MedBar La Penthouse, Mediterranean Restaurant Review

I had one of the most enjoyable nights out thanks to the excellent atmosphere of the bar, playing the coolest tunes and credit to its friendly staff, giving recommendations for tasty drinks. Definitely a spot on cocktails prepared from fresh ingredients, the best I have ever tried. I totally recommend this place not only for an ordinary night out but for different occasions, as I am planning to make a reservation for my birthday!

Usually a good night but was way too busy to move on Saturday. There were far more people than the venue can hold and as a result the experience felt cramped and Claustrophobic. S

Good range of music. Good atmosphere. Only reason its not a 5 is because the toilets for how ever long its been are still bbit completed it looks like a building site still very random.

Lovely venue,nice music,great service and food. Cocktails and Mocktails are also a hit.

Thoroughly enjoyed my Saturday night in this bar, rockin and friendly.

Cocktails taste cheap. May aswell go to weatherspoons.

The only place in Southampton to get all three and more!

What a lovely place to spend an evening! Chilled vibe. Good music (chart / dance / 80s pop). The staff are the nicest I've ever dealt with. Very friendly and welcoming. The food is a mix of Spanish and Greek. I thoroughly recommend the halloumi wrap. Omg it's amazing! Incredibly affordable and very filling! My friend had the mixed grill and he said it was incredibly tasty. It was not your usual English mixed grill as it had a delicious marinade.

Was a great place, had great music, but wasn't impressed when a member of staff accidently dropped a glass on the bar (carrying to many) in both hands, and it smashed all over me. No apology, nothing, when my friend said she's bleeding look at her hands she went and got a tiny wipe and a plaster that really didn't look that hygienic. No first aid was offered. I was stood there for a while in shock, and getting tiny fragments of glass from my hands. Carried on the evening a while for my friend as it was her birthday. When I got home I had to wash my clothes as I had glass in tree and I had to have a shower. The next morning I was still finding little pieces in my feet (as I was wearing sandles) and my handbag and purse had clumps of glass in them. I've emailed and tried calling but not heard anything. Disappointed is an understatement.

It s happened this Sunday when we been kicked out from the club, and only because we try to move the chairs The ovner was so rude and he was swearing at all of as. We just want to have a good time like we always have in kizumba room but this is unacceptable. We are not been drunk or aggressive

Got chucked out without any good reason or warning along with braking glass on my hand leaving little scar of remembrance.

They have Latin dance nights every Sunday from 5pm till late night and it is a lot of fun

Very good food, reasonable price, nice music selection. When we arrived, there was no space but the manager kindly set a table for us. I definitely recommend Medbar. I would love to stay for dance but we had other plans. They also do Salsa dance.

Terrible service and rude staff. If you want proper customer service, never visit this place.

My food was nice, four of my friends had ordered the lamb chops and they all said that they were as tough as old boots . We mentioned this to the staff after we had finished our mains, and they said we should have told them sooner and they would ve re-cooked the lambs, but after waiting for nearly an hour for them after the starters everybody just wanted to get on with the remainder of the meal and move on.
we were given a free drink as compensation which was nice!
I should point out we were told that there might be a bit of a wait for food as they were busy, but having preordered our food we certainly didn t think it would ve been as long as it was.
As the meal progressed, it turned from restaurant to nightclub before our eyes which was a strange ambience to be in.
I for one will not be returning.

Had nice meal to start, seemed quiet and not many people there. However a couple of hours later after the dancing started it was absolutely packed with bouncers on the door. The only thing stoping 5 stars, and probably what people love, was the noise. It was so extreme that when we left it was ages before my hearing returned to normal and if you did want to talk at all you needed to shoot so loud that I'm losing my voice.
Staff were nice and good was very good. Would recommend it if you want to go.

I liked it more in the past, now the sound is rubbish, the atmosphere is so so.... it used to be a nice place to have a drink and to have fun, now it become an average place.

Nicely renovated place. Great for Salsa nights on Sundays. Both floors are for dancing. One for kazumba (upstairs), downstairs salsa. Wonderful people.

Have just enjoyed a fab meal here. Well cooked, well presented and very tasty. Cocktails looked and tasted great and the waiter was charming. Atmosphere and music good. Totally recommend a meal here.

This is a hidden gem. Highly recommended. Excellent freshly cooked food and great service. Couldn't ask for more.

Uses vdjs and it seems to be a 80s throwback bar, not really my thing sorry

Here for a hen do several months ago. Sticky floors, incredibly expensive drinks but had clean loos and decent tunes

Great for Saturday's nights, 2 dance floors with different music. Very expensive cloack room though.

A little pricey but definitely good on a Friday or Saturday night, age range usually between 25 and 40 but definitely welcoming of anyone, also only a stroll from the gaybar or a casino for a late drink when it's last orders.

Rubbish don't bother worst for Christmas meal and not hygienic

My partner booked this as she had been here before.
My starter came to the table my partners didn't, we called the waitress over and pointed this out, they brought out her starter, cold and only half cooked so we sent it back.
Main course was delivered, rice was cold so sent that straight back, when we started to eat the meal it was cold, called waitress again and said I wanted to speak to the manager, a lady came over and said of course it's cold it's been on the table 30 minutes, I pointed out that the meal had been on the table less than 5 minutes, went to find the manager and was told the manager was not there, spoke to the supervisor and told him I was not happy and demanded a big reduction in the bill.
Not happy with this restaurant and would not recommend it!!!!

This is the best place I have been on weekends. Also, I love the latin night on a Sunday and the cocktails are just perfect <3

I cannot wait to come back from holiday and go and visit this place again. I highly reccomend it to everyone if you would like to try something different.

Great place staff friendly door staff need to chill out thou not everyone is there for trouble

Good little bar , caters for all music types depending on which evening you go in, freindly staff and a good selection of drinks

The food is really good and full of flavour and so are the cocktails.

The beers are great, music is good and the only place to hang out on a Sunday evening in Southampton if you like your Latin music. The refurbishment has meant lots of place to dance and the management ensure that the place runs smoothly without any trouble.

Is OK. Full of chav guys who are pumped up on beer looking to outdo everyone else. Wasn't very comfortable there. Nice place though

Food was excellent as well as the service, had a steak and it was well cooked medium rare. Mrs had the pro chops and a few cocktails and she was happy. Will visit again, great customer service, don't see much of that now days and everyone heads off to them new chained placed around west quay when locals should support small business like Medbar.

Lovely place. Great music. Can get a bit busy early on but if you stay till close youre guaranteed to have a good time.
