The only issue is that the volume of patients are usually massive so if you are going their it should be on referral from other hospitals and you should try and go much earlier on your appointment day.

This is a Federal Tertiary Teaching Hospital that houses the UNILAG College of Medicine and primarily affiliated to University of Lagos.

It is a superspecialty hospital with very experienced and qualified professionals. Almost all medical departments are present there. However, it is plagued by most of the issues that face Nigerian institutions. Over the past three months, there have been some days of total electricity blackout which destructively hampers the ability of the healthcare professionals to discharge their duties. The blackout is due to the incessant debt of the institution owed to the supplier of gas for the intitution's privately generated power plants. There is no back up power that can power the whole hospital, rather different units have small generators that can only run for few hours. Also, there is the perennial issue of inadequate funding which affects research, staffing and other projects.

No doubt LUTH has competent hands but it is still plagued by the aforementioned issues.

LUTH is not a place that I advise anyone to go
Bad Emergency response no medical facilities the little they have is not working
Patient die due to their carelessness
Take almost a week to do your discharge clearance
No drugs in their pharmacy yet to pay for what they did not supply the most stupid hospital in Lagos I have ever been to
you buy everything your self including, injection, medicine, hand gloves and you keep them yourself
Because of this their carelessness one of their patient got addicted to a painkiller injection call Pentazozine when they ask him why and how he said because the nurses told him to be taking it by himself that they can't be calling the doctors everytime to give him the pain relief

Hmmmmmm. Sound doctors. Slow nurses. Slow and stressful process. You buy everything, even the really minute things - injections, handgloves, etc and pls take your fan with you. The private ward is forever full as well, even the general ward. Best bet: don't fall ill. Pls. Take care of yourself and do not play with your health.

A teaching hospital of the Lagos State University with an excellent team of surgeons, therapist etc. My experience here was one to remember for good reasons. I would however look forward to a day they will skip some to the time wasting processes like file search, Bill payment and the rest.

One of the first quality health institution in Lagos. A Lagos State government health institution but with no or little subsidized charges for people. Their IVF centre seems to be the only department well organized and staff kind enough with patients possibly because they now charge almost the same thing with private hospitals. The hospital does not work on weekends and holidays and this is really not good for emergencies.

Lagos University Teaching Hospital is a major referral Federal health centre situated in Idi-Araba. It also houses the College of Medicine. It has a good institutional foundation but requires a total overhaul of all its dilapidated facilities. It accommodates many medical consultants and surgeons and has within its expansive compound, staff quarters; students hostels; patients wards; private wards; banks, etc. It has many big parking lots which have, unfortunately, been privatized. As stated earlier, it requires an urgent overhaul of its structures.

For medical services and training, LUTH is a premier centre in Nigeria. With poor health insurance coverage of the population necessitating out-of-pocket payments by patients, and the compartmentalization of care to multi-specialty departments, accessing services here could be very distressing and cumbersome for the uninitiated and the poor.

However, LUTH remains the preferred destination for guaranteed specialist medical services by board certified experts in Lagos & environs.

Can't believe there's no convenience... Like a public toilet, and then there's paper as car park pass, and also you have to drive out through the same gate you come in, no freedom to exit via the other gate... This is so disheartening for an establishment this big in a great city as Lagos.

They have World ranking specialists, but they still need more hands in the care-giving sections like the Nurses, Laboratory Staff, Hospital Attendants e.t.c. There is also need for frequent training or enlightenment for Hospital Staff generally on Good Hospital Practice to foster Patients-Workers relationship.
