It s my local gym so in effect a place of pain but the only gym I ve ever felt comfortable in or even liked. The spa area is extensive and has just been upgraded as has the gym. Small but all you need to stay fit without the intimidation of molded perfection and fancy gym kit that abounds in other gyms.

The food was excellent and the hotel was generally of a high standard with polite and helpful staff. We had a three course meal in the evening which was excellent and there was a choice of 5 or 6 dishes for each course. The buffet breakfast More
The hotel itself is lovely. Rooms are a little dated but I suppose that's down to personal taste. The spa however.. worst treatment experience possible. Left waiting for 25 minutes after a booked slot, then when they finally came to get us we weren't greeted or anything just told to follow them. I was told to wait while my girlfriend went in but they didn't think to let either of us know what was going on. We then get to our separate rooms and there's two beds in my room but my girlfriend is not allowed in to join me (even though we had booked a joint treatment). Then when asked to undress they leave the room, as per usually, but then I waited another 15 minutes for the massuase to come back!
Neither of us were given the 55mim treatments we paid for.
We complained & were given two 55mim free treatments as an apology. We ask for different therapists and to actually get the treatments we booked in the first place. Again, we wait 20 mins after our booked time and surprise surprise, same therapists.. another poor treatment which lastest 25mins due to them being 20 mins late!
Beautiful setting. 5star attention to detail. Staff were very professional and helpful. Spa and facilities were very good and the dinner was amazing. I was very impressed and would recommend. I will definitely be returning. Thank you.
Quite disappointing really considering it was supposed to be a four star hotel. The room was particularly small and the 'mood lighting' so poor that we had to resort to torches on our phones to unpack and find clothes that we wanted to change into. The coving around the side of the bath was filthy and the fan didn't work in the bathroom. I guess we are spoiled living in London but have the people here not heard that not everyone wants to eat meat all the time? We told the hotel when booking that one of our party was vegetarian and had expected the chef to be in touch but there was only one option on the main menu for a mushroom rissotto, something that is pretty much a staple in our house and a real disappointment when eating out and that's the only option. It wasn't even a good rissotto but watery and pretty tasteless. It's horrible to go out and pay for a meal when you can cook much better food yourself. We were told that we could order from the other menu as there were more vegetarian choices but that just added a couple of starters, no additional main courses. The salad looked great but was completely tasteless as was the watercress served with the pork. They might take care to source their meat but obviously don't afford the vegetables the same care as the salad was the usual tasteless offering that you get out of packets in a supermarket and the dressing was not seasoned. The restaurant bill was wrong when it arrived and had to be altered and when we went through to the bar we discovered that there was not enough in the bottles of our first three choices to serve us both a drink. We settled for alternatives but surely stocking the bar is pretty basic. Not the hotel's fault but the final straw was the fire alarm going off before 6am when we were rudely awakened and forced to evacuate into the rain outside. We won't be going back. It's time these chains resting on their laurels woke up and started really catering for their customers.
My husband and I had a wonderful spa day with afternoon tea. The staff were great and it a relaxing break. Sadly my eggless scones were undercooked. But the rest of the food was great.
As a disable person I gave this hotel 5stars .1the room was fitted out for disable person ie wet room .high toilet seat with grab rails , lowered sink very spacious for to get my wheelchair into wetroom. Also they put out ramps to get in and out of the hotel.disable toilets were near the entrance .Staff were brilliant .food was fantastic cooked to your taste .Hotel was very clean & tidy.would recommend this hotel to all my family & friends .Well done Macdonald Hotel Group .One very very happy customer.
Fabulous Hotel and Spa, Nestle in beautiful woodland. The staff are so attentive, the went above and beyond to make the guests have the best experience. I cant wait to have another stay at this Stunning hotel.
Had great 1 night stay here, came as part of a package with dinner, spa treatments and breakfast, plus full use of spa facilities. Lovely settings, room well decorated and clean (no signs of wear or tear like some people have described) and staff helpful. Spa and pool areas lovely with different saunas to try, and a Jacuzzi that goes outside if you are brave enough! Can't fault it and will definitely come back again as live nearby.
We got married here in 2013. We stay every year for our Anniversary. This years stay on the 10th August was still as fab as our first stay. Staff are always friendly and attentive and our room is always lovely and clean. Raf the manager is doing a really good job keeping things in order. We always stay in room 324 in the actual mansion and have already booked for 2020! See you next year!
Nice place for relaxing, but not for a work. Very amazing food , especially carry chicken and lamb. The minus it is faraway from any cities , but it is also big plus.
Went for a private function. Grounds are hilly in places and uneven. Be careful.... A bit of a maze to find your way around. The food for the private function was good and staff pleasant.
I have only been at the spa and gym area, but it's a great area with good facilities. Gym is quite small and could do with more weights and areas to stretch, but good machines in there. The pool is perfect for a bit of swimming or just enjoying the water, and it has a great jacuzzi area that goes outside as well. Good place to go and relax after a long day at work
THEFT WHILST RELXING IN THE SPA!!!!! Beware this hotel and spa, my partner's bank cards and drivers license were stolen from his locked spa locker!!!! Money was stolen from his accounts whilst we were 'relaxing' in the spa..... utterly devastating after booking an overnight spa break as we were both already very stressed..... this just topped off a dreadful stay. We left the hotel on Friday 19th March 2015 and after reporting this awful lack of security to the hotel manager, they have yet to apologise and even call us back. Obviously we are just not important as they are not bothered that we suffered identity theft etc. due to their negligence regarding their clients security.
Went for a family meal. Food was fantastic, staff were very helpful and the price was less than expected. Given 4 stars instead of 5 as a comment was made about tips after paying service charge.
It's a typical English hotel, a Grand building, that has been extended over time and now needs a refit, the bar is pretty soulless, the restaurant is dull. On the whole this is past its best and needs and injection of life.
Stayed here the night with my partner over the festive holidays to take advantage of the Spa facilities and treatments, as well as the food and restaurant space.
Pros - Rooms are clean, tidy and kept to a good standard. The Spa facilities are great particularly the different types of rooms (Sauna, Infra-Red, Steam etc.) The facial and deep tissue back massage were good, the staff were professional and effective. The gym is decent although not the biggest gym in the world but you would expect that.
Cons - Bartender could not differentiate a white and red wine, why charge outrageous drink prices when you have amateurs working behind the bar? The hotel brief brags of a large restaurant that can seat 90 guests comfortably. We were seated for dinner to be told that 2 3rds of the restaurant was closed off to facilitate for breakfast the next morning (this is surely down to short staff/lazyness to prep for breakfast the following morning?). This resulted in everyone 'huddled' and grouped together, we all might as well've been sat on the same table! Screaming kids were running riot during dinner and breakfast time with one family playing children cartoons on their iPads at full volume, staff failed to manage and regulate this. Although my treatments were up to a good standard my partners treatments were disappointing - no calming music on both occasions to drown out the sound coming from other rooms. The deep tissue back massage was also followed by an unexpected oily face massage.
Overall this was our 2nd visit and was very disappointing compared to our first visit a couple of years ago. Probably won't be returning again and will be venturing elsewhere.
Macdonald Berystede was chosen because of its closeness to Ascot Racecourse. We are a couple travelling within a group of 8 and we had rooms booked for two nights, and evening meal booked for the first evening. As we are well into November the hotel was gloriously decked out for Christmas. The rooms downstairs are all beautifully furnished with sumptuous soft furnishings. How very disappointing the bedrooms are. After a bad start in our first executive room where we found the room had not been serviced, we were shown to another executive room that was made up, but which was very dowdy and in need of a complete makeover. In fact the other members of our group had similar experiences. Berystede will, i'm sure, one day start to renovate these bedrooms and will become worthy of staying again when we are at Ascot. Because of the room situation it tends to put in the dark that we found the food and service to be good in the hotel and would recommend the Berystede for an evening out in their bar and restaurant, but unfortunately not a hotel to stay in.
The room was huge as was the en-suite. We live on a narrowboat so we really enjoyed the extra space. Lovely breakfast in the morning. Wi-Fi worked well and the room was warm
We came to this spot for a meeting. This restaurant was recommended to us by a friend. Well, it was very successful. The staff welcomed us with a smile and we had a fantastic feeling. The meal was yummy. We loved this restaurant a lot and we will definitely return to this restaurant. we highly recommend this place.
The rooms are very nice and the hotel is on a great location. Despite Covid they got the place working. You have to book a slot for the swimming pool but we managed without issues. Check in was a bit crowded but all the people were wearing masks. The only hiccup really was the bathroom was not as clean as expected. For the rest we really enjoyed our stay
Set in beautiful surroundings. A lovely hotel with great staff, lovely restaurant, great food. The spa is a must. The Massage was heaven. The rooms were a little dated but adequate for anyone.
Tired and slightly shabby. We were on a weekend overnight stay with dinner bed and breakfast, so I don't know how much it cost but in my view the advertised rates are well over the top for the state of the place. We were in a "modern" wing More
It was amazing. I had bought a package spa weekend for my dear friend for her a special birthday. The staff were lovely, polite and attentive. The room was spacious and comfy. The spa staff and facilities were great and so kind and did an amazing massage. The meals were off the charts. We will definitely be going again and would recommend people go to be pampered and have amazing service.
Great spa! Grounds not a big as thought. Hotel food was good but breakfast needs more selection to justify price. Need more staff in the bar during week to handle amount of customers
The heating in our room didn't work and as you can imagine an icey night in Dec in the UK isn't ideal.
There was dust over the TV and on top of the headboard. The rooms need upgrading big time fixtures and fittings were old, seemed like terrible handy man work on repairs. Was pretty appauled by it all considering its a more high end hotel!
Same value for money as you get at a premier inn except there's a pool and hot tub/spa.
This is my favourite hotel in England. It has the charm of an English hotel (including ghost) and at the same time is very comfortable, clean, friendly staff, everything you need.
The staff are friendly and attentive. Given the difficulties of Covid, they are definitely doing their best to make things both safe and as normal as possible. very nice pool.
Negative & Positive review: Negative: We stayed here last night in room 122, we were brought it from our children for our 31st Anniversary on arrival we were supposed to get Prosecco & strawberries in our room, this was not received, I mentioned it when we were going to bed and we had it delivered with our breakfast this morning. We both had a choice of 3 treatments for 25 minutes each, my husband chose the deep tissue massage & I chose the best foot forward massage. I received a nail polish which lasted 10 minutes, I said to the therapist I m sure I m supposed to get a massage with it she said that s the 55 minute massage I said but this has only taken 10 minutes she said enjoy the rest of your day I went and asked the receptionist what I should of got & I got none of what I should of got. The manager Amy came to see me & said it had Pedicure on my form I explained what I d booked & she said that had been booked but the form said pedicure, she was quite negative with what I was explaining, she said she would refund me the money but that s not the point I was really looking forward to this. So we went to reception to check out & was meet with Matthew the front Manager & what a rude man who has no personnel skills at all, a real bad way to checking customers out & we left feeling really upset at the way we had been dealt with. Positive What a lovely hotel and the rooms were nice & clean. We had a meal included in our package but we decided to eat of the Main menu & this was not an issue, the restaurant staff were all great & could not do enough for you & when the food came out it was truly delicious. The bar man was also extremely nice. Thanks Sam
EXCELLENT. I'm Paraplegic and the concierge could not have been more helpful! Especially as it was the last day of ascot and they were extremely busy! Impeccable service
Relaxing birthday surprise Had a few disappointments. Not a cheap prezzie, a treatment use of the spa facilities and afternoon tea with overnight stay. Expect to have a good service. But have been a let down a few details go along way. Booked in March and checked our rooms a week before, were interconnecting got told yes not a problem, then come to check in and asked if our rooms were interconnecting and got told no sorry they are not. We will have to see whats available luckily they had rooms that were. Stale bread, no serviettes, no cutlery, having to argue to get a clean dressing gown, only one coffee pod in the room, staff disorganised, no comuncation. Staff come across as they don't know what they are doing, pre ordered our afternoon tea and got given cream teas no sandwiches no option for fillings or any questions about allergies.. we got served before another table waiting on their afternoon tea 35min wait. Don't clear the tables. But the staff are always polite. The room is clean. Still had a relaxing time.
Lovely hotel and pool but the return to "business as usual" after lockdown is clearly proving a bit tricky for some staff, especially at breakfast (incomplete/incorrect cooked breakfast orders, cold chewy toast). I am sure, given a little more time, standards will improve
