Great Apple cider donuts, pies and market. Plus pick your own. Corn maze in the fall
Excellent family place, the Apple crisp is to die for
The staff that was at the grill at 530pm today was amazing and so friendly. Thank you so much for your help. I was hungry and let me buy it, it was supposed to be for you but gave it to me. Thank you so much. The burger was really good. Thank you for your kindness. God bless this company and your familys.
I love this place, brought my son here when he was young, and brought my parents and girlfriend peach and apple picking today. Nothing but smiling faces every time
Great destination for the whole family! Seasonal goodies, year 'round.
Going outside of busy times such as weekends with events, it is very relaxed. Normal lunch times are good, standby favorite sandwich is the "Macoaun".
Amazing! The best foods per usual and great service.
Nice variety and location a bit on the pricey side weekends are VERY busy they should add more staff great to feed ducks
Although there were no signs posted, they made me buy a $10 ticket to walk through the corn maze with my 11 and 12 year old children. Interestingly, a couple of years ago, they allowed them to walk through alone!!! This place is low quality and high price. Many items in the store can be bought at other farm stores for less .
Have been going for many years, but has gone downhill tremendously in recent years. Poorer quality produce, less selection, and seriously need to work on training their staff... could not believe how in your face and rude they were the last time I went. Will not be returning.
Very rustic, love the restaurant and outdoor dining.
Went hoping to pick Asian pears which were available on Saturday. But when we got there today they said no picking pears today. When you come from Massachusetts that's a long way and gas wasted to have to turn around.
A favorite stop for fresh fruits, vegies, cheeses, baked goods among other delights!
Always worth the drive from Canton for their produce, and the best apple cider donuts and pastries!
Very expensive the cider donuts aren't that great
Staff VERY RUDE
Getting to the farm was a bit confusing, no visible signs available only the golf course had directions. There is an overly price supermarket for things found in whole foods. They also have a little food stand outside that closes right at 11am even if you are standing in line the register will close at 11am. The farm part where the fruits can be picked was OK with only one portable toilet around in a big mass of land, fruits were fresh and again over priced even thou u picked up your self. I don't think I would go back again, wasn't all impressed.
Just came back with a half dozen apple cider donuts. They were terrible. Not happy we went all the way out there to get them. Had to dunk them in coffee to give them any taste at all. What happened? Did the baker retire?
I went peach picking last Sunday. On that day they were picking peaches and pears. There was not a single peach nor pear ripe enough to be picked. The peaches ripened but never lost their tartness. I'm very disappointed and will not be visiting soon. I will stick with what I know is good, Bishop Orchards. A lot of hipe but no reward!
Lyman orchards is a beautiful place. Filled with the feel and charm of a small town. Very family oriented. We weren't able to get into the store due to Covid which was a little disappointing. The line was way too long for me. But were able to go on a hayride, have a nice lunch and enjoy the grounds. They also have a huge corn maze! The food was good and reasonably priced..I will return to the store during the week when there aren't so many people... Would def recommend visiting Lyman Orchards!
The salad I just had here was amazing! Picked some strawberries and can't wait to eat them. The cider is also awesome! Looking forward to coming back for apple season!
First time apple and pumpkin picking here and AMAZING is all I can say! The landscaping is beautiful especially for someone who loves photography! I think I taste tested every apple available for picking and I was NOT disappointed at all!! Many different varieties to choose from! The pumpkins had an amazing variety and even though the sunflowers weren't to their prime, it was a breath of fresh air!
The store itself it's great! Although the price is a little high for some products, it's worth it! The apple cider is great and the products are amazing! Worth a try!
Lyman Orchards is one of my favorite places to visit during the fall. It's a beautiful drive through the orchards and you can pick-your-own! The Apple Barrel Market is a great place to shop. They have a wide variety of items (vegetables, soups, pasta, kettle corn, fudge, pies, donuts, ciders) and of course apples. All of their products are made fresh and delicious! The Apple Barrel Market sits above a pond where you can feed ducks. There's also a corn maze on the back side of the pond.
(Original Yelp review 10/12/2017)
Had a great time picking peaches and pears. Huge, beautiful orchards.
Beautiful place but google did not specify that there are different times for each section of the farm so we went and could not pick apples. Just shop in the market, still had a great time
We played the Players Course Aug 9. The Pro Shop & Starter were terrific. Great customer service. Unfortunately, the day went down hill from there. The tee boxes were terrible. Some were missing the second marker. All set on a location which appears to be the same spot used for the entire week. No grass - all dirt and very dry - could hardly get the tee in the ground. There were broken tees everywhere. Not just a few but 30+ and more on some tee boxes. Why don't they put a small wire basket or funnel on the tee boxes for the broken tees? There were empty cans & bottles around every tee box, just on the edge of the woods. No trash cans anywhere expect a couple of tee boxes - why? No marshall to keep things moving. A foursome in front of us quit after 15 holes because the foursome ahead of them where extremely slow and there was no one out there to speed them up. There was no one in front of them as far as we could see when we caught up to them on 16. We finished our round and got some burgers and beers at the Grille. The food was fine but the flies were terrible. As soon as the food arrived, we were attacked by flies. We had to put our plates on an empty table to keep the flies away from us while we ate our burgers. Unacceptable. They need to do something about this.
I am taking the time to write this because I am hoping Lyman's can accept my open and honest feedback. I was in a customer service business for over 30 years and I would always want feedback from my customers, especially if were negative.
Respectfully,
Steve Skolnick
This is basically a bakery, and fruit and vegetables place in an interesting old homestead. The grounds are historic. I believe it closes, probably in winter.
Beautiful well maintained store in a gorgeous and big orchard with corn, apples, sunflowers, peaches, pears. Highly recommend the glazed cider donuts!
Very crowded hayride was horrible we didn't go on it they were allowing to many people no social distancing !!! Outside market part had no donuts and no cider was very disappointed
Love summer day trips here! The kids enjoy picking whatever fruit is in season. Then we bring lunch and picnic down at the store and feed the ducks. The store is also a fun walk through for fresh produce, jarred items and fresh baked goods. Deli/food onsite.
I was looking forward to go their with my children and my husband tomorrow. After the review I won't be coming to visit all. I wont take the 25 minutes to go. Bad reviews give me a sense they no longer care.
Came on a Sunday and to say it was crowded is a understatement. The family enjoyed the corn maze while I went into the heavily crowded store. Overall it was fun. If crowds aren't you thing, ovoid. Otherwise all the good citizens wore their masks and behaved. Enjoy!
Ok, thank God the scene is worth and it has many fresh fruits
The biggest of the pick your owns. Wish it was more organic, but in the summer and fall it can't be beat to take your kids and pick your own fruit.
A good place to take your kids for fruit picking!
Blueberry picking was enjoyable, however when my family and I attended the strawberry picking fest*, parking was limited and directions were lacking,
I absolutely love this store. It makes you feel like you are in a place that actually cares about what they make and where it comes from. They have the best pastries and really good breakfast on the weekends. Best apple pies in the state.
Went to grab some apples and for a kids concert. Wonderful time
Fantastic Experience. Responses of support staff is excellent. Very kind to answer all queries and guide us to have a wonderful experience
Best Orchard experience yet!!! So I've been to a few orchard's and farms in CT and Lyman Orchards was the BEST experience yet. We went for Berry Fest 2013 and thought it would have been a wash out...BUT it was just cloudy all day which was kind of nice to go picking. With a 2 year old in tow we wanted to show him where the blueberries that he is obsessed with, come from. And let me tell you he was impressed. There was a large selection of blueberries to pick as well as raspberries. We got 2 pounds of blueberries and it came to $5.63. I don't personally care for blueberries and for the first time in my life (24) I actually liked them! We then went to PYO peaches. It was early in the season but there were still some beautiful ones higher up in the trees. The scenery was gorgeous we took MANY pictures for scrapbooking and would recommend this place to take fall, spring, special occasion pics as well.
I saw a review talking about how the food wasn't good. And to this person I say; you must have Lyman confused with some other place. We got sandwiches that were about $7 with a side. One sandwich was called the Crispin which was fantastic nana had the roast beef which was well done for a plain old roast beef sandwich. The sides; Cole slaw, potato and macaroni salads were homemade and delicious. Got mac n cheese for the little one and it was no Easy Mac (meaning it was actually good!)
We ate outside and then got some apple cider cinnamon donuts which were SOOOO great, to take home.
All in all an awesome time and we will be going to the sunflower maze later on in the month as well as picking regularly.
Lyman Orchards has great events for the entire family. Always a great place to go!
We enjoyed the strawberry festival this afternoon. The farm is beautiful, and the whole berry picking system seemed to flow very well while we were there. The country store is beautiful, and the different baked goods, canned items, treats, etc. all seemed to be reasonably priced! Definitely planning to come again!! 4.5 stars ;)
AWFUL experience at the Apple Barrel! Three of us decided to go there for lunch today and drove to Lyman. We waited in line for 10 minutes to order and the 3 guys at the grill looked a bit inexperienced and clueless. After 20 minutes one of them finally put our burgers on the grill (clearly they have never worked on a grill at a restaurant before...with 3 guys they should have been able to handle the orders. After another 5 minutes or so we watched as one of the guys used his gloved HAND to push the raw patty down on the grill...then move along to do other tasks (umm, cross-contamination)! CLEARLY this is a huge health violation, and could make people VERY sick. Someone I was with has a compromised immune system, and a contamination like that could be very dangerous, and that was a no-brainer. After spending over 40 minutes there, we went to the register and said "we have 3 orders but are leaving"...before I could even explain why the woman said "OK and walked away". No apology. No question as to why? Inexcusable. I wandered around the store while I was waiting and was surprised at the prices - and since it is a novelty place I accept that. But I do not accept poor customer service and unsanitary practices. VERY upset - after spending an hour away from work, we wound up with Popeye's fried chicken!
My family had a great time at the Winter festival! The food choices were amazing and so were the Ice sculptures!
Played golf with granddaughter
Well kept
Excellent food and atmosphere. Van get crazy busy on the weekends. Get there early!
It's a great place employee's are super friendly Luke the manager very welcoming
Definitely was worth the stop
great place to shop everything is fresh love going there. great atmosphere
Great place to pick your own and also apple barrel shop is great! Always fresh produce here. Fairly priced.
It is a fun place to go to the family to pick up mansana
A couple years ago New Management took over and all of a sudden it's become more about making money, rather than keeping customers. Their cinnamon cider donut holes are the best in my opinion. However, two short years ago, 15 donut holes sold for $4.99. Today, I went to pick some up and they were $6.99! the price of their apple cider has also gone up to what seems like and incredibly unreasonable price of $8.99 a gallon! Now, they do have a sweet rewards card that you can use for "special deals" ( basically bringing the prices back to what they used to be), but my sweet rewards card didn't give me any sort of a deal on anything I purchased. These items are two of the biggest reasons people come to the store. Maybe I'm the only one that noticed the price increase and maybe the new management is genius for charging more for the popular items, but but this little customer for years it's probably not going to shop here very much anymore because the prices are just too damn high, even though the quality is still top-notch of what they're selling. I hope the owners actually see this review so they know what's happening. Unhappy customer ending rant.
the best time had so much fun. i feltlike a kid again
Great apple pies. I wish they had better/bigger signs. I got lost on the golf courses. There are 3 of them and I ended up taking the wrong course in the pro shop crossing of the courses. People in front of me and behind me were confused. Difficult and long holes but very nice.
I came to Lyman s yesterday evening in hopes to see the sunflowers and visit the apple barrel.. the sunflowers were beautiful, however after purchasing two pies from the apple barrel, I was shocked and disgusted when I came home and there was mold on one of the pies, and the other pie didn t taste fresh at all. I used to love the baked goods from Lyman s Orchard, however this visit left me completely unsatisfied. When I called Lyman s to discuss this issue, they said we must return the pies in order to get a refund.. this is not plausible seeing how I live 40 minutes away. I shouldn t have to waste my own gas in order to fix their mistake. Be careful what you buy from here, I will not be returning.
Great people with a nice attitude. We had a nice breakfast and then went strawberry picking. Every employee was pleasant and courteous. The boys had much fun.
Best apple cider I ve ever had :). I go here every year and every season to pick produce off the trees and the go to the Apple Barrel where they have awesome baked goods and pre-picked produce. They even have a little lunch spot. No matter how packed it is, they keep the lines moving and are always pleasant and kind. Love it here.
Overpriced. $70 for a family of 4 to pick apples for 10 minutes and then do a TERRIBLE maze. It did not match the map. The "clues" were and unnecessary and not helpful - they make you go the wrong way. Very disappointed.
Best local farm store in CT! It's in a very convenient and has many items that other small grocery stores or supermarkets would have. If your near Wallingford, Durham or Middletown you should check it out!
Time for blue berries. Awesome farm with strawberries, blue berries, apple, pears and plum.
I visit every year. Corn maze by far one of the best ones
I can not comment at this time since I never been there but based on comments I read. I give you 1 star you should be ashamed to increase the prices on donuts and sell moldy pies. The audacity!!!
The people here are always so wonderful and accommodating. Their apple pies are delightfully scrumptuous, the best I've had in my whole life! So far I've yet to try any different flavors but I don't know if they've gotten in made any huckleberry variety yet? The last time I went here I asked specifically for huckleberry and they didn't have it. That would be so wonderful if they did. This orchid has been family owned for several generations and they take the utmost pride in thier work!
Lyman Orchards holds great events! Check out the Fall Corn Maze! You can volunteer to be a corn cop and help folks get out of the maze! They also have a great store with homebaked goodies, fruits, veggies, apples and more! Try some apple crisp, kettle corn or a horse drawn carriage ride. Great Family Fun
Always a good place to relax and pick your fruit. The Apple Barrel Store presents a lot of choice of goodies.
Tons of people. Hardly anyone wearing masks. Was very disappointed
Great selection of fruits and vegetables as well as homemade baked goods and other house made local products such as pickles, ice cream, stuffed bread and assortment of jellies and jams!! The signage of picking own fruit a little confusing and difficult to find from main road
This is my family s favorite place for apple and pumpkin picking. Make sure you get some cider and check out the store for the most amazing cider doughnuts.
Lots of varieties of farm fresh produce. We had lunch at the cafe on a Saturday afternoon, very crowded, and the pulled pork sandwich was very tough and dry. 3.5 stars
I went first time . The desserts were delicious . I really liked this .
Always great. Picked up my CSA share and bought some just picked peaches.
have to have an apple cider donut and their cider!!
Great experience every time I go. But Saturday was the first time I took a little one and that was a whole new amazing experience to see how your orchard truly brings people together for an amazing experience. To be outdoors and pick your own fruit, the. To go to go to the Apple Barrel for a delicious apple cider donut and some cider is the perfect way to start a weekend!
Love the apple cider here! So delish. The freshly picked apples are refreshing on a hot day.
Love the apple barrel. Bakery, deli, and ok everything is amazing!! Day trips are awesome and love relaxing by the duck pound
A monkey behind a computer could have planned better. No signs for anything - it's impossible to figure out where to get what.
Lyman Orchards is a great place to visit, they have something for everyone, from a large pick-your own orchard for apples, berries, peaches, and more. They also have large market which carries everything from produce, to cider donuts, and fresh made sandwiches. In the fall they have a corn maze, and a lot of other family friendly attractions/events going on as well.
Great pick your own options and prices but the store prices are high
Terrible experience at this place. Very little direction from the staff to find anything. It took us 30 minutes from arrival just to get to the right place for the apple orchard. The worst part was we re still in the middle of a pandemic and their market was jam packed. Absolutely no social distancing or mask enforcement. Wouldn t recommend this place.
My family has been picking apples at Lymans for years. But this season you pay a set price for a certain size bag. We paid 20 dollars for a bag that held about 7 pounds of apples. New system is a rip off and will not be going back
