We spent 15 days in the Marriott.

In its essence, your hotel room is all about the bed. My husband stated he woke up from his sleep feeling as if someone had punched him. Our bed was an old spring mattress, not pillow top, which sagged a little in the middle. By the 5th night, I joined my husband in pain. The bed is a euphemism for the entire hotel, seems ok... Sagging a little in the middle.

The bedrooms are fine, boast a chest of draws and a wardrobe. They also come with a 15 GBP per day internet connection fee ... I kid you not; you must pay 15 quid a day for internet! Something that is free elsewhere. They will tell you that it is free in the common areas. This does not really help you when you are in your room, in your unmentionables and need to send an email. However, you may welcome the break from the stifling heat of your bedroom, because the air conditioning does not work. Some nights it was 80+ in our bedroom and we fell asleep to the soothing sounds of the A14 and woke up with backache in a pool of sweat.

For some undiscernible reason, they decided to change all the plugs in the bathroom from 3 prong to 2 prong. They then want to charge you 12 quid for an adapter. Strange. Stranger still is the lack of mini fridge, etc. Which is pretty much custom in most big hotel chains. I think this is because they want you to spend a whopping 15, yes 15 quid a day on breakfast, which clearly shows an evil genius on behalf of the hotel.

The common areas are nice. The bar, gym, etc. are all very nice. They also have some rooms where free tea and coffee can be snagged. We would wander down there and grab some free drinks before we went somewhere else and ate breakfast. The bar is not that expensive and it is nice to have on site, because you are literally in the middle of nowhere. The staff is very nice. It's not their fault that the powers that be did not invest in decent beds!

If I had to do it all over again, I probably would have skipped this and gone to a B&B.

I recently joined a friend for a coffee and we could not get comfortable! The choice of tables were either hard chairs or really low sofas and tables. Staff were super lovely and kind though. If we could have got comfy I m sure we would have stayed for lunch

Hotel in itself is fine, the ridiculous drinks prices and lack of ice at every event we attend there is beyond a joke for a major event venue, warm drinks don't cut it. Food is great though!

An uninspired exterior (think brown, square, block of bricks) sits next to what must be one of the polluted areas of the country: the A1/A14 intersection at Spittals Junction in sunny Huntingdon. Ideal for travelling businesspeople, I hear you say; but only those who like queueing up in traffic to reach or depart the hotel, on one of Europe's busiest roads. But that's not necessarily The Marriott's fault. Inside it's everything you expect a Marriott to be. The very definition of overpriced mediocrity. Some of the staff are excellent.
