Our group of 7 enjoyed Mount Kato on Monday, Dec. 27. We went skiing during the afternoon hours and finished after dark with the lights on. Tired and exhausted but thoroughly full of excitement and enjoyment we made the 2 + hour trek home back to the Fort Dodge, Iowa area. We have been before and will come again. The rental shop people were great help for us.

We love about 2 hrs away and this is our skiing destination choice every year. Easy to get to, great facilities, good variety of hills for every skill. Kids always have a good experience.

I was never very good at skiing but, my son thinks it is great. He meets a few of his friends here and they will stay all day. Especially, if the snow is good and the hills are covered well. Most of the people at the ticket booth are pleasant and helpful. The equipment rentals are usually pretty good. There are skies, snowboards and inter tubes. You can rent the correct type of boots and helmets, if you don't have your own. My son says the food is good and you can get something to drink too. He likes the sloppy joe and fries with either a water, gatorade or an occasional Sierra mist. There are classes for those that want to learn how to ski or to become a better skier. You can also book a group. There are different hills for the different level of skier. It can be a bit pricey but there are seasonal passes, specials, group rates and discounts available. I recommend checking out their website for details.

Great staff, went on a Saturday and didnt see it get too busy until noon. Rentals were cheap and only 50 dollars a ticket for the lifts. Definitely will be back.
Great slopes of all kinds.

I had a great time tubing at Mount Kato with my family today, however if the lack of attention by the employees at the tubing hill there continues someone will be seriously injured before the end of the season.

First off, way too many tickets were sold for the two hour session, resulting in 10-15 minute waits to go back up each time

The attendants on the lift were not helpful. There were sometimes huge gaps because a kid was waiting for an ok from the attendant that never came. However they were quick to bark if people were too close. My nephew almost fell because an attendant told him to wait as he was stepping on. If they would just be more interactive with the paying customers this wouldn't happen.

The end of the lanes is just flat out dangerous and don't have any employees watching it like it needs to be. People are crossing the lanes after coming to a stop, when the lanes they are crossing are faster and tubes are flying through them. The employees were oblivious to this. When an employee was stationed at the bottom, this was all happening behind them. We saw a kid get bowled over, lying on the ground motionless for a few seconds before getting up slowly and being helped off by his mom. Not one employee noticed this.

I would love to go back and give a better review, but as long as the lack of attention by the employees leads to serious safety issues, I can't give any higher than a one star review. Just beware and pay attention to your surroundings if you go!

Nice place to take family for skiing. Has a good variety of slopes for different skill levels. The only thing to know if that if you have never done skiing before, there is no real "bunny hill" to start off on, because you have to take the chair lift for every slope, including the beginner easy slopes.
