in front to hold us up, but still took 5 hours to play due to the amount of time we spent trying to find our ball in the dough. My group said they would not be back. Sad for such a beautiful course & location. I'm assuming the lack of play & the economy has cough up with them or lax on managing. Hope they can see fit to improve the condition & save this jewel.

The sweetest views, it's a fine upscale golf course in the Mountains but have great two day packages. Play a round, stay in a condo on the course, play a second round the next day. $125 a piece. Just the views are worth it but it's a well taken care of course. It's a upscale course very nice. I highly recommend going. You want regret it, you will come away with some awesome pictures.

A surprisingly challenging course, with many tight fairways, bunker-guarded greens, wiry rough, and two crystal clear streams (the Roaring Branch & South Toe) that reappear on so many holes it's like seeing an old friend after a while. The streams have huge Rainbow Trout in them, which you can feed from several spots on the course. Fish food is available at the clubhouse. Cart path only, however. So be prepared to walk a bit more than usual.

Played there last Monday, stayed at one of their condos overnight, then played Tuesday morning. Wonderful place, friendly people, great weather, and a well-maintained golf course. I really enjoyed it. I found the price for the whole package to be very reasonable.

Slow, bumpy greens. Carts on path only, ALL the time. Short, easy course. One of the par three pins was only 93 yards from the white tees. Crowded course resulted in a near 6hr round. No reason to drive there unless you live really close. On the plus side, they were grilling burgers and the bartender was pretty good. Nice trout stream running through the course with fish food for sale. Feeding the fish gives you something to do while waiting 10 mins to hit your next shot.

With a name like Mount Mitchell Golf Club and a location in the mountainous terrain of Western North Carolina, you d expect the golf course to have a tremendous amount of elevation change. Although this is not the case, the Mount Mitchell More

Course has some great views. Greens were in great shape. They roll slow so make sure to hit it. Course didn't seem that hard, but I didnt play well. Not worth the money in my eyes. I thought it was a little expensive, especially since you cant even drive in the fairways. I have played nicer courses cheaper on the weekends. I would probably play it again but only thru the week. Fairways were decent for the most part.

Absolutely stunning golf coarse, i have been playing here for 15 years and each time out presents a new challenge. The prettiest coarse I have played east of the Mississippi River, and probably my favorite coarse to play ever.

Great mountain course. Unbelievably flat for a track at this elevation. That's by design. Others complain about tight layout, but the valley is in the shadow of the tallest mountain east of the Mississippi, and fitting 18 holes in such a tight spot was an accomplishment.

The staff is casual but accommodating. The fairways are excellent because it is cart paths only all the time. If you have physical limitations be advised. Mount Mitchell is the wettest climate in the eastern US and if they allowed carts it would be a hot mess. So, enjoy awesome approach shots but bring your raincoat. Also it is worth noting the weather can be 20+ degrees cooler than expected. Bring a jacket even in July. The abrupt climate changes are my favorite aspect of the course.

If you like hiking, fly fishing, camping, mountain biking or any other outdoor sports, you can travel minutes from the course to get your fix.

All in all my favorite local, public course. I'm a NC native and it's the best we have to offer.

I recently visited the area for a golf retreat with 2 of my best friends and my 21 year old son. He's in college and I wanted to make his 21'st birthday memorable. We rented an Airbnb cabin for a weekend male bonding and golf.
We had an 11 am tee time and after paying our green fees were were greeted by the field marshall. He asked if we'd ever played the course. Since we told him that it was our first time, he was happy to give us the cliff notes of the course. He also told us the history of the course which was also cool to learn about.
The course is cart path only all the time. This is the first course I've ever played that is cart path only all the time. I have never experienced fairway like this. It's like hitting your ball off silky butter. I was hitting green all day, and that's not normal for me. I have to think that it had a lot to do with the condition of the fairway.
The course was more challenging than I'm used to, with sand traps strategically place for difficulty. The streams that ran through the course on seemingly every hole weren't really a problem unless you had an unruly slice which one of my mates did. It's as if the stream just followed you around to enhance your scenic experience.
My son beat me for the first time and I couldn't have been prouder. We take some kind of men's trip every year. This by far tops them all and this beautiful course played a big part. I can't recommend it enough.

What a gorgeous golf course!! Played twice in late July, 2014 and enjoyed every minute. The greens and fairways were lush and soft. The greens putted slower than you'd think for bent grass. The landscape is a site to behold. Nearly every hold gives a different perspective of the Mt. Mitchell range. The course is a fair test of golf. It is cart path only, but it just gives you more time to experience the beauty and allows the course to remain untouched by anything but mowers and nature. Everyone needs to play it at least once! I'll definitely be back. Also try the restaurant afterwards. Great food!

I was told the elevation was around 4700 ft. Something I love for the temperature. Got there and found it is more like 2500 ft. Disappointed.
Found they are cart path only. Wasn't noted to me earlier. However, I did expect it because it had rained 3 of the previous 5 days.
No driving range. So, stretch and warm up with lots of swings.
So, started out unhappy. it changed some on every hole.
Beauty is everywhere.
Design is very good. No Mickey Mouse holes. Lots of elevation changes. Mountain tops in every direction. Some holes reminded me of the courses I played in the jungles of Singapore, Malaysia, and Thailand. Others were like being in Colorado.
A river runs through it. Adds so much to the beauty and just plain old FEEL! Plus, the largest trout I have ever seen. Browns I think. TAKE SOME FISH FOOD. That way you get to see them. More of them and closer. Just don't hold up the group behind you.
Advise you play on a Monday or Tuesday. Weekends can get crowded.
Oh yes. The staff are very nice and very helpful.
I will be back often.

One of my favorite courses. I've been going there for the last 16 years or so and have never been disappointed, until this year. Several fairways are crusty and the grass is dying and the greens are like velcro...very slow! I hope the maintenance crew takes care of this beautiful course soon.

Outstanding views, several tight fairways, not older player friendly. No restrooms on course. Told by starter to use nature, not received as good news with wife of 61 years. Restricted to cart path at all times. Again not pleasant or recommended for older players. Recommend course for younger players who do not mind tree relief, unless you have friends or your own house on course. Due to cart on cart path only restriction, I asked if walkers can play, yes, but no pull carts allowed . Give me a break. Good course for play but we will never repeat due to unfriendly restrictions.

Beautiful setting at the base of Mount Mitchell alongside the pristine South Toe River. It's amazing with their climate how well the course is maintained. Staff is very friendly and overall is a great place to play. It's cart path only all the time, so that makes for some walking but with the scenery, that makes it easier. Also, it's laid out with only minimal hills in the valley. Highly recommend it for an outing.

Mt. Mitchell is simply a must play course if you're in the area! It's in the South Toe River valley and you play across the river a couple times. If you're looking for a great layout, fantastic conditions, beautiful scenery, and a super friendly staff, this is the place for you. Definitely take your camera cause this place is beautiful in the fall!

Other than losing golf balls right down the middle due to nightly irrigation, it's still in my top three courses. The staff is courteous and makes one feel very welcome. Bring plenty of golf balls.

Ended up there on a Friday last minute after a recommendation from the owners of Albert's Lodge - could not have been more pleasantly surprised. There where 6 of us and they accommodated us within 10 minutes. The food was unbelievable, BEST FILET we have ever eaten (and we've had a few!) All our food was delicious but the staff.... unbelievably friendly! Was so refreshing! Taylor and Stu - thank you for making our evening wonderful and all of the other staff as well! We can't wait to come back!

We were really looking forward to having the prime rib. . .but what a let down, $29 and mostly fat. Everything was luke warm and nothing was fresh...maybe reheated from the previous night? At least the bread was hot and tasty. The clubhouse is in dire need of a major remodel. The service was outstanding.
We will give them another chance, but only one more!

Great, beautiful, fun, scenic, and fantastic. Course is so much fun and will test every club in the bag. Course has some elevation change, but it's not rediculously up and down. If I had to say there was one drawback, it would be that it's cart path only ALL the time....but that's it. Go play it!!

Went here for our anniversary to get away from everything and it worked :) The golf course is spectacular, worth the expense. The room we stayed at was very nice, had two bedrooms with 4 queen beds though we only needed one. Kitchen had a stove, pots/pans even soap and towels. There is free wi-fi in the room. Only wish they had a better description of what was in the room before we went, and a pool or jacuzzi would be really nice in the summer as after golfing all morning it would be the perfect place to relax and cool off from the humidity. We did eat one night at the restaurant and it was decent food and great service with a nice view of the golf course. There is one other restaurant on the mountain, which also has a small convenience store with very fresh produce and some other basics. Otherwise the drive is a true mountain road for about 20min to Marion where there are many other restaurants and stores. Overall would recommend for a weekend getaway.
