Update: Less than 1/2 hour after my below post I re keyed a call from the Operation Manager, Katherine, who had been notified of my review. She apologized for our issues and then moved us to a beautiful suite for the remainder of our stay. We also received some cheese, chocolate covered strawberries and wine and phone call from the head chef who apologized for the food issues. I have to say they have gone out of their way to make our stay enjoyable. Thanks to all.

We are currently 4 days into our week long stay at Mission Point and honestly we have had to convince ourselves not to leave pretty much every day we have been here. >First the good news. The one shining star from trip so far has been Colleen, the morning food manager. She has gone above and beyond almost daily to try to help up enjoy our trip. Now the rest of the story.
Arrived at about 7pm on Saturday with our dog and found our room in the Straits Lodge and I walked down to the restaurant (term used loosely) and ordered a couple burgers medium well. Walked back to the room and when my wife opened hers she cut it in half and the meat was cooked rare. Sunday ... After a cold night in the room (zero heat was on) went to the buffet, Thank goodness for the made to order omelet because the rest of the buffet was among the poorest we have been to. Basically none of the food was hot and even slightly beyond warm. Forget about a hot cup of coffee because we were told the coffee machine was broken and that they had to run to another area to get coffee. We spoke the Colleen about our burgers and she went out of her way and offered us a burger do-over during our stay. Made mention at the front desk about the heat and were told they would contact maintenance.
Monday ... another cold night with no heat, again stopped at front desk and reported the cold room. We arrived at the buffet and due to the cold weather we sat with our dog in the lobby area, nothing like eating on a table a foot below you chair. Met our savior Colleen again and mentioned the heat in the room she immediately went to the front desk and reaffirmed that it would be taken care of. She returned and apologized and then offered us 2 dinners to help us. Upon returning to our room we were met by maintenance and we had HEAT! We returned for dinner my wife ordered pork chops and when they arrived that we so dry they were not edible and she had to switch to a chicken dinner.
Tuesday (today) ... Wife decided to sleep in so I went to breakfast alone, again thank goodness for the omelet because the food was the same. Before leaving I asked for a menu to take my wife back a carry out and was informed that they no longer had anything other than the buffet for breakfast. Wife had to settle for a danish and yogurt for her breakfast that I bought at at the coffee shop. Rainy cold day today so hanging out in our room so I have the trek back to the restaurant for lunch. I ordered a cup of chili which came in a coffee cup, not bad but hot food is defiantly hard to find here. My wife ordered a grilled chicken salad and asked for the grilled chicken on the side so the hot chicken would not wilt the lettuce. Yes the chicken was grilled, but we think it was grilled who knows when and stored in the refrigerator and then just served because it was cold, not luke warm cold but refrigerator cold.
So, after lunch I decided to post this report ... partly to vent and partly to put things down in writing because there are so many issues I won t be able to remember them all by the time we leave.
After our conversations with employees it seems like most have had little to no training, many of the wait staff have never waited tables before and more than once I have heard . Just a minute I m new to this job . This is our 4th and probable last time we will come to Mission Point. With the amount of money the rooms cost here we expect much more than a bed and a great view.

Good customer service and excellent coordination with Sheplers where luggage gets tagged at Sheplers and delivered to the hotel and vice versa. The customer service actually improved after the new owners took over four years ago. Glad to see bike rentals available at the resort. However they did a bad job renovating the rooms in the straits lodge. We always get the room with the hot tub. The rooms used to be spacious with vintage furniture and decor. Now the rooms have less space and counters and no vanity mirror. The closets also have shower curtain like fabric instead of wooden doors. The bathroom is a tight fit with just a toilet and a tub and no sink. Sinks are in the bedroom and the living room area. The pullout bed in the living room area is smaller and not comfortable. The newer hot tub temperature does not exceed 104 degrees vs. 120 degrees previously and it has less jets in it. So my wy wife and I wondered is this what they call renovation? It seems to be a downgrade and we were really disappointed. For almost $700 a night for a holiday weekend for 4 of us including breakfast and ferry tickets, they should provide exceptional experience and not disappointment. Mission Point has been our favorite spot for over 20 years but we are seriously considering other accommodations when we stay on the island.

Just had my wedding here and could not have had a better experience. There was no air conditioning, but its Michigan so lets be real. The staff was very nice and the wedding went off without a hitch. Its a little far off of main street but that has its advantages as the night wears on and the people get louder. All and all we will be coming back for anniversarys to come.

Mission Point Resort is under new management in 2015. You will love it here. They have a gorgeous property with TONS of places to hang out and dine. I have photographed a large amount of Weddings in the past and I am excited to see the upgrades as Mission Point continues to be a location of choice on Mackinac Island, Michigan.

We stayed Oct 5-7th with our pup and enjoyed our visit and I appreciated everyone participating in social distancing. All the staff was friendly and welcoming our dog. We were surprised to see a pet bed in our room and a welcome gift for her too. We met Nick and chatted with Pat about the gorgeous resort! If you re looking for a place to stay, I would recommend this resort!

The rooms, though a bit small, feel very warm and inviting. The food has been delicious. The views are nothing less than ethereal. Above all, the staff has been nothing short of generous. Wonderful. Lovely. There may not even be enough words to describe how amazing the staff has been. They are such a personable staff without fail. They've given me nothing but reasons to smile and relax. The staff of a place of hospitality is what makes or breaks a place and the staff here makes the Mission Point hotel shine as bright as the sunsets on it.

Stayed her for a night with my boyfriend. Let me tell you, it was wonderful. I purchased the Opening Day package on their website and it was a very good deal. Included in the package was 2 adult ferry tickets(there and back), 2 half day bike rentals from their bike rental store( we used them to get a tandem for a half day), and a free buffet breakfast at their round island restaurant. All of this plus a nights stay in a spacious queen bedroom for around $230 taxes included. Pretty good deal considering ferry tickets are $26 per adult and bikes are $10-12 an hour, $40 tandem for half a day. All things considered and Mackinac being a pricey area, I think the deal was very nice. Not only was this place cost efficient but it was very beautiful and classy. The gardens are wonderful and so are the grounds. It could be comparable to the grand hotel in scale and in beauty. In fact i think some of the old movie, Somewhere In Time was filmed on the grounds. I would stay here again in a heartbeat. They only draw back I can see is that it is slightly farther away from down-town as opposed to other b&b's. But the walk to the resort is beautiful and the views are gorgeous. Also it is more tranquil than staying in the downtown area. Less noise if you are looking for quiet.

Very disappointed in this place, stayed at nicer places for a quarter of the cost. $400 a night for a window air conditioner and no refrigerator in the room. Spent $10 on 2 water bottles in the room because the vending machines were empty of water on all 3 floors. The hallways were unbearably hot, which made the room hot and the air could not keep up. Won't be back!

The wall unit air conditioner not only didn't work but was not put in the window effectively, so there were hole where mosquitoes came in. I was bitten in our room all night long. The bathroom for the suite for five people--the one and only bathroom--was the size of a portapotty. There was no hairdryer. The sinks are in the actual rooms. The bathroom is just a tiny toilet and a tiny shower. The walk to the main building to the falling apart building behind the main one where they put us is so long. This is honestly the worst experience I have ever had at a hotel spending so much money. Stay away from this place. It looks great in the pictures but they only show you the main clubhouse--bait and switch. We will spend over a thousand dollars to be here a few nights, and I stayed in better hostels in Europe when I was a kid backpacking around with no money. The staff is so rude. I called down to explain at 3 am that there were bugs biting us and we could not sleep, and they said oh well it's an island! I just pray we haven't gotten bedbugs too. This place is an absolute dump. Avoid it like the plague. You probably think I am exaggerating. I assure you, I am not exaggerating even a little.

The doors stick, you have to slam it several times very hard just to get the door to close.
The hot water went out on the second day and couldn t shower.
Only some of the rooms had refrigerators, ours did not.
Just not worth the money they charge.

Horrible service! I called to check price on their room and told them I would call back to book. Called back about an hour later, said I wanted to book what we discussed, the room and price changed, so I told the lady let me ask my wife real quick if she is ok with 2 double beds that they were offering and then she just hung up on me. I called right back after being hung up on and she sends me to a recording saying reservations are closed for the night call back tomorrow. Reservations close at 7pm and it was 6:45 pm, she did not have to hang up on me. never had anything so rude before and I was being completely polite, and I never have left a bad review to anyone before just feel like people should know what kind of people work there. Stay away, I am booking elsewhere

Stayed 2 nights. Hotel was nice and clean, room was clean, bed was comfy, service was friendly. Reason for the 3 stars NO HOT WATER BOTH MORNINGS!!!!

it would be back on about 10am (9am on day two which was better) but we wanted to wake up early at like 8 and shower thn see the island, well throw that shower plan out the window or take an ice one.

If they would just fix the issue of running out of hot water in the morning they would be a 5 star place.

our room was nearly $400/night

our room was nearly $400/night
not clean,
greasy hand prints on walls
looked like the last guest exploaded a bottle of champaign on the wall
stains on carpet
the grossness where the bed met the boxspring near the head board was matched with broken sunglasses and hangers sticking out between them

where do I post pictures

I talked to front desk, they said they would have had a manager contact me, that has not happened.

Nice historic place. Food is pretty good not the best (ex breakfast buffet didn't have pancakes or waffles and omelette were pretty basic) Grounds are nice but one heck of a walk to the lobby if your in the side building. Seriously about 0.2 of a mile. Rooms are nice but you can hear everything in every room around you. I expected some due to the age of the building, but it was pretty hard to sleep. All in all a pretty good way to spend the stay.

The outside is beautiful. The interior is outdated and kind of dirty looking. The hotel room was cramped, not functional, outdated, and loud. So basically the surroundings and exterior are gorgeous but everything else did not meet expectations.

A great place to stay and dine! Wonderful dining options (skip their brunch, however, weak!)... Chianti Restaurant is one of the best on the island for food, wine and top service!

Family friendly, pet friendly, clean, well-managed (although the reservations staff need better training and supervision)...

Tons of things to do on premises (theater, spa, pool, museum/gallery, tennis, bike rentals and more) and around the island. Conveniently located, yet away from the Main Street hussle. Highly recommend!!!

My husband and I stayed here for our first wedding and anniversary and the staff were very accomadating. We found a deal on Groupon so our room was a little small, but we expected as such. The staff were helpful with handlign our luggage as we got to the Island a little earlier than our check-in time. If you want to be closer to town or mind walking this may not be the hotel for you, but it's on a quiet part of the island and the views are wonderful! I will be back.

This place is too cool. It's a really nice hotel on the island that doesn't cost a small fortune to stay at. It's haunted. Random stuff happens all the time. But we didn't have any issues. Lights flicker, noises. But it's also a really old hotel so who knows for sure? Bed was amazing.

Our stay at Mission Point was incredible! We held a corporate retreat and it could not have gone any better. Jen L. and the entire staff were amazing, the food and service were phenomenal and the resort was the perfect blend of old and new elegance. I highly recommend Mission Point for both personal and business use.

My wife and I travelled to Mission Point for our Honeymoon. We booked the Maritime Suite for a week and had many surprises upon check-in; such as: the fireplace shown in the photos is deactivated, the room's balcony is accessible and often traversed by other guests, there is no room service at the resort, the A/C in the room consists of two box fans and the constant noise of people walking above your suite was bothersome.

While the suite is decorated well and the bathroom (not shown) is fairly large; we decided that the room is not worth the $495 a night price tag. Furthermore, the food at the resort rivals that of an average bar. We won't waste that amount of money there again and we warn you of doing the same.

View was great and the room was nice. Beds are super comfortable and the added refrigerator was desperately needed. Manager at the spa was rude to our family member, so we decided not to use this visit. Sorry but a manicure should last more than an hour, especially for what they charge. Food at Round Island bar was not good, but sandwiches at the coffee shop were tasty and reasonably priced. Service was excellent this visit, much better than last, but the food was not. We may stay here again, but will never sit down for dinner or use the spa, which is why you go to a resort with those amenities.

Out of town staff was very friendly while locals seemed annoyed with the visitors who knowingly pay an arm and a leg to visit the historic island and maintain it's upkeep during the off season months. With respect to the island vendors who do respect the nature of the visitors and maintain a fair price, this vendor/hotel was not one of them. At Mission Point you will pay for its reputable location and status but don't expect anything in return for choosing to stay in this historic hotel - they want your money anyway they can get it from the moment you get your keys. I presume this is how people with money expect to be treated or this must be how people that save all year want to be treated. Location is great [downtown but not in the center of it and the walk to and from downtown is wonderful], grounds are beautiful.

Got married there on monday. They reserved a block of rooms for our wedding party but put it on opposite side of hotel which made it a pain for setting things up for the wedding. Wedding coordinator only contact us 1 time during our stay right before ceremony, we had to call for everything which didnt make us feel confident. Food was good. The rooms were decent sized and clean.
