Went for brunch ($29pp) @ 1pm, arrived 12:45 and we're immediately seated. We all wanted the pasta trio. The food was passably good, not stellar and the waiters rushed us, removing desert plates before we were even done. We had to ask for coffee after brunch, as nothing was offered. Clearly their objective was to have us up and out the door. We have been to Lydia's several times in the past and always found it reasonably priced, pretty good food and a pleasant environment to eat in. Now, we'll be trying other places in the future.

I m not so sure the cost was justified for the quality, though I did enjoy what I had (salmon - the mustard was a bit off putting). Menu options were limited to my liking. Be aware, parking in this area is difficult.
I'm never very excited to eat here. But that's on me. The food is rustic an inventive and other than a dry pork chop about a year ago sheets well prepared. But the dining room is loud and crammed full of people. It feels like a high end Olive garden. Have the Frito. The gnocchi is superb. The pasta trio is always intriguing. I always see families with kids but I can't imagine what they're eating.
I've been here four or five times now for lunch, and the food is really good every time. The all-you-can-eat pasta trio always has something fantastic.
Lidia's was amazing! Made reservations with my husband and brother in law on our way to the airport. The waitstaff was very attentive and super nice. We all ordered the Pasta sampler and they were all incredible: Garlic and butter Gnocchi, Farfalle Pasta with Bolognese, and Taglietelle with veggies and shrimp. Great prices for wine, we also had a delicious Italian Coffee for after dinner drinks. Would highly recommend!
We knew Lidea's is closing but wanted to enjoy one last meal here. Unfortunately the menu is now very limited and in top of that they were out of some of the items. We loved Lidia's and will miss it
Had not visited Lidias in quite a long time ended up being pleasantly surprised. The pasta trio was an excellent combination of tastes. Will add it back on the list to visit more often.
When we were in Kansas City on business a few years back, we liked Lidia's so much that we went twice. So when we were planning to be in Pittsburgh, we made a reservation hoping to re-live the magic.
But all we got was a big disappointment. Our meal was lackluster. Our server, Casey, was off-putting and inattentive -- especially after she figured out we weren't big spenders. And the prices were completely out of line for the experience we had.
Lidia's... At least the Pittsburgh version... Is the textbook example of what comes of free TV exposure, and blind brand loyalty.
Was the worst food ever!!! Very over priced. Very bland. Very few options. I will never go back. I could have had a better meal out of the frozen food section at a gas station.
Food was good, as was the service and atmosphere. No complaints but nothing wowed me. Although owned by celebrity chef Lidia Bastianich, it just a slightly above-average traditional old-school Italian. Fairly pricey for area given the quality of the food ($180 for 3 - entree/salad/1 glass wine/no dessert with tax and tip). Main advantage is convenience, being next door to our hotel - Homewood Suites.
Food was alright. The only reason for 2 stars. Service was extremely lacking, it appeared not all guest shared the same experience as some were greeted and had attentive service checking on them frequently. Unfortunately, my wife and I did not get this same service. Would we go back....NO.
My family enjoyed our dinner at Lidia's very much. It was a special treat for my mother who watches Lidia on PBS all the time. The food was delicious and the service was first class.
Was there 5/11. The food was not at the level I expected for a restaurant of it's caliber. The bolognese sauce was bland and not at all what I expected from Lidia's recipe. No red pepper. The other two pasta sauces of the trio were also bland The octopus had no taste. The brunch buffet was very good. The deserts were very good. The maitre d was excellent. The waiter was new but did a very nice job. I will come for a second visit but will be more cautious and will speak up at the time. Everyone has off days. I hope this is not the norm.
Lorie was an amazing server and it's a shame to know Lidia's will be closing soon. Unlimited pasta trio every time. Delicious food. Great service. I hope that this closing means only good things for those who have represented this establishment so well in my many visits.
Went to Lydia s for first time looking forward to good food. We were seated promptly but unfortunately that is where the positive experience ends. It was Valentines Day, so we expected some slow service but this was beyond slow. First we found as we sat down that it was a fixed price menu. We were not informed when making reservations nor in the website that this was the case. We watched numerous tables walk out as they found this to be the case. Our waiter explained some of the entree s, one we were interested in was explained to be one of the best. We specifically asked if the sausage was spicy and were told no. We ordered and then waited over 45 minutes for our first course. We stopped the waiter several times to inquire and were told things were slow. We finally had to ask for bread because it had been so long. The delay between courses continued, with total time from being seated to exiting restaurant 3 hours and 15 minutes. Some tables turned quickly while others around us complaining as well about how slow the service was. The worst part was at 2.5 hours our dinner arrived. What was placed in front of me was the meal the waiter gave high remarks. It looked like a bowl of wet dog food. Brown, mush that was supposed to be chicken and sausage. It contained 2 small pieces of sausage, zero chicken and mostly potatoes. I tasted the sausage and immediately reached for water due to how spicy it was. The taste was horrible. I could not eat another bite. So much for dinner. When what appeared to be a manager came over to see if he could clear the table, I told him how awful the dinner was. His response to me was, Oh . He cleared the other dishes and left me to continue to look at the bowl of dog food in front of me. 3 hours + in our waiter brought the check over and did explain that an adjustment had been made to the check due to our wait. Kind of them but I would have expected the manager to apologize as well. Very unfortunate. We had really looked forward to a great experience to celebrate our 33rd anniversary and time out with friends. We will never return and we will tell everyone not to go either.
Just stopped by for happy hour and the staff and drinks were good. Did not try the food but have been to Lidia's in other cities and have not been dissappointed.
Delicious, quickly prepared Italian food. The manicotti was easily the best I've had and came in a rather large portion. Lidia's is a bit expensive but well worth cost.
We were greeted by a friendly hostess and promptly seated but it took 3 hours to get through our meal for a group of 4. 1. Do not get the 3 pasta trio endless dish. 2 of us ordered it and we only really liked 1 of the 3. Also because it was so busy occasionally the pasta servers walked past us leaving us waiting for pasta. 2. Both bills had over charges at the end of the dinner, although the server was very aplogetic and corrected them after we pointed out the errors. 3. Overall it was bad dinner experience and we all agreed that we will not be returning. Too many better places to choose from.
1st time going there to celebrate my niece s graduation. Sadly disappointing, it was 12 of us and no one was satisfied with their meal. The Caesar salad, was sour. The ziti w/ meatballs: the meatballs had no flavor, it was just blah, the pasta needed more salt. Chicken lemonade: too sour. The lasagna, was too plain. Very disappointing. The food took a long time to get to our table, nobody offered us any bread, we had to ask for it. The food was terrible, never going back.
The brunch was phenomenal. The service was excellent and the food is to die for. They have an all you can eat pasta option which allows you to try 3 different types of pasta, when we were there the one option was 5 cheese pear ravioli and it was amazing. The brunch is $30 per person but you get an amazing entree as well as access to the anti-pasta bar and dessert bar. A top notch ranch experience.
The value is awful. My lemon chicken was $24 and didn't even come with pasta. So I added a side of pasta which I split with another person at the table who got a $19 egg plant dish also with no pasta. The side of pasta was $8.50 for 4 bites each. My Fiance wanted to add chicken to her Gnocchi the server said it was just a small up charge. It was $12 for a half of chicken breast. To top it off when you have a birthday and bring a cake, they charge you a cake cutting fee. The only good thing was the staff was nice. Nothing special about the food, portion size or atmosphere. There is no value in this place. Believe it or not Olive Garden is way better in all 3 aspects.
Atmosphere is very nice, and the staff was quite helpful and attentive. The dinner, not so good. My wife had the duck breast, and the skin was not crisped much at all. The meat itself was tough and not particularly fresh in appearance. Very disappointing. My Osso Bucco was very tasty, but I did not get a marrow spoon. The barley risotto was undercooked but tasty.
An A+ for the staff ( bartender and waiter). C for the food. Not what I was expecting.
Lidia's serves authentic, house-made Italian dishes that are sure to cure that Italian craving. With an upscale feel, Lidia's is perfect for a date, drinks with friends, or a small event. Highly recommend getting the pasta trio!
Ordered the Viel. Pork was brought to my table. Asked the waiter if I was mistaken if I thought Viel was beef and he said that pork is also Viel. My dates mother asked in another way and he said that it is beef. No fixes with it, but it was good, and I don't usually eat pork. The others at my table orders the all you can eat ravviloi and was very good.
Great food, nice atmosphere, easy access to parking garages, safe environment, Very good and attentive servers, the best place to stop when you are going to a venue at the nearby attraction.
Went on a Tuesday evening. I got the all-you-can-eat pasta trio and the pasta was very good. My fiance ordered the gnocchi with duck sauce and that was--though not the best we've ever had--also very good. The waiter was excellent. Nice ambiance. The bread at the beginning was a little dry. Given the price point, I did expect a bit more from the food, but I definitely enjoyed the food. It's worth going at least once (with a group), but not necessarily more than once. If you're a bit price constrained, don't go and don't feel terribly left out. I hear the weekend brunches are better.
Good space for large parties. They accommodated 10 of us as walk ins and the service was impeccable. The braised short ribs were awesome. Also, this is super convenient to the Homewood Suites on the same block.
Food was just okay and surprisingly bland. The pasta trio was nothing special and my son had to ask 4 times for some grated cheese. The service was slow and overall i would say poor. Our waiter did not check in with us once once we recieved our mains. I enjoy Lidias show however I would not recommend the restaurant.
This is hands down my favorite restaurant in Pittsburgh. The atmosphere, food, and wait staff is great! I think everyone who enjoys bread with their meal will love the assorted bread basket and butter. The butters served are not just run of the mill. I've eaten at Lidia's a handful of times and always get the unlimited pasta trio. Never have I had the same pasta combination twice. All pasta is made in house so it's nice and fresh. The waitstaff is attentive. I have noticed when it gets extremely busy, the pasta refills do not come out as quickly. However, my overall opinion is that everyone needs to try this place at least once. It's also great to celebrate birthdays there as they do bring out an assortment of gelato.
I've been here a few times (for brunch twice, and to a special 4-course dinner). Overall, I am consistently amazed by the quality, level of service, and decor. Not to mention how good a value it is!
The pastas are great, but actually I find the other stuff more interesting... Salads are excellent. Octopus is perfect. Wine selection fantastic. Gorgeous decor. I plan to keep coming here a LOT.
If you can, avoid this place! Getting seated was quick, especially since we had a reservation, but that s where the good service ends. Our waiter was really nice but the food left A LOT to be desired. The baked ziti was most definitely left out and then microwaved before getting to our table. I had to send it back because it was so tough and frankly, inedible. The second time it came out, it was better but it tasted awful and microwaved as well but they hid it better. I could barely eat it and the meatballs were so bland. The other members of my party were not too happy about their orders either. Then, they messed up our bill and added charges to it but luckily they caught it before we paid. Overall, their food is underwhelming and overpriced and there are TONS of other Italian restaurants in Pittsburgh that are actually worth your time and money. Yes, even Olive Garden. Seriously.
Terrible disappointment, celebrating a big birthday. The ziti dish was so tough it couldn't be eaten after sending it back twice. Two ravioli dishes were cold and had to be sent back. Recommend finding a better Italian restaurant in Pittsburgh. The only good part was the server who tried hard but couldn't succeed in serving decent food for the price.
Went to this restaurant with family. I was not so hungry, so I ordered an polipo as my meal. Presentation of the dish is very nice. I was expected grilled octopus (wish to see some char to it) but instead of grill I think they fry it. Overall taste is ok. Need improvement. Most of us think the main course is just ok. My little 1 loves his kid meal. Desserts are good.
Lidia's great as long as you remember to do one thing...order the pasta trio! Everything else is kind of an afterthought on the menu, but that should not matter as long as you get the pasta trio! The pasta trio is three delicious pastas, always rotating, and they are served right on your plate right at your table. It always comes out hot and delicious. Ordering anything else is like ordering fish at Fogo de Chao.
By far the best kept secret in Pittsburgh. Parking is tough, but the food is unbelievable. The best value is the pasta tasting trio available only during lunch. The pastas rotate daily and it's all you can eat. The staff is ridiculously helpful and the atmosphere is the height of class.
This restaurant is fantastic! The food is wonderful. Such a shame to see this leave the cultural district of Pittsburgh. Lidia... come to Phoenix, AZ! We need authentic Italian here and it s a great place to be!
So so at best. Octopus appetizer was good but certainly not outstanding. Lasagna...well... let's just leave it as awful at best. Dry...overcooked...microwaved once too many times. Such a depressing experience. I had heard such good things. And one more thing .. your drinks are watered down at best
Went there last Friday night. Place was almost empty. The food was the WORST that I ever had in an Italian restaurant, and I love Italian food. I sent back my cannelloni because it was so salty (confirmed by people next to me) that it was inedible. The replacement pasta was no better. The bill for 10 people including 4 children was over $500 including a compulsory 18% gratuity. I told them when we left that I would not be coming back.
PS they also charged us $12 to park across the road.
If you don't plan to get pasta, don't go to Lydia's. My salmon was the plainest least seasoned salmon I've ever had. Another person at my table had the Beef tenderloin, and I noticed he left it on his plate and didn't eat it. But everyone that had pasta loved it.
First time at Lidia's after trying to get there for years. We have been to many fine dining restaurants in Pittsburgh, but this was not one of them! Service by the floor staff like the hostess and wait staff was fine, but the food was not good. In fact it was bad. I ordered the Friday night seafood special and for $40 we got cold to luke warm seafood with rubber calamari. Upon mentioning it the waiter took it back. It was reheated, including the clam that was already eaten, and returned with a fancier presentation. It was not good, but eaten anyway because my wife was already about finished with her meal. Okay it happens right? I actually understand that things like that can happen.... but - then comes the check... NOTHING! Nothing was done to make up for the issue. No manager came by and no money was knocked off the meal. I sought out the manager (had to ask for her) and she finally came out and basically indicated that she was doing an inquiry and she obviously had her doubts about our complaints. I finally told her to just ring us out for the full amount because we wanted to go and would not be back. They took the check and when they brought it back we saw that the "seafood special" was comped. Shouldn't have been that difficult. Here's a tip Lidia's - If a customer returns a dish to the kitchen, especially if it's the evening's featured dish and especially because it's cold, you might want to have the manager reach out to them to apologize and see what can be done to make up for it. We didn't need the meal fully comped. We needed some concern and sympathy and a nice modest gesture of knocking some money off the bill. Since you didn't do any of that then you ended up comping the whole dish. We will not be back!
Food was delicious and waiter, Matthew was very attentive and helpful. I ordered the chefs pasta trio tasting which was very good, but servers were slow to return to offer more pasta servings.
