Huge place, very nice. Had restaurant trade show there and it was amazing
Large exhibition hall, beautiful scenery, beautiful snow by the lake in winter
One of the biggest convention centers I've ever visited.
Need better signs posted there are a lot of bathrooms downstairs or at the far side, huge convention center.
Chicago AutoShow was amazing! See Glendale Nissan if you're interested in a Nissan!
Magnificent place for conferences, specially RSNA. Highly recommended.
Always a big space and clean event with easy parking and a heated walkway! Car show didn't dissapoint.
Went to c2e2. It was a fun event. Not very handicap accessable. Needs more signage to the parking lots.
Very nice place for conventions, can become a bit crowded. But the views of the city are great as well.
It is too big. Trying to get parking when there is a major event is outrageous.
Update your bathrooms. Kind of embarrassing actually.
Well probably one of the best highlight to a wonderful city
We attended a volleyball tournament here. It was not crowded like other venues!
This is a great place to see the Auto show. This time taking the Metra Electric to the front door made it hassle free too.
Really nice place. Clean and lots to offer. Parking is a bit of a hassle but not too bad.
Loved it parking is close by and the convention we went was amazing. I've been to alot convention here and I never had a problem with anything here(knock on wood).
great venue, easy economic parking compared to chicago city parking garages..
Great place for a trade show, FABTECH was a good show for us.
For food recommendations for those there working the show all week, add some Mexican cuisine.
Ample spaces, connections with efficient shuttles, friendly reception with friendly people and willing to give directions and suggestions, immense spaces for conferences, breaks and refreshment areas
A very modern and avant-garde convention center with all the necessary amenities
I love do shows here, there is always a magic in the air.
Place is enormous, flew into Midway and right to the hall. Clean and we'll kept.
One of the finest convention centers on the planet. Massive but accessible. They've done a good job updating the old gal.
The View At The LakeSide Center No Other place. The East Building Has The Best Sun Rise Views In The World...
Nice convention center. Only complaint is that food services and restrooms are few and far between.
What a massive venue, great for hosting events like the Chicago Auto Show. Navigating through these massive halls can be quite a challenge. I wish there were more directions posted, hence I'm taking away a star.
It's hard to take in just how big this place is. I was blown away when I first walked in. The facility is very clean and well kept up. will definitely visit again.
Went there for the Black Women Expo. Very great discovery
Surprisingly a quiet visit to the 2018 Chicago Auto Show - Loved it
This place is ridiculously large and it's easy to get lost. If you don't have a good sense of direction, be sure to bring someone who does.
Massive conference with no obvious pedestrian access. I appreciate it is in America but surely walking isn't yet illegal. Pedestrian access to Solidiers Field (some kind of sports facility) from there to McCormick you end up walking on some road, disappointing.
Tight parking spaces, but the facility is clean and roomy.
Parking is very expensive for small events. Should consider the size of the event.
My favorite convention center because their SECURITY ROCKS!!!!
Had great experience attending the MAS convention.,
This place is huge. Like bigger than my mind can fully digest. Clean, orderly and easy to navigate for the show I attended. Docking two stars because their pricing fleeces attendees more than an airport.
Huge convention center.
A little confusing with entry/ exit on all sides, just have to pay attention to where you need to exit, or it means walking a very long way around. Otherwise, it has adequate bathrooms, meeting rooms, eateries, ATM machines, etc....
Excellent overall. Attended the Auto show in February 2017
Very nice, organized, cozy, & big. Very big so I recommend do not wear heels or wedges if you are not used to wearing them.
The East Building / Lakeside Center is an awesome, imposing Modernist structure that just screams Chicago. I can appreciate it for that. Beyond that - don't get lost in McCormick Place, it's huge. Remember which garage you parked in.
Great facility. The best exhibit hall in America. On the negative side, the bathrooms are filthy and the docks are disgusting all the time. Nastiest bathroom facilities ever.
They have the best setup for Basketball Tournaments! They need more food vendors in the establishment. My daughter sprained her ankle badly and the trainers didn't have the proper crutches for her. My husband had to carry her to the bus! Staff is good. Need more trash cans in the facility!
Large conference center located near downtown Chicago. I look forward to the Chicago auto show every year here.
McCormick Place Rooftop Garden: A Green Oasis in the Heart of Chicago
McCormick Place is a name that resonates with anyone who has ever attended a convention or trade show in Chicago. As the largest and most flexible use convention center in North America, McCormick Place has hosted countless events over the years, from political conventions to auto shows to medical conferences. But what many people don't know is that McCormick Place is also home to one of the city's best-kept secrets: a stunning rooftop garden that offers visitors a peaceful respite from the hustle and bustle of downtown.
The McCormick Place Rooftop Garden was created as part of an ambitious sustainability initiative launched by the convention center in 2007. The goal was to transform McCormick Place into a model for sustainable urban development, and one of the key components of this effort was the creation of an expansive green roof on top of one of its buildings.
Today, the McCormick Place Rooftop Garden covers more than 2.5 acres and features over 20,000 plants representing more than 100 species native to Illinois. The garden is divided into several distinct areas, each with its own unique character and purpose.
One section features raised beds filled with vegetables and herbs that are used by chefs at McCormick Place's restaurants. Another area showcases native prairie grasses and wildflowers, providing habitat for birds and insects while also helping to manage stormwater runoff.
Visitors can stroll along winding paths through lush gardens filled with colorful blooms or relax on benches overlooking Lake Michigan while taking in stunning views of downtown Chicago's skyline. Interpretive signs throughout the garden provide information about sustainable landscaping practices as well as details about specific plant species.
But perhaps what makes the McCormick Place Rooftop Garden truly special is its role as a living laboratory for sustainable design practices. The garden serves as a testing ground for new technologies such as green roofs, rain gardens, permeable pavement systems, and other innovative approaches to managing stormwater runoff.
In addition to providing an oasis for visitors seeking respite from city life, this green roof also helps reduce energy consumption within McCormick place by insulating against heat loss during winter months while reducing cooling costs during summer months through evapotranspiration processes which cools down surrounding air temperatures naturally without using any energy-intensive equipment like air conditioners or fans.
The rooftop garden has received numerous awards since it opened in 2008 including recognition from Green Roofs For Healthy Cities (GRHC) which named it "Green Roof Project Of The Year" award winner at their annual conference held in Boston back then; it has been featured on national television programs such as PBS' "Growing A Greener World" series; it even made headlines when former President Barack Obama visited during his time at office!
In conclusion,
The McCormick place rooftop garden stands out not only because it provides visitors with breathtaking views but also because it serves as an example for how cities can incorporate sustainable design practices into their infrastructure projects without sacrificing aesthetics or functionality.
It’s no wonder why this hidden gem continues attracting tourists worldwide who want nothing but peace amidst nature’s beauty!
