Local 183 sucks, the union reps play with the memebers. They have too many members and not enough jobs. The take the members money and do nothing for the memebers. In a meeting for negotiating new contract the members were told the union will not back them up if they choose to strike. You are better off getting a non union job. Currently the union has members litterally fighting each other for jobs at 4 o'clock and every time I am at the union they are accepting new members.
Jack Olivera and Luis Camara do nothing for you but put in a bad spot. They talk a lot of talk but do NOTHING for you. I have never seen (in 8 years) this many members without jobs.

This local is like calling rogers cell phone help lines...get ready for the run around. 15 different ppl answer the phones and cant direct your call in the appropriate fashion.the 12 years ive been in the labourers union ive never had locals hang up on me when they are asked reasonable questions.they will outright ignore you. Im glad i dont have to rely on this local for anything other then a union dues bill.

cant trust my reps. and they make me grieve everything little thing i need from benefits, also they canceled my benefits for working 110/120 hours in a month due to work shortage, they didnt tell me about it and i can only pay in person, also when i was on disability they made me grieve my benefits which was hard when your in recovery, honestly if it wasnt for the fect that the job site itself is unionized, id get my own benefits plan and retirement plan, it would be cheaper and would allow me to go to outside lawyers when issues come up (local 183 makes you sign your right to get outside lawyers away, meaning if they dont give you something you are entitled to, GOOD LUCK!!!!

I know a lot of working class people who are represented by this union also known as LIUNA local 183 Honestly all I ever heard is positive things , from great health benefits, job security, great pay, and a lot of different options, opportunities for growth and advancement with plenty of educational courses being offered to the members. Sometimes I wish my union was this powerful.

Finding work at local 183 extreme difficult unless you know someone. I came to this place seeking for work in construction and still cannot find any things intrigue. I am not member of the local 183 and not sure, or not if worth it. If I attempt to call an employer at work, no one seems to answer the phone. Most of the time, they want to hear about your experience and not who you really are. The money, diploma, the training, and achievement it joke. On job construction site, it even worst if demanding for a job because most don't speak English, or want to hire, or try to assist. Sadden to see most employee have no proper training, safety regulation, or certificate. Better off talking to someone that you know if looking for employment. Don't waste time, money, and energy here if you don't know anyone here. Even today, I still don't have work in construction and it hard to find good peoples. I Speak from my experience.

Calling/ going to the benefits department is literally a joke and a waste of time. I really don't know how these people get jobs. These people speak to you like you don't know what you are talking about. They have a lot of attitude and do not really care about your problems.

I love my union. If you're willing to put in the work, willing to help yourself by taking the training, the Union will provide that training. But if you want to just skate by and do nothing to help yourself, how can the Union help you? The Union is not magic. It's a resource; it's up to you to figure out how to best employ that resource. So if you are out of work use that time to upgrade your skills make yourself more employable. And stop bashing the Union because you're out of work and do something about it.

I have been with local 183 from 2003 I started of in the low rise residential forming and then got into sewer and watermain . All the companies I worked for I was introduced from someone else or I would not have known about the jobs. The 183 reps did not find these jobs for me. I like the fact I have benefits and a sense of security and a good paying job.The 183 reps can only do so much about jobs available but I also find workers take advantage of the fact that they are in the union and tend to work less hard and that's why a lot of these people are looking for work I find if you work hard you will always have work and people who complain are the ones who have the wrong work ethic.

I call my rep because I was getting bulied and mistreated at work from my foreman so many times I couldn't take it no more I had to leave on day . He told Me bulling it happens in school not here.
Well Mr rep bulling it happens also in the job site and can be very dangerous if u went of any safety program u should know better specially for a coordinator. Or maybe because the rep and the company owner are friends .at the end of the day I couldn't collect ie the union did absolutely nothing for me .plus in the job site was illegal immigrants that the union knew it through only things they did work with someone else name and insurance number .

Calling the benefits department is worse than call...

Calling the benefits department is worse than calling a government office. The wait time is ridiculous! For example 2 hours combined on 2 different calls. My husband has been a member for 6 years and being his wife I have been given no information or authorization to ask any questions about direct billing regarding dental and massages. I have been using these benefits for years. I provided all information necessary and was literally given nothing. What a waste of time. THE BENEFITS DEPARTMENT IS DISGRACEFUL. Just simply RUDE.

Regards,

Disgruntled members wife!

About Local 183

Local 183: The Largest Construction Local Union in North America

Labourers' International Union of North America, Local 183 is a renowned construction union that has been serving Southern Ontario for over six decades. With a membership of over 60,000 skilled workers, it is the largest construction local union in North America. The union's primary objective is to protect and promote the interests of its members by providing them with better wages, benefits, and working conditions.

Local 183 was established in 1952 as a small organization with only a few hundred members. Over the years, it has grown into one of the most influential unions in Canada and the United States. Today, Local 183 represents workers from various industries such as construction, demolition, landscaping, waste management and recycling.

The union's success can be attributed to its commitment to providing quality services to its members. It offers training programs that help workers acquire new skills and improve their existing ones. These programs are designed to meet industry standards and ensure that members are equipped with up-to-date knowledge on safety regulations.

Local 183 also provides its members with comprehensive health benefits packages that cover medical expenses for themselves and their families. This includes dental care coverage as well as vision care coverage.

In addition to these benefits packages, Local 183 also offers pension plans that help secure financial stability for retired members. These plans provide retirement income based on years of service and contributions made during active employment.

One of the key strengths of Local 183 is its ability to negotiate collective agreements on behalf of its members. The union works tirelessly to ensure that workers receive fair wages and working conditions while protecting their rights at work.

Another important aspect of Local 183's work is community involvement through charitable initiatives such as toy drives during Christmas time or supporting local food banks throughout Southern Ontario communities where they operate.

The union also takes an active role in promoting diversity within the workplace by advocating for equal opportunities regardless race or gender identity among other factors which may affect employment opportunities or treatment at work sites across Southern Ontario region where they have presence.

In conclusion,

Labourers' International Union of North America (LIUNA), Local 183 has come a long way since it was founded over six decades ago; today it stands tall as one of Canada's most prominent unions representing skilled tradespeople across various industries including construction & demolition among others mentioned above.
With an unwavering commitment towards improving working conditions & securing better wages/benefits packages for all our valued Members - we continue striving towards excellence every day!
