The emergency room department is is complete JOKE
The staff treated my grandfather poorly. He is elderly (69) he also has dementia. Do not take a loved one here that has dementia because they don t help them out. They just try to get you to stick your loved one in a nursing home.

I love all my doctors and am grateful for their knowledge and empathy. My only negative feedback is the check in process for blood work. I'm also disappointed that the other doctors can not share ur info within the same Lewis Gale group. I feel it increases my COVID chances by coming into the hospital to see a doctor/have labs drawn. Not sure why they dont have offices outside of the hospital?
I would also add that all 3 of my doctors are amazing...however, if you need psychiatric help I urge you not to see this group.

I been here since Saturday. I'll be leaving tomorrow hopefully if my X-rays come back with a positive report. I hate the hospital period ion care where it is. But this place is the best hospital I've ever been to. The nurses and techs on the 5th floor are amazing! Extremely polite and courteous. Heather was my favorite! She was always checking and making sure I never needed anything. Ms. Beth is amazing as well! Always gave me a good laugh and never let me be in pain on her shift. Ms. Loretta, Shameka, oh and Curtis! That guy is great! Excellent nurse! Oh and Cara! Just simply amazing. I'm sure im missing a name or two, and I'm sorry but I just moved here and not good with remembering names that well but the staff is great on that floor. And I can't forget about Brandlene. She helped make my experience so much better by just stopping by and talking to me. Best Nurse Leader you guys have there im sure! Anyway, thanks for a memorable experience even if I hate hospitals. Hopefully I never get sick again! And if I do, I'll be back at Lewis-Gale praying they put me on the 5th floor where I had amazing care and hospitalilty.

My father (65) needed PT/rehabilitation after intensive spinal surgery. We transferred him to Lewis Gale inpatient PT/rehab after he made very little progress in a previous PT center. He was at Lewis Gale for 2 weeks and made tremendous progress! The staff was attentive, polite and friendly, always asking him about his family etc. He also really enjoyed the food which isn't what you would expect from a hospital! I want to thank the dedicated staff for giving us our Dad back!!

I was a patient in the Oncology Center at LewisGale Medical Center in Salem. Everyone in the Oncology Center that I interacted with during my treatment from my physician, Dr. John Rogers to the radiation techs to Jean at the front desk to the valet at parking were very kind, caring, and professional. They explained my condition and treatment in a way that I easily understood and were always available to answer questions. I would not hesitate to place my care in their hands again if it became necessary.

I was seen today for lower back and leg pain, This had to be the best experience I've ever had in an Er.. The PA Adam Lunnie was top notch he listened to my problems and was very sympathetic and helpful.. The whole staff was helpful and welcoming, even the nurse checking me in and taking my vitals was very sweet and sympathetic ..I can't express enough how grateful I am for how you made me feel like a priority and not just another patient. I will definitely use Lewis Gale for any medical needs and highly recommend to family ,friends or anyone for that matter.. Thanks Lewis Gale for getting me back to half way normal and feeling much better...

Worst experience I have ever had for a hospital. The ICU unit was really good, however when they moved my sister to the 6th floor it was terrible. Care was almost zero and the nurses attitude was horrible. Based on my families experience there is no way we could ever recommend it.

Everyone was soooo pleasant, respectful and kind. Can be difficult to find all 3 components in one place!! However, LewisGale does succeed in all 3!! I had major surgery and was in-patient for 2 days. From the free valet/ pre-registration to discharge, I left feeling like I was the only patient there instead of a cow thru a cattle market. And most important, I never had to push the call button ONCE!!!

Went and got an MRI. Be forewarned! When they pre register you they will tell you to pay now and they will take 20 percent off. They do do that, but then they bill you more than double what you thought you prepaid for. It's all a scam! Keep it up though Lewis Gale and insurance companies. Your day is coming. It's because of your lies and scams that have made news for years that this country is going to go socialist soon and you won't be allowed to rip people off anymore. Crooks!!!!

For the most part, my visits were fine. But I wasn't happy with the discharge process. It was very abrupt. I was seen multiple times in the ER in one week because I was having severe stomach issues that no one could seem to figure out. It seems like each time, a certain number of tests would be run and if nothing came of those select tests, I would very quickly be discharged instead of trying to find other possibilities for what could be causing the problem or what could help it. I came to the ER multiple times because I desperately wanted answers, but got the same result each time. After the 3rd trip, I stopped coming there. An answer is always there, but sometimes it's hard to find. That doesn't mean you should stop trying.

My care in ICU and by Dr Adam Guyer was excellent. They saved my life.
Once they moved me to 6 West it was terrible. My sister who is retired nurse had to log a complaint about the Doctor she came in my room for first time without reviewing my chart first advised was going to go sign release papers. If had not been for my nurse Seth coming in and me telling him and he going to find her to advised was coming from ICU with multiple bloods clots in left leg don't know what would have happened. This floor was short staffed over the weekend was left twice in my own urine on full bedpan for 30 minutes each time as no one at station to answer call bell.
Once moved me to Inpatient Therapy was very well taken care of.
Must say though this stay was not satisfactory. There are a lot of unhappy staff could hear talking in hall that .Saying fed up with no help on floors and pulling in nurses that are from different floors that have no clue what they are to do. They can only do so much when no help being hired to takenow a up slack.
Weekends need to be fully staffed just like weekdays. I would rate right a 2-1/2!

I use Lewis Gale s OBGYN with Dr. Smith and I absolutely love her as well as the staff! They are all genuinely concerned about any problems that may be going on and are sincerely concerned about your overall health. You can talk to Dr. Smith about anything and she will never judge, not once. She is a very special person with a big heart. We also use the Pediatrics department for our son with Dr. Bouldin since he was born and Dr. Bouldin is hands down the most down to earth Dr I have ever had the pleasure to meet. Yes, we did have a long wait one day when things were behind, however, it is completely worth waiting that extra time to chat & joke with Dr. Bouldin! We have seen a different doctor before and that just made us realize even more how much we really prefer Dr. Bouldin. We will never switch Drs!

I was told by my doctor to go through the emergenc...

I was told by my doctor to go through the emergency department due to a failure of a medical device. The ED nurse, Pierre, is one of the nicest nurses I ve ever met. He was knowledgeable and had a great bedside manner that set me at ease. Dr. Evett in the ED was kind, and knowledgeable as well. The only problem I had was when I was sent to radiology. The nurse in radiology expressed her annoyance at the fact that I was there without an appointment. She accused me of deliberately causing the problem that brought me to the hospital. She then told me that she didn t think my condition warranted coming in through the emergency department, and that I was causing other scheduled patients to have to wait. The doctor in radiology wasn t very kind or gentle, and I ended up with extensive bruising from the procedure. Some medication would have been nice during the procedure since it was completely horrific, but they didn t want to take time to start an IV, and I m unable to swallow pills.
Overall, Pierre the ED nurse and Dr. Evett were fantastic. Radiology was full of angry people from the nurse on up to the radiologist. Thankfully, I believe the procedure was successful despite the experience.

While the docs and nurses appear to be very good there is something wrong here with over-crowding. They have an ER sign that says the wait is 12 mins. I brought my wife here today at 4:20. She is very sick with a gallbladder problem and finally saw a Doc and nurse at 8:15. My wife is laying on a gurney in the hallway. Everyone is talking at the top of their lungs with no respect paid to the many patients lining the hallways all of whom appear quite sick. There is no privacy. (HIPPA is a bit of a joke here). I know all about the patients problems within ear shot of my wife s bed. Healthcare inS/W Virginia sure leaves a lot to be desired. Again the nurses are working their butts off but.........

I felt that I was forced to leave the hospital the 3rd day even though I was so sick with Covid. I should have been able to stay longer as Medicare would have covered my stay. I did have good Drs and Nurses. Also, the cleaning staff never would empty the bathroom trash can even though I mentioned it to her.

Covid is no joke!!!! I took it too lightly until I needed the services of Lewis Gale. The Emergency annex at Tanglewood was WONDERFUL....Highly skilled and efficient staff worked quickly and efficiently. From there my seven day stay was well appointed. From Dr. Jim Witten and his team of specialists, I received the utmost of care. The nurses are to be commended.....they are in a "war zone".....fighting a deadly disease. Lewis Gale has always been my hospital of choice. In this potentially fatal situation, they did not disappoint in the least.

My grandfather was recently put in the hospital when he has Alzheimer's. Lewis Gale Medical Center treated him and my entire family with awful disrespect! This place is absolutely awful, from the case manager "worked hard to find him a nursing home" to be in to get out of the hospital. After he stayed in the hospital for a few weeks, he was released to a nursing home for a day and then returned after the nursing home was lied to about his condition. The case manager LIED to the nursing home about what he was capable of doing as well as his behavior. The nursing staff was very friendly and knowledgable to the entire family but one of the main problems was that they never talked to each other (including doctors, who never talked to the family about what was happening) about the treatments happening during their shifts. After he was transferred to another hospital, we talked to the case manager to better understand what happened with the horrible treatment and asked for her name, she replied "all you need to know is Jean." These people treated my entire family horribly, never telling us what was going on with my grandfather before they did it. We are NEVER going to deal with this hospital again!!

I have VERY SEVERE ASTHMA.. I have been admitted into Lewis Gale 51 times with asthma attacks. The care that I get here is top notch. I have been referred to both MCV and UVA by my pulmonologist to have outside eyes look at my case. When I am in the hospital nurses treat me like family. They are constantly making sure I have everything that I need. In July 2015 I died and was airlifted to Lewis Gale where I laid in a coma for 10 days. I thank God for my Lewis Gail family. Because that's how I'm treated...... LIKE FAMILY

Hopefully I won't have to return too soon, but if I do it will be to this facility! Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful medical professionals!

Way better than the Carilion system. I'll never go back to a Carilion hospital for as long as I can help it. Lewis Gale took me right in at the emergency room when I was very ill while Carilion just made me wait for over 4 hours and stuck me in the Covid room with a bunch of sick people coughing with their masks off (I didn't have covid but the chances of the other patients giving it to me were insanely high). I never got taken into a room at Carilion so I left. Lewis Gale took me into a room within 10 minutes of arrival because they knew how serious my condition was - Carilion couldn't have cared less if I died in the middle of the waiting room.

My Grandfather was put in the hospital a few days ago and passed there. Through the time me, our family, and my Grandfather was there, the nurses did not know what they were doing after we told the over 100 times what was wrong, also they waited last minute to do something. The Majority of the staff was disrespectful, but there is few that were most helpful, very nice, actually listen the first time, and do everything humanly possible to help everyone. We would extremely thank Dr. (Jennifer) Mark for caring and working her hardest!!! She knows what she is doing!!! PLEASE remember tell them before you send a patience to Lewis Gale, tell them the main problem first with every single problem. Most of the nurse will intentionally avoid what your telling them whats wrong. I would hate to see any other person or family go through that experience... Hope this helps with your situation!

If I could give 0 stars I would.
The staff at this hospital is garbage. They have no care for the patient and do not even bother to talk to other nurses/doctors or check the patients chart.
The attitude that is given when simple questions are asked is disgusting.
There is no concern or care.
Profit is the only thing happening at this facility.

Lewis Gale no longer my "hospital of choice". Perhaps necessity, but not choice. I will be contacting their administration about poor experiences with my mother-in-law recently as well as myself 4 years ago. I will re-post once I have given them a chance to respond to me. However, they have put my wife, herself a knowledgeable nurse, through absolutely undue and disproportionate stress in their premature discharge of her mother. Their assigned at-home healthcare professionals have confirmed that Lewis-Gale did NOT act appropriately.

My stay was wonderful overall. The only issue I had was with the lab phlebotomist that came and took blood during my preop. She was rude she was uncaring and she jabbed me and still a week plus later I have a bruise on my arm where she did not take the care to take blood from me. All of the other experiences I had with all of the Lewis Gale staff were wonderful except for her.

Took my father here because he collapsed at home and was throwing up blood after being in the ER for over 5 hours they came to the conclusion that he had low potassium (even i said it was BS) 2 weeks later rushed him to RMH (was not taking him back to LG) for worsening symptoms, they immediatly admitted him for liver failure and bleeding in the esophagus he died a little over a month later. it took those drs not even an hour to figure out what was wrong with him and all Lewis gale could come up with was potassium deficiency after 5 hours ive had more family members die at lewis gale then anywhere else and really feel like those "drs" and i use that word loosely should really be looked into cause either they dont care or they dont know what they are doing. Idk how throwing up blood is saying oh eat a banana everything will get better.

As always, I never have to wait for my appointment with Ruth Peevey, FNP-C. From the moment our appointment begins, it is obvious that she has studied my file and is up-to-date on everything she needs to know. She asks questions, makes suggestion and discusses options. She listens to what you have to say and together a plan for your care is developed. She is knowledgeable and caring and I hope she will be my FNP-C for many years to come.

We arrived at 7pm tonight. My fiancee was having abdominal pain. It took 5 hours for them to do blood work and a CT. They never gave us a room, yet they gave everyone, and I mean everyone, who arrived after us a room. We sat on a stretcher in the hallway for over 5 hours watching people come and go while we just sat there. I understand that hospitals are busy at times and it takes a while for things to get done but this was ridiculous. We felt neglected many times, ignored even. This was a horrible experience I wouldn't wish on anyone. I'm still here at the hospital waiting for them to get the IV out. It's currently 12:19am.

Update 7/31/2019 In response to your reply. If calling you and discussing my concerns actually made a difference, you wouldn't get negative reviews like the one left by me.

I was seen in the ER today in pain from a kidney stone and UTI (with severe pain and blood in the urine)! We usually go to RMH, but with flu season in full swing and the ER wait time being so long, we figured we could get in faster at LG! My husband and I were both very disappointed in our experience. While there, an adult male pulled his IV out and waked out of the hospital and re-entered thru the ER doors! He seemed disoriented! When they took him back to his room, not one person had noticed he was gone and what he had done!

Not one person asked me if I was on any medications, didn't ask about my medical history... they started an IV in my arm (but it was never used! No fluids, nothing for pain! They only drew blood from it!). We were there over 5 hours and was not even offered water or anything for pain! I have never had such little contact from nurses in an ER and NEVER not been asked about my medical history or what medicines I take!

A majority of the people in the waiting room was there for something mild (a cold, sinus infection, rash, etc). There were only a few people there for emergencies or extremely sick or in pain! I'm so shocked how many people came to the ER, when they could have gone to velocity care! They took away valuable time for those in true need of ER treatment! When I asked a worker about this, they shook their head and said, " they come here so they don't have to pay"! I'm so disappointed that people have come to this! It is so unfair people use the ER like this, taking away precious time and care, needed for true emergencies!

Excellent surgeon: Dr. Robyn Hakanson and her assistant, Christian Conrad (Orthopedics). I give Dr. Hakanson five stars for her amazing performance, genuine concern and patience. I give her my highest recommendation. I was so amazed by my recovery room team, especially Nurse Somer Montgomery. She and her team treated me with exceptional care. They also kept in close telephone contact with my husband. The anesthesiologist, Dr. Wesley, was very comforting and knowledgeable.

Although my discharge nurse was rushing and impersonal, she apologized. The physical therapist was good. The occupational therapist came at the same time the discharge nurse came which was an unorganized time; she left abruptly; I am not sure what her role was. Aside from the disappointment with my discharge nurse, I was truly comforted throughout the night by Nurse Mary Aline. Had it not been for such an impatient, impassioned discharge nurse, I would give 5 stars. Overall, I am grateful for my surgical team and God s grace and healing. I called the cafeteria the day of my discharge to thank them for such delicious food.

Very frustrating experience. I had an outpatient surgery, needed to stay for observation, and my belongings were kept on the floor where I prepped for surgery. After was moved to a room two floors up, I was not able to get my things including my cell phone until I had family visit 6 hours later. Nurse line for feedback was covered with a computer so I couldn't use the landline to call that. Also understaffed but the ones that were there were incredible and attentive. I went in for my annual mammogram and everything was absolutely stellar at the breast imaging center but with masks on, when I arrived to the building and told the person where I was headed he couldn't understand me. It was kind of funny and a little embarrassing I kept saying "breast imaging" "mammogram" and he had no clue - but finally the woman next to him knew and guided me but of all things to have to say louder and louder!! It's just the times we are living right now. No worries.
