Mixx Bar and Restaurant Review

Brunch price is too high for the amount of food you get. The brunch food was cold.

I placed a carry out order. The hostess was courteous with explaining the dishes. I ended up ordering the fried calamari and fried yuca. With the prices charged, I did not expect the portion sizes to be so meager (8 squid rings and a small handful of yuca fries). The automatic gratuity is also somewhat strange for carry out. I saw Gratuity (20%) so thought it was the typical "Suggested Gratuity" line. As such, I added that amount in as a tip, not knowing it was already added in.

I got served nice bourbon in a plastic cup at 11 p.m. on a Thursday. Weird DJ with no one dancing. Looks like an okay beer selection

The music is too loud and the sound quality is poor.

On my way home and had a quick question for the bouncer Saturday night. I addressed him with respect and deference, only to be met with contempt and unwarranted aggression. The man was unprofessional, rude, and dismissive. As the first face one sees of this organization, he made me never want to patron it.

The spot is really good but the menu is not that great.

Great food, especially African dishes such as the cassava leaves chutney; good live entertainment also.

This bar is good for a drink if you're not in a hurry. The food used to be great years ago, now the focus is on cheap cocktails and private events. Service is spotty with a manager trying to carry the whole bar.

The owner was very helpful and nice. It was a busy Saturday evening, but he still assisted me and my sister and even gave us a free glass of wine while we waited to be seated. I was so impressed with the atmosphere that I decided to use that venue for my birthday celebration.

Overall great experience. Nice venue to relax and have a good lunch. Food is delicious!

Just moved to area about month ago. Trying out places within walking distance. This place has nice tvs, but low quality food and way too expensive drinks. woomp woomp :(

I hated the drinks and how long it took to get them. Its very loud I overall had a bad time. Will never return

This is a very nice atmosphere. It carries an upscale clarentel .Carl Malcolm and Positive Vibration Reggae Band played to a packed house on Saturday 6 th April.
The Image Band is the resident band and keeps the people rocking from Reggae to Soka on Saturdays.
The Mix is a nice place to be.

DONT GET A HOOKAH. We paid $40 for a hookah, which ran out in less than an hour. We paid $10 for a refill, and then the battery immediately ran out. The chic offered to charge it, and we waited over an hour while she brought hookahs to other tables. Then she tried to tell us it had only been 15 minutes and everyone else preordered their hookah. She's a thief and a liar. Also, the service is bad, and they add 20% gratuity for parties of one or more.

It had a good staff there when I visited at night time

The crowd was okay. Food and service was decent. Drinks were decent as well.

USUALLY WHEN I WRITE REVIEWS ITS CAUSE IT'S GOING TO BE SOMETHING GOOD AND POSITIVE BUT TODAY I REALLY HAD TO WRITE A BAD REVIEW TOWARDS THIS PLACE. LONG STORY SHORT THIS PLACE HAS THE WORST SECURITY EVER, THE BARTENDERS HAVE NO EXPERIENCE AT ALL!!! ON TOP OF THAT THEY ARE RUDE AS HELL THAT MAKES YOU WANT TO PUNCH THEM IN THE FACE AND ON TOP OF THAT THE PRICES FOR DRINKS ARE OUTRAGEOUS. THEY MAKE IT SEEM LIKE IF THEY WERE A 5 STAR CLUB WHICH THEY'RE NOT. SO IF YOU WANT TO HAVE A GOOD TIME AND NOT GET YOUR MONEY STOLEN DO NOT GO HERE. WORST PLACE EVER!!!!

FOR STARTERS THEIR PROCESS FOR PRICING DRINKS SEEMS TO BE A GUESSING GAME AS ONE BARTENDER WILL CHARGE YOU ONE PRICE AND THE NEXT WILL CHARGE ANOTHER PRICE FOR THE SAME DRINK. THE DJ SEEMS TO HAVE CHALLENGES AS HE IS UNABLE TO ACTUALLY PLAY DECENT MUSIC. THE WOMEN'S BATHROOM HAS NOT SEEN A CLEANER FOR GOD KNOWS HOW LONG. PLEASE LEARN FROM MY MISTAKES AND RUN.IT IS UNFORTUNATE THAT ZERO IS NOT PART OF THE RATING SCALE.

This bar has lots of seating (both at the bar and at tables). Happy hour all night on Thursdays.

Drinks were good! The suya was so delicious and the right amount of spicy! The staff were very polite and friendly! I ll be going back when next I m in DC!

A 8 oz drink equals the same price as a 32oz drink at this establishment. The owner called me a liar about the pricing and poured half my drink full of water before serving it to myself and out group. Drinks are watered down and overpriced. Owner is rude and needs to be replaced.

Plenty of TV's but no NBA League Pass. Crowd is actually mixed.

I had a great time with my friends on new years eve. They have great foods, service, and the place is of a good size. The crowd is mature, music is of variety just like the name "Mix". Restrooms were OK, and they had a person in there for service. Restrooms renovation will be great! Overall, had a great time and experience! I highly recommend!

I've been here before some time ago. I was just here a few weeks ago on a Tuesday/ Taco Tuesday, not sure if management or ownership has changed, because its definitely not the same vibe as before. Walked in wasn't greater by anyone, no chairs open at the bar so sat at a table. No waitress came around so I eventually asked the bartender so he said to order at the bar and he would bring it over. Ordered drinks and food....drinks weak, food just ok. Asked for 3 chicken tacos got 1 shrimp glad I noticed it because I have shellfish allergies. Good location but I will never be back. Thanks

Lovely ambiance. It's a pretty calm place so I like that. I've had two of their cocktails and they're quite yummy. I will say, unless it's during happy hour food pricing for this place seems to be a overpriced for the quality provided.

The cocktails and the bartenders are great and friendly. Nice atmosphere and Latino/Caribbean music! I don't come all the time but whenever I'm here I usually like it a lot

They don't have a menu for drinks so I got 2 shots of milagro tequila and that bill came out to 12$ each shot so a total of $24. A big rip off. Too much money for shots.

Enjoyed this place very much. Yes, it's noisy, but it is a bar, and essentially a sports bar at that. The noise is as excepted for the environment. The food was good and the beer list was acceptable. The service is very friendly, but at a snail's pace. Just prepare for that and hope that things improve. This is a great addition to DTSS, and I will be back.

Bartenders are really nice but its a little pricey.

The place would be good if it worked. They are seemingly always out of some crucial food or beer. It is good when you can get it but not outstanding enough to make me keep coming back.

(edited, date last month:) The food prep this time (2nd visit) was NOT together and the service was extremely slow - even from the door for table seating, early evening. Apparently, having new and short-staff that night was the reason for almost everything that panned out poorly.

Nothing fancy.. just be advised they charge a 20% gratuity on Friday and Saturday nights because "black people don't like to tip". You better off staying home..

I loved the atmosphere and our bartender, Jacob, was excellent. He provided a fun and welcoming environment. He was on top of his game with our food and drinks. The guacamole burger was delicious. The place was relaxing. I guess we were there before Happy Hour. I'll definitely come back!

Decent spot in downtown Silver Spring but very small. Had a different perspective as I was performing with a band. Was not ideal because of the size but more importantly where I had to setup was a hole in the ceiling dripping water! Beyond that the atmosphere seemed cool and the food looked good, but can't say how it was as I didn't have a chance to eat. Maybe I'll go back under our circumstances...

The band was excellent. The food was delicious. The environment was safe.

The Ivorian food was ridiculously tasty and the chicken was so well done. The food evoked memories! I will definitely be frequenting this place again. I am excited to explore every item on this menu. Uncommon that they don't have a cocktail/drinks menu, but if you know what you want I am sure they can whip it up for you. I got a mean henny coke!

I didn t expect to but I actually really liked this place, went on a Sunday so it was quieter but the DJ was great, the bar tender was really friendly, everywhere was clean .... the food though can be a lot better. Still it was good vibes and if you need a quieter spot with a partner then this is the place .

Mixed drinks are small, weak, and expensive. One time I went and they were just out of a bunch of food, like maybe the manager forgot to keep the kitchen stocked. I've never tried to order food since that day. The decor is a confusing mix of upscale and club. Sometimes the djs are good, but more often they are not. Not a well-managed establishment, in my opinion.

Apparently they allow smoking inside even with security in close proximity. It's 2:08 for niceness Satudays and we got a table. The table beside us is smoking a blunt.

Also, we asked for water. And was told we have to go to the bar for that. Although 2 tables next to us clearly had water served in a carafe.

If you get a table , which seems to start at $190 You must pay the establishment (not the promoter) in cash. There is a capital one atm one block away.

Cool for watching sports, lots of large tvs. Good appetizers - but it can get crowded fast on the weekends.

The total worse service imaginable. I planned my birthday brunch here last Sunday at 1pm and when I get there the place was still closed. There was only one person who seemed like the custodian and then they asked us to stand and wait outside. I ended up having my brunch at Society and thankfully there were able to accommodate my group of 15 last minute. I will never step into this place again
