This was one of the worst dental experiences ever,...
This was one of the worst dental experiences ever, and they didn't even end up working on my teeth.
I was referred here by a gum specialist, who was referred by my dentist, for a mysterious bulge in my gums. The gum specialist (who was nice and will remain nameless so as not to draw him into this mess) said that the bulge was infection, and that it couldn't be saved, so he referred me to Mid Ohio Oral Surgery to have it extracted.
I had an appointment at 3:30, and arrived around 2:30 because I happened to get out of work early. Even then, I didn't get called in until about 4, and that was just for an X-ray...I had to sit in the filthy, decrepit waiting room that children thought was a play place for another thirty minutes before anyone even saw me. They then moved me into a dank room that wouldn't be out of place in a dungeon. Keep in mind the only time I ever had a discussion with any of these people was to set up the appointment...I NEVER had a consultation or anything else of the sort.
So I'm sitting in this ancient dungeon room (literally, the sink is controlled with your FEET to give you an idea how old it is) and then someone finally comes in. I'm expecting them to go over some things, or to double-check the gum specialists work. Instead, she just says, "Do you know you're here to have your tooth extracted with novocaine?" I said, "No I didn't. I was never told at all why I was here." Then another doctor comes in and says, "Well, if [gum specialist's name] says the tooth can't be saved, then it can't be saved." Then they proceeded to tell me they were yanking my tooth.
That was it. Someone MIGHT have briefly looked at my teeth, but they never went over X-rays, or anything else with me. Thankfully, right before I was going to be led into the extraction room, some woman comes in and informs me this service would only be covered at 60%. I guess it's good they at least had the decency to do that; and it also gave me an out. I took the opportunity to use that as an excuse and got the hell out of there.
The place is so old and filthy, I seriously wouldn't have been surprised if they used a rusted wrench to pull teeth. Best of all, I received a $210 bill in the mail! I'm assuming it's for the X-ray, even though I believe the gum specialist had already taken one. To be honest, I don't really care what it's for...they're not getting a dime of it, just as I didn't get a dime's worth of effort on their part. If you get referred here, ask for someone else.
