Matza Ball soup and half a Rueben. Delicious and love being able to get half sandwiches. Good service and a great deli counter at checkout. I ended up with cookies and soup to take home!

Order 4 items from Max's and 1 item had extras missing. We called and the rude hostess said "The kitchen made it and it's not here so you have it." She treated us like we were trying to scam them for a little bit of chicken and noodles that goes into a soup. Then she said "Well I'm not going to argue with you for 30 minutes on the phone." Well you got it wrong so why are you arguing anyway? She claimed to be the manager and said she could not even refund us for the item. The "manager" can't refund an order? They don't need our business but they surely won't get it again. This place doesn't have glowing reviews for a reason. Keep your distance from Max's

I have never been treated so rudely before by anyone! The owners were rude and disrespectful when I requested to wait for my friend and asked for a table towards the back.
I will never step foot in Max's again nor will any of my friends or family !
Max's does not even deserve 1 star!

If you like standing around watching many employees chat and not take your order for over five minutes, then this place is for you. Can t tell you about the food because the lack of service caused me to walk out and go to the place next door. It s pretty good (Mizrahi Grill)

I overheard a customer nicely sharing a service issue with the older owner on a Saturday afternoon and rather than saying sorry or thank you for letting me know
the owner said in a rude and dismissive tone to not come on a Saturday if you want good
Service. Everyone will be better off going someplace where owners value nice customers.

Have not been to Max's much in the last few years but I'm under the weather and needed some chicken soup so I called for Mish mosh for pick up. Worst ever. Mostly broth with very few noodles and vegetables, only one dumpling. I usually get several servings out of the container but end up adding broth to the other ingredients. This batch I will need to add everything but broth. Not worth the almost $11 I paid for it. Next time I will make the drive to Northbrook to Max and Benny's. Miss the old Max's.

The good: the service was polite and attentive.
The bad: the food. The knishes were not good and the kishke wasn't, either.
The ugly: the gravy. What was it?! It was insanely lumpy and we pulled a noodle out of it.

Service was a little slow, but they were busy on a weekend. Not many trimmings to offer with the sandwiches, so I found that disappointing. But the sandwich was really good. Would have been higher if I could have loaded many sandwich up with more.

We just had an awful experience a to go order. We got home and realized that one item from our order (4 items) was missing. We called back thinking it would be an easy fix and the manager that answered the phone was RUDE basically implying that we were lying to her to get a free meal. Sorry but the chicken and noodles from my soup were missing! After the woman said that she didn t want to sit on the phone and argue with us and that she wouldn t give us a refund for our missing meal we went back and picked up the part of the order that was missing. They will never get our business again. We have ordered countless meals and even had catering from there before but never again!!!

Just left. Never enough help here. Ordered a three veggie omelette but instead of broccoli I got mushroom. No big deal.
Told waitress about it and she brought me a plastic cup with raw broccoli in it. Ok... person ringing us up didn t ask how our meal was. No management in sight. Who is running this place? My coffee cup also had a bunch pieces of paper towel on it...thanks for 35.00 breakfast that was not worth it :(

Do not eat here. This restaurant has a dark heart. They don't care about you. I've eaten here a few times and I finally had enough. I wanted to like this place I really did and I tried. I'm not sure how this place is still in business. Every time I've eaten here I have felt insulted. You want to feel like family and have some home cooking made with love? Go to Max and Benny's and save yourself the humiliation and frustration.

UPDATE : Owner took constructive criticism left in my prior review, and my most recent visit here (4/10/18) was lovely! Had the server I previously expressed concerns about, Marilyn, and it was a 180 degree turn for her. Our busboy was super attentive and noticed I was struggling with a couple carryout containers and swooped in with a bag for them.

Since the restaurant has come under new management (ousting the prior owner that posted some inappropriate stuff online), the atmosphere has changed - staff seems more helpful, quick service, very generous portions. I'm always amazed at the quality of meats they use, from the steak sandwich, to deli meat, to the chicken in their chicken fingers, and the ground beef in their burgers. Beware, there apparently are two versions of menus, so diners may have different ones even if seated at the same table. They look alike but one has a few additional items.

Side note: One woman who works there, middle age or so, maybe related to an owner or just a long time employee, gives customers a hard time ala Ed Debevics - meant, I'm sure, in good humor, but can come across as rude and condescending at times. All other staff interaction has been exceedingly pleasant and free from this attitude. One star removed from my review due to this today (3/20/18) - down from 4 stars to 3.

I wanted to like Max's Deli, who wouldn't? I've been to Max's three times. The first time about a year ago, back then I liked the food, although nothing too special, but something wasn't right. It seemed like the wait staff was lackadaisical (Lacking enthusiasm and determination; carelessly lazy.) The second time, a couple months ago, the two of us were seated at a table meant for 6...not sure why because there were plenty of tables for two that were empty. Our waitress didn't show up so after about 10 minutes we decided to seat ourselves at a table for two nearby. The host didn't seem to appreciate that too much. Strange vibe. Our waitress finally showed up and brought coffee and a basket of bread items, but no butter and no cream or sugar. We waited to ask her for them but she didn't show up so we took the items from a nearby table that had vacated. Needless to say on that visit our service was not good. But we went again a couple weeks ago, this time I brought two of my sons. Again, the service was bad. The waitress brought out my toasted onion bagel and forgot the cream cheese, it took forever to even get her attention about it. I turned the bagel over and the onions were charred black. I called the host over to the table (Joey Morelli), I showed him the black and charred bagel top and he said that's the way they make it and it's delicious. Really? I don't make mine like that. His attitude was arrogant and condescending. Instead of offering to make it to my satisfaction he walked away while I was in mid sentence. He then began complaining to another table right next to us, complaining about us! Unreal. When I went to pay my bill I asked the person at the register about the host, he told me that Joey treats customers rudely and the staff horribly. No wonder the service is bad and the food is second rate. I'll never go back there.

Everything you d want in a traditional, high quality deli. Great sandwiches, house made breads/soup, breakfast items. Even the burger reminds one of a nice tasty grilled burger from Barnum and Bagel. The staff works hard and tries to provide the best service. Joey the owner is pleasant.

Something for everyone. Matzah ball soup was great. So was the matzah brae with salami. They even had Passover sponge cake for dessert. Can't wait until Passover is over. They also have fresh rolls and bagels with all kinds of toppings.Yum.

RUDE!! Lousy staff who cannot credit a coupon and then have the tenacity to act like we were budging the line when first arriving to the restaurant. There is an order pickup and a cash register we were at the cash register to pay. Not budge the pick up line.

Fantastic deli that brings me back to my childhood. If you haven't been here it's certainly worth a visit if you're in the area. The Matzoball soup is delicious! Every time I'm sick I'll get some of their matzoball soup and bring it home. The cookies are yummy and they have a wide variety of classic deli food you would expect from a Jewish style deli. Most of the food on their menu is fantastic, but their menu is so large you really need to know what is good. Being adventurous with their menu is usually not a good thing. It's a solid classic deli but their menu could use a few renovations.

I don t believe or understand the low ratings here. Everyone I talked to was extremely knowledgeable and cordial. Everything from the pickles on the table, to the bialy in the bread basket, to the Perfect amount of dill inside the matzoh ball in the comforting, mellow flavored chicken soup was outstanding. The absolute best chopped liver and pastrami anywhere in the Midwest! These places are disappearing in our country and we need to patronize them so they do not vanish.

Food! Large menu of traditional deli food. Delightfully staffed by friendly waiters. Big bakery selection but get there before it's all gone because it is all made fresh every day. Plenty of seating and parking.

Max's Deli is a Jewish deli. A fine place to eat for quick and relatively cheap food.

I ordered Eggs Benedict. They were good, but nothing extraordinary. With every meal you are served a basket of assorted breads which was very nice.

My parents ordered a Pastrami Sandwich to share. The server split the sandwich for them and brought them on separate plates. Was a very nice gesture.

I had the saltiest salt bagel I've ever had from this deli. I ended up brushing off a ton because it was almost inedible. Other than that it wasn't a bad bagel. The whitefish salad was good and seemed fresh. I wish they would just spread the salt out a little further instead of concentrating it all in the middle. The employees I encountered seemed friendly enough.
