DO NOT DONATE HERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If I could give negative star ratings this place would get a negative10 stars. This place should loose its funding all together. from the moment I entered the parking lot I was feeling slightly encouraged that they could help me. There was a mural that said "Hope is here". Gospel music was playing in the overhead speaker. My husband and I entered and that was the end of my hopefulness. The receptionist was extremely rude and condecending. We had a two hour wait to be called for intake. (No big deal.) While we waited a man who waited 3 hours was skipped and told his name was called. He got frustrated and began to tell the receptionist she was mistaken. He got kicked out and wasnt given the help he desperately needed. The intake worker finally calls us and several others. She was extremely scatter brained, disorganized and unprofessional. She began to interrogate a gentleman seeking food for himself and his family. She refused to help him. After seeing the way she treated the people before us, we made the decision to leave and seek help elsewhere. I found a supervisor and complained to her and she apologized very weakly and said they were in "transition"and pretty much brushed me off and told me that she'd put me in the front of the line if I came back another day. The only Godly thing about that place was the music. Ive never in my life seen people who are already down on their luck so mistreated in my life. I will be filing a formal complaint with the organization that is in charge of them.

Very impressed with their operation. They effectively utilize volunteers to minimize the cost of labor. Also gives the community an opportunity to contribute. The main campus grounds are very nicely maintained for the residents who live there. Developmentally disabled adults were on site and seemed pleased with their work/contribution to the organization.

They also just sent me a tax receipt when I never donated anything.

Called metropolitan ministries to get food, but they wouldn't help me, because I live in my vehicle and do not have a home with an address. All I wanted was canned food to put in my cooler and granola bars. They directed me to a place on Nebraska ave for one meal a day. I am on a job call list for work. If I have to work for the next couple of days, then I have no food to eat until I get a paycheck, which could take a week. Thanks for nothing metropolitan. You people are absolutely worthless and have no intention of helping people who are going hungry. Very Christian of you.

I volunteer at metropolitan ministries every now and then. They're not mean, they don't yell and they give you a break as if you were their employee. I guess one reason people should volunteer at metropolitan ministries is to give back to the community and the other reason is... to eat (guilty ), seriously they serve high quality food there. (I forgot to take a picture before eating )

I had the opportunity to volunteer there with my company. There were four of us, we enjoyed ourselves immensely! We worked in the kitchen, helping the chef and helping out front as well. The people that work at Metropolitan ministries are to all be commended for what they do on a daily basis! If you have an opportunity, and are willing to donate your time, you should volunteer there.

I have got to say... With all the people who have ...

I have got to say... With all the people who have never needed help directing me HERE to get resources and assistance- i thought SURELY this facility could at LEAST give me answers and direction. Boy oh boy was I wrong! 1st experience- homeless and 7 months pregnant with my now 16 month old son, my fiance and I go to metropolitan ministries to ask for assistance with FOOD. We had been staying in motels off and on while we both worked trying to keep a roof over our heads. We waited at metropolitan for 5 hours before we spoke to who we thought to be our case worker. Without even the opportunity to explain our living situation she looked at our hotel receipts and refused to give us food. Her exact words being, "you ain't got no proof you have a refrigerator in there. It has to at LEAST be on your receipt." We then offered to call the owner of the motel, and we showed her Google earth photos of their sign that stated "microwaves and refrigerators in EVERY room". She still refused she said, " but I'll allow you to get a bag lunch." Even with me obviously pregnant! I approached another woman there, after she refused to help us, crying and begging for the box of food they provide for others (that i guess are MORE worthy) she spoke to her supervisor and omg... I was able to get the box of food after being there the whole entire day! God bless that woman. Needless to say i never went back for over a year. Second experience- i call ahead of time and speak to a sweet older lady. She tells me since I'm 3 days away from being on the street to come in and tells me what to bring. At this point in time my son who i was pregnant with my last visit to metropolitan was now about 6 months old and had been diagnosed with down syndrome. I had the same woman again, but rather than judge her for her unprofessional mannerisms my last visit i FINALLY was called back to her "cubicle with a door" along with another woman and her child. The worker sat me in the corner of her office while she conversated with the other woman and asked her questions. Assuming i would get the same respect and treatment i waited patiently. But at the end of OUR interview all this case worker asked me was "so what do YOU expect from me? You ain't got no family or nuttin' that can help you? Really? We don't have nothin that can help you NOW." The other woman she spoke to the whole entire time was staying with her sister and just WANTED to move out. We had no where else to go. And she was OBVIOUSLY not starving. But the case worker gave her a list of resources and neglected to give me the same and ended the "interview". Therefore I went upfront and explained the situation to the little old lady who provided me with more info than that racist cow EVER could or would have.
Its now been years later and I'll NEVER go back. And i recommend to anyone try elsewhere first!

This place does not help you when you really need it they literally put me and my kids back on the streets after seeking help because I didn't have all the documents they needed at the time, that I didn't even know I needed going in, but instead of giving me and my kids a place to stay and time to get all of these documents that I didn't even know mattered when your homeless with two babies and no where or no one to literally go to and me explaining all of this to them crying and telling them my story for nothing!!! and them telling t me I have to be on their waiting list just to get any help or any vochures. Also I was there for a whole 6 hours just to walk out with no hope and two sheets of paper and back on the streets with my babies... I find this so hard to believe and to understand being that this is a place of God it just cant be real. I'm highly upset and feel so hopeless.

My daughter was there for a year with her 5 kids. Just before she got a job and home they kick her out on the street. She was so up set she pack her kids in the car and drove to Michigan where she has no place to live and her parents can't help her there. They build peoples hope then kick them to the street. They don't help single moms they hurt them. Beware of wolfs in sheep's clothing.

Read a previous post here where an individual was provided food that was not sustainable for human consumption. This is very said to hear this disservice to the individuals that are struggling as is and need help.
As my wife is a director of a treatment facility and had offered this organization pallets of foods goods and drinks to help out in a time of need. The response my wife got was they were not interested in supply donations but only wanted to know how much money the company could give to them. Are you kidding me, it was pallets of pallets of FREE food that was turned down. Goes to show the true nature of this organization. I would never promote nor conduct business with this organization.

If you are needing help either as an individual or family, DO NOT EVEN BOTHER CONTACTING THESE PEOPLE!! I don't want to mention names but one of the ladies that I spoke with told me she couldn't help me or my family out (ranging from 8 WEEKS to 84 years old) because no place in Tampa has any openings and no one would take us out help us. I then proceeded to say that with all of Tampa resources no one can help? She said nope. And I said ok well then 7 of us will be on the streets and she proceeded to tell me that we wouldn't be the only homeless people like if that was supposed to help. She didn't even let me explain that I only needed it for a few days!!! Doreen, I hope your family never needs help. And if they do, I hope they don't get someone like you!! Because you had an attitude from the minute you answered that phone.

About Metropolitan Ministries

Metropolitan Ministries: Helping the Homeless and At-Risk Communities

Metropolitan Ministries is a nonprofit organization that has been serving the homeless and at-risk communities in Hillsborough, Pinellas, Polk, and Pasco counties for over 45 years. The organization was founded in 1972 by Reverend Morris H. Cerullo with a mission to provide hope, care, and compassion to those who are struggling with poverty.

The organization's vision is to end homelessness in Tampa Bay by providing essential services such as food, shelter, clothing, education, and job training. Metropolitan Ministries believes that everyone deserves a chance to live a dignified life regardless of their circumstances.

The nonprofit operates several programs that cater to different needs of the community. One of its flagship programs is the Outreach program which provides emergency assistance such as food boxes and financial aid for rent or utilities. The program also offers case management services where clients can receive counseling on how to improve their situation.

Another program offered by Metropolitan Ministries is the Uplift U program which provides transitional housing for families who are experiencing homelessness. The program aims to help families get back on their feet by providing them with safe housing while they work towards achieving self-sufficiency.

In addition to these programs, Metropolitan Ministries also operates several other initiatives such as:

- Holiday Tent: During Thanksgiving and Christmas seasons each year they set up tents where people can come pick up holiday meals.
- Food Pantry: They have multiple locations throughout Tampa Bay where people can come pick up groceries.
- Career Development Center: This center helps individuals develop skills needed for employment through workshops & training sessions.
- Bridge Builders Program: This initiative helps young adults aging out of foster care transition into independent living through mentorship & support services.

Metropolitan Ministries relies heavily on volunteers and donors who share its vision of ending homelessness in Tampa Bay. Volunteers play an integral role in helping run various programs offered by the nonprofit while donors provide financial support that enables it's operations.

If you're interested in supporting Metropolitan Ministries' mission you can make donations online via their website or sign up as a volunteer through their volunteer portal on their website too! Your contribution will go towards helping those who need it most within our community!
