The Memphis Zoo has become a premier example of a zoological park dedicated to conservation and education while at the same time being a wonderful place for family fun or a relaxing afternoon. Every time I visit, there is some new improvement to benefit the animals there. I heard the fishing cat trilling on my last visit - a sign of a happy cat indeed! The Memphis Zoo must NOT be missed when you are in town!

BEST! ZOO! EVER! I love how it is set up, love how it doesn't have sooo many places to pressure you into buying things like the St Louis zoo. I honestly would rather pay to enter over seeing more food and drink places than animals.

Memphis Zoo is so trifling. ridiculous and sad.!! Who ever decided to start serving Alcohol at the zoo is very unprofessional but couldn t even do a Fathers Day Special. The Memphis Zoo Administrations need to make better business decisions!!!

We were a little disappointed. They had a lot of animals out of their exhibits.

No Polar Bears, Jaguars, and all the Avians were out except the Toucans. We know exhibits have to be cleaned and maintenanced, but on a Saturday?

Maybe you should have a sign out front letting guest know what exhibits are closed. Friendly knowledgeable staff.

We drove from Chicago since we are on super lockdown for probably much longer. I felt completely safe at the zoo today. Workers were sanitizing things frequently and everyone visiting was well aware of the rules. I really hope other zoos follow suite. Yes mask was hot, but better than not enjoying the zoo at all. Thank you for doing everything you do for conservation!

Here's the best tip for the zoo, and as a member for 5 years I know what's up. Go in the morning or at closing time for the most active animal sightings! In the afternoon a lot of the animals are sleeping or hiding from the sun, but right before or after feeding time they're feisty, it's so cool to see! I think the zoo needs to work on the elephant area though, it seems too small for so many large creatures. New elephant exhibit!

This was my second time back to this zoo and it's by far one of my favorite zoos in the country. The exhibits are outstanding and the animals are often lively and seem to be well taken care of. The Tram is inexpensive and worth the ride.

Memphis Zoo was by far the best zoo experience my husband and I have ever experienced! We thoroughly enjoyed the zoo layout, the happy animals, and the day so very much. Our favorite animals are bears, so we were glad to enjoy so many different types (pandas, grizzly bears, polar bears, black bears, etc.) while we were there. I recommend going early in the day and/or scheduling your visit during your favorite animals' feeding times as they're full of energy and fun during those times. We're from St. Louis where there's a large, excellent, non-for-profit zoo program, and we still enjoyed the Memphis Zoo more. We'll be traveling to Memphis again just to visit this zoo.

This place is great! Prepare to spend all day though, the place is huge. Opens at 9am and closes at 5pm, I'd suggest you get there when they're opening to get to see everything.
They have penguin feeding at 3pm which is really cool to watch; they also have a polar bear! Near the polar bear they have bald egals, grizzly bears, white wolves, and elk.
I'm not going to spoil the zoo, it's one of the best I've ever been to. The food on the other side is a bit expensive but what can you expect? the food was good, I got the bamboo burger and I loved it, though the chips were not my thing.
A few paid things inside: you have the stingray area where you can feed and pet them, rid a camel, go on a train, feed giraffes, and more.
All in all I'd give more then 5 stars if I could, it's well worth the money and time.

The zoo itself was ok. Not much of it was functional, due to COVID19 which is understandable. I was pretty disappointed in the condition of the ponies. Both of them are too skinny and are on a sand lot. I inquired about the ponies, and it turns out they are quite old. I do know that horses tend to drop weight when they age, and it can be quite difficult to gain it back. I appreciate the zoo keepers taking their time to explain it to me, it shows how much they love their animals. This is a great place to visit with your family!

We live in Memphis so we come here a lot. It gets better year after year. They have recently upped their horticulture game so the plantings and containers are a whole other point of interest. The animals are cool too. ; )

Loved the zoo! Great price with plenty to see. We went on a rainy morning during the week. Not many people and it was great to see all the animals without a bunch of people to look over. There is a trolley that runs the entire zoo. The cost is 2 dollars and you get a pass for the entire day. This was worth the price. Could walk around for a while hop on the trolley to a new section without needing to walk. The first trolley driver sped through the park withour talking. The second driver gave a great speech about the animals in each section and what there was to see.

Loved the Memphis Zoo since a child. Every time I get a chance to go I make it a mission to be there. Today I learned that most Penguins live in tropical regions and I hope I get to learn more about other animals the next time I go.

A bit pricey at $18 per person and I think it's pretty rediculous they charge for 2 yr old toddler....please change to 5 years and older. Other than that, the zoo is nice and well kept for the most part. Nice variety of animals. Need to have free refills on drinks when buying souvenir cup but still no refills and it's $2 extra on top of the regular already high drink price........? Anyway, you can expect highway robbery at these kind of places like zoo's and amusement parks etc etc. next time we'll just sneak our own drinks in since the price gouging promotes it. Nice day however and we had fun.

As a non-Memphian, and having visited 15+ zoos in large and small markets, I can honestly say I was blown away by the animals they have in their ecosystem. Additionally, their zoo lights event during the holidays is a lot of fun. We have 2 kids under 2 and they loved it.

I do want to mention that the aquarium component of the zoo is deeply lacking and should be removed from their title as it s 98% land wildlife and 2% sea creatures.

This zoo is a must see! Probably one of the best I've seen. It has many places to eat it and several things to do within the park for children like pony rides. Get there in the mornings and leave by afternoon so you'll have thorough time to explore the park without feeling rushed. My nephew and I really enjoyed it. Gift shops are pricey of course but have so many great souvenirs. Great day trip if traveling from Mississippi.

One of the best zoos you can possibly visit. Any time I make it out to Memphis I try and go here. This last visit, they even had neat Lego animals on display. While it is always a great experience, it was made that much more special with that limited time addition. If you have around 4 hours to spend, this is the perfect place for you!

This zoo was awesome! The up close interaction you get is better than most zoo's we have been, and we have been to most of the top zoo's in the US. The reason they lost the star was because it seems as if this place is poorly managed. None of the staff seemed to know what was going on and at least three of the keeper talks were cancelled. Not only was it a major bummer planning around these talks to just have them not happen but what made it worse was no one came out to let you know so you just stand around waiting and waiting, what a waste of time. There were dozens of us each time. Walking and experiencing the exhibits was wonderful though and the price was very reasonable.

Loved the visit but we went on tues was suppose to be free and even checked to make sure online and we got there and they said no not in March. I wish they wouldve made that more clear on the website we drove 2hrs away to go and had to pay to get it in and plus parking. Loved the zoo, it was a great experience but the free tues thing is why my rating was 3 instead of higher.

I love zoos and visit as many as I can wherever I travel. The Memphis zoo is bigger than expected and the zoo is exceptionally clean. I love some of the enclosures and exhibits. Most of the zoo animals were out and about. I've never seen as many Giraffes at one time as I did today. Great zoo. Plus got a Memphis hotdogs popcorn and drink for 9$. Not bad at all. Bravo Memphis

This is such a fantastic zoo. Family oriented, free on Tuesdays, very reasonable annual memberships if you stay in the area. There's a tram to ride around the zoo if you or someone in your party has some difficulty being mobile or standing for too long. Lots of areas to stop and escape the weather, or cool off with some giant water fans on the walkway. My little family and I consider ourselves blessed to have such a great location to use for recreation and education.

There are always places at the zoo that could use an update. However, seeing the improvements that have made over the past 5-10 years, the care the animals receive, and the conservation efforts they are making really makes me proud. There was also plenty of room at the exhibits and plenty of room to move around. There are a couple of places where the kinda can get wet, you can bring your own picnic in, so you can really get your $ work by spending the whole day.

Memphis Zoo is an understated gem. It is highly recommended and totally worth the admission price. Lots of shade to walk in with several AC buildings to cool down in.

The exhibits are well done and the variety of animals is extremely high. This place ranks fairly high in mu favorite zoo's in and out of the USA.

If you find yourself in Memphis for the BBQ or the music...take a visit to the zoo and you will not be disappointed.

My 7-yr old daughter wanted to see the Lego sculptures for her birthday. She really enjoyed doing the feeding sticks for the birds (behind the Stingray pool). She also liked seeing the big cats at the Cathouse.

Very clean place. Will hold kids attention. Food shops and Drinks are available. Cool little displays set up. I suggest you go when it's cool outside so you can interact with the animals. It's a little pricey to accommodate the trip but it's well worth it. Please bring smaller kid a stroller they will be exhausted from the walk. They have limited supply of the red pulling wagons. Also offer a tour trolley ride for a small fee

This was a really fun Experience. Weather was nice and even though lots of people were there the areas were not crowded. The only negative thing about my experience is that we had to park in the grass because the parking was all full and got a nail in my tire in middle of vacation :(

We love coming to the zoo! It is always peaceful to walk around and check out the animals and exhibits. Last time in the bird exhibit the worker there took time to introduce us to the different birds, tell us all about them and share cool facts with us.

It was good, very big, lots of shows and chats. It could use a bus/tram schedule though. It took 2 hours to cover just half of the zoo. Loved the fact they interchanged the animals through the day

I have been going to the Memphis Zoo my whole life. It has changed and grown so much! Even when it is super.crowded, there is plenty to see and do! We love the new hippo house and aviary! You can feed giraffes and there is an awesome sea lion show as well! If you are passing through or live in the area, this is a must do activity for the family!

The Memphis zoo is one of the top zoos in the country. It was $15 each to get in, but it is worth it if you make a day out of it. The parking was $5. They have zoo memberships that are great if you like to visit frequently. They allow you to bring in food/coolers so you can picnic there or eat at their restaurant. Check their website for restrictions.
The day we went was a great weather day. It was not too hot and most the animals were quite active.

This place was not prepared to re-open. Long lines everywhere: 30 minutes to get in, 90 for lunch, 10 to check out at the gift shop. Bring patience or lunch if you're coming with small kids. Most everything is open though with the exception of the petting zoo, carnival-style rides, and some of the exhibits where kids can crawl in special tunnels to get a better view of things. Aquarium was not worth the wait.

Great place to visit. A very good selection of animals. More than one gift shop. Places to eat are convenient. And lots of educational activities. I try to visit often because it is relaxing, plus I get my exercise in.
