I was a student here very short lived. I was a single parent. The parent dorms were decent. I would not recommend it for anyone that is not a drop out, drug user, or anything of that nature. They look at everyone as if that is the case.

There are tons of obstacles you will be faced with, and it is hard to get out of. But expectations should not be high. To be a student at any job corps, you need to have a strong mindset. You will witness so much! Especially students with kids. But I d encourage you to get through it. You will be teaching yourself everything. Book work!

Flint Hills Job Corp has done very little to salvage its reputation.

The majority of its graduates are refused employment, almost universally, based on their choice to attend this 'trade school'. The facility itself is more akin to a delinquent center than an educational facility, and is ran and overseen as such.

Students are required to consent to random searches, enforced curfews, and irregularly enforced 'punishments'. Which are portioned out in a severely biased fashion.

Normally based on personal dislikes from the faculty and less for any actual infractions.

If at any time, a student is found to be troublesome, they are often 'termed', a not so subtle expulsion. Then summarily charged for services (not) rendered and expected to pay a number of fee's and fines.

On the off chance that a student actually manages to stick through the scholastic (high school equivalency) and trade (of which the number are dwindling) classes, they are likely to be forcibly graduated and removed from the campus.

An increasing number of these students either do not receive their "incentives" (cash assistance for a home/ transportation while they acclimate to their new career) and are left homeless and without any funds, or are refused additional training in their career choice, and similarly dismissed.

This program prays on innocent (and occasionally not so innocent) young people,
I, for one, feel its business practices merit an in depth investigation for fraud, but as it is, they will likely run out of funding and simply be closed down.

Best choice of my life hands down. So much good to say that I can't write a review at this moment because it would take AWHILE! Changed my life in the best way, something I would never change or give up! Set me straight and gave me valuable life lessons I could have only learned from such a place. Give it a chance, you won't regret it. Flint Hills is A++. Always has been, always will be.

The drama and negativity will hook you in but if you focus on your schooling and your future there no where to go but up they are helping me start my nursing education and get LPN for free while providing housing and meals along with a little extra money every other month its not the best but what federal funded situation is but its a tool to make a mark on the world that can either be used or thrown away. But I am using it to my every advantage until they kick me out

Job Corps

Job Corps
Review
A lot of students have noticed from being here or from completing here and one of the things that they have noticed that whatever trade they get into the instructors are amazing for helping them with their projects, work or final exam like Dental state boards or CNA state boards. Some students a lot of times come here for high school, to get their driver s license or just trade but the students come here with many purpose. Being a new student on campus can be scary but fun at once, once you have been here for a week or the night you come here it will not see so bad. You will meet some friends but the main reason for being here is to learn that doing the trades here is blessing well learned not only is it work it but if you are wanting a job and wanting to be more experienced don t just do high school and be done which is what a lot of the students say do trades as well for an experienced skills for whatever job you may find down the road. I m taking the CNA trade but first thing is that you have to make sure that you have passed Health occupations which is work book and learning what you have read so that way when u go to the CNA class you know what you are doing. Not only is it fun to be in this it give you experience on how to take care of people a whole lot then the student know clinical is 3 to 4 weeks depending on the schedule but the whole trade together is 3 to 6 months. The Dental trade is where you go in a teacher teaches you everything about how to take care and clean peoples teeth so when you go to Dental clinical you will be practicing on each other on how to properly take care and clean teeth, this trade is 9 month to a year depending on how fast you work some people get done with this trade quick but all of the state boards have 100 questions for 2 hours but I do recommend that students work one on one with the teacher if they are willing to pass the state boards. We offer night school not only for the high school student but for whatever trade you decide to go into it is the best thing to do to get done with trade or high school quicker night school is Monday Tuesday and Thursday. Job Corp offers a whole lot of learning then most student give if you focus on schooling and nothing else you will notice but appreciate when you graduate or complete that Job Corp have you job skills that you have to know your job. Everyone s first day here is nerve racking because when you come onto campus you have a lot to do before you come into trade or high school. You have new student orientation, career prep 1 and 2 then new student breakfast but the student that have been here for like 8 months or so are willing to help out all of the new students as much as they can.

Job Corps is what you make it...it can make you or break you. Because Job Corps is for those who want to leave their darker past to improve themselves for a brighter future...you have to stop hanging out with people who bring you down with their "recreational" activities and focus on yourself. You need to have a drive to improve yourself, the desire to be better than you were yesterday...some people may disagree with me but most of the reviews only show a small fraction of what happens at Job Corps because sure you're going to encounter drama here but that's everywhere you go and the types of people you chose to hang out with...Job Corps has the capability of changing lives like it did mine, you just have to put in hard work...because twice the effort equals half the necessary time to get to your goal but half the effort can only result in twice the time to get to your goal.

it ain't too bad if you stay focused , learned alot ,got stuff done, people are chill , just got to avoid the ones who cause drama,
Ged , and high school programs seem good too , on your own pace really , it's what you put in ,not a whole ton to do but there are rec trips and a weight room ,gym . .random events sometimes too
- food is alright ,have snacks in the evening too ,a student store
- have a health area if you are sick or need some type of meds too
- 3 male dorms -. 1a ,2mens ,3
- 1and 3 the best , (independent living )if you do good you can make it too these floors which are relaxed and you kinda do your own thing ,
-, early wake weekdays, wake whenever on weekend ,but there is roll call everyday , where you sign in , , curfrew and roll call annoying but whatever ,
Management is not the best tho , don't really fix issues

What you put into this program is what you get out...

What you put into this program is what you get out of it, having a bad attitude and being negative will not get you far here. Although there are some characters here, you will become accustomed to it; if you can manage the environment here, then you will be able to take on any work setting that you get into. As far as I'm concerned there is no gang violence what-so-ever, a lot of people like to exaggerate about how terrible their experience was here due to the fact that they did not want to change their ways, they continued to act immature and took what Job Corps had to offer for granted. I recommend this program for people that are serious about getting on the straight and narrow, their are rules that must be followed in order to establish a safe and welcoming environment. Not everyone agrees with these rules that are enforced because they have a problem with authority, but that's where Job Corps helps, it teaches you how to be mature and can help improve your soft skills such as communication. Flint Hills Job Corps is a great program that can be easily accomplished, if you can not complete this program because you think that it is "too challenging" then you will most likely not be successful in what ever else you want to do because this is probably the easiest thing that you can do. The staff will work with you as long as you do not throw any attitude their way, be respectful and you will do just fine.

I had dropped out of high school at the tail end of my Junior year. Over the course of 8 months I got my G.E.D., H.S.D., and a C.O.C. of the F.H.J.C.C. Security and Law Enforcement Program. It let me attend college the same year that I would have had I stayed in school but I accomplished so much more there. It is free room and free food were you get to study for your profession. 2AB!

First off, they freak out over EVERY little thing....

First off, they freak out over EVERY little thing. You cannot even use your freedom of speech without raising red flags. I was there for ONLY 3 days before they decided to search my body, and my locker for a gun. The reason is some waste of skin decided it was funny spreading rumours that I was going to shoot up the school-they came to realize it was not true.
Then as irony would have it, kids are out in the smoking gazebo stomping on balloons and pretending they're shooting each other. Mind you in that area it sounds almost like a .45 going off, instead of looking into that they looked at me over a RUMOR.
And like a week and a half later they searched me AGAIN, because I was talking to my counselor about my problems and she spread the word amongst the staff and they thought I'd be a harm to others. Again, they found absolutely nothing. One was stupid enough to open my guitar case, seeing the tablatures that I have and asked "what is this?" I told him it was a freaking set of tablatures. For crying out loud. And before they sent me to a Asylum they said they were going to put locked doors on the bathrooms...that is just stupid, no matter how you look at it.
Why did I go to the asylum you ask? I was talking to the counselor about my ex-fiance and she misheard me when I said I wanted to kill my feelings for her, and therefore for whatever reason thought I had said I wanted to harm her-which wasn't true. When I got to the asylum every SINGLE nurse had stated I don't even meet the criteria to stay there. Consequently they made me go see a therapist-and then he said "We're just sitting here twidling our thumbs and driving each other crazy. Clearly you have no need for therapy." And my doctor, on the first visit, voided the need to attend 5 therapy visits and said I was to return with no restrictions. So not only can you not use your freedom of speech, but you can't trust a confidential conversation between you and your counselor who is supposed to be there to HELP YOU. So they made me look like such a horrible evil person over misguided information. You know it's bad when everyone says you're perfectly fine. When they sent me on the medical leave for the asylum they sent everything back EXCEPT my guitar and to this day they still have it. Other than that I'm still in the program and I'm not going to give up because I am bound and determined to change my life, no matter what tribulations come my way. I just wish they were smarter, comprehend what you say fully, and just plain had common sense. Locks on the men's bathrooms? So what? We defecate on the hall floors instead? Do we need to bring buckets and bottles in our dorms? What the heck man.
