Your receptionist needs to be fired. Obviously she hates her job.

I have tried to use Legal Aid over a dozen times they wont ever take any case and they do nothing but cause emotional distress I don't see how they are even open and if they get government funding I would like to know what they do with it cause they sure as hell are not helping the people of knoxville with it. Would like to know if there is someone to report them to or actions I can take. They are that bad they deserve a 0 rating

I won't say much publicly, but thank you thank you thank you Legal Aid, especially Cristina Magrans!

I reached out and asked for help, it's a paid help program. They denied a simple mediation help with me without paying someone 2500$.

Totally agree with previous posts...no help whatsoever

I called one day looking for legal advice or maybe just a referral to a divorce attorney. The person I spoke to on the phone was rather rude and claimed that I was screaming at her on the phone and that she had to take the phone away from her ear. I was so appalled. Never once did I screamed at this person. And she still didn't even bother really helping me out with my situation. So I ended up calling the Knoxville Bar Association. And they helped me out plenty.

They were supposed to help in court manner but on court date all they did was shuffle it to someone else who in my opinion didn't want to do it anyway so they left us high and dry to defend for ourselves,thanks for nothing legal aid.sorry you dont have time to help the common people in knox county.

They could not help me with my issue after taking far too long to get back with me. Staff was friendly.

Needs to be closed and completely new courteous staff including the operator you first talk to fired. I don't know what they are using the grants and other funding for this place but they are DEFINITELY not doing their job..
I was upfront told before I even asked my question that she wouldn't put the call to an attorney.i told her that I qualified for this. She still refused. She was hostile.
If she is the first person this place hired to help navigate potential clients, and if they're needing a lawyer badly, they certainly don't deserve this treatment.
It shows badly on their character, which is supposed to be professional.
I also noticed that the there is a few reviews on here where the reviewer states they let family work here and they received help.

Seriously!! To get legal help here you have to WORK here!!

No wonder Tennessee is ranked 49 out of 50 states on many lists and survey, and even Federal statistics.
I would give it no stars. That's definitely the description of the entire state.
No wonder they're called HILLBILLIES behind their back. The way they treat people they prove it

This staff deserves a negative rating! I just got off the phone with Legal Aid. And by that I mean the lady who's name I think was Cathy, just hung up on me! I called cause my landlord is making unreasonable demands of me and I needed to get some legal advice on specific laws to deal with this lady. And all Id get in response was, "well just call back if she bothers you." I told her, this lady and her daughter have been continually harassing me for nearly a month now and Ive never done anything before, not even make a late payment in the almost 4 yrs Ive lived here. I told the lady I needed legal laws to deal with my landlord who is demanding that I vaccum 2-3 times a wk! And I even told this Jane Parker of REA that I have RA and asthma, and that is physically something I cant do, nor can I afford a maid. And she still said to me "Im telling you what you have to do to stay here." And still all this lady at Legal Aid could muster in response was, well just call back. SERIOUSLY?!?! Im calling now because this has been on going for 3 wks and its to the point that I cant even enjoy my privacy or feel safe in my own residence. And when I go to get some legal aid advice for a bully who is trying to set me up to be evicted, all I got was "WELL JUST CALL BACK IF SHE CONTINUES TO BE AN ISSUE." And then she has the audacity to hang up on me. SHAME ON YOU LEGAL AID. YOU DON'T DISPENSE ADVICE AND YOU DONT EVEN PRETEND TO CARE!!!! She could have said they cant take my case; but she didnt. She could have said let me take a message and I'll get back to you; but she didnt. She could have referred me to someplace else; but she didnt. She could have at least fained compassion and empathy by listening to my phone call and not hanging up on me mid sentence; BUT YET AGAIN, SHE DIDNT. Word of advice for Legal Aid if you are going to hire someone who just says the same thing over and over again, save yourselves the money and just hire a damn robot! It sure felt as if thats what I was talking to! Ive never experienced that level of rudeness and disrespect in my life! SERIOUSLY SMH. Ive had many customer service jobs in many different sectors and you know what the number one rule is?! ITS TO LISTEN TO THE CUSTOMER. My advice to anyone, no matter how desperate you are, is to avoid wasting your time with this place. They dont show any respect or even attempt to care about the issue(s) you are currently facing.

All of these reviews are right they act like your bothering them.They didnt even try to refer to some one that could help. Why are they even there i dont understand

Best legal aid in the country. They even let my wife work there.

They were very helpful in directing me to where I need to go to get help.

I would not recommend this service to anyone. This lady asked me all kinds of questions and then told me i was over the income range in order to receive help from them. Idiot your first question should've been about my income and i would've found out then that you couldn't help me. Wasted my time talking to you. Ughhhhh. They need to train their people better. And she was rude. She kept interrupting me.

Absolutely no help came from this place. A waste of gas and time. Might as well do your own research for representation.

Staff is completely useless. All they do is refer you to the website which insists you apply and offers no other advice. Neither the staff nor the website will even tell you what sorts of things they could help you with or what qualifies you for assistance.

It is a grate place to go with the family and friends

I spoke with an attorney from legal aid at the courthouse who was willing to work my case and said that it should be relatively simple. When I went into the office, the paralegal who had approached the front desk told me that they could neither help me OR give me any advice except to represent myself and hope for the best. She wouldn t let me speak to any attorneys or even let the lady at the front desk get in a word. Why is this organization even open or funded if they refuse to help?

If I could leave zero stars, I definitely would! The receptionist is very rude and will hang up on you. There is absolutely no level of professionalism that makes this okay. People call to get help with questions and/or to find out where or how to get help with their questions and are hung up on. This place should hire a receptionist with some respect and courtesy or they should forfeit their funding and close so that others can step up in their place.

Wow, I read the reviews of this place before placing a call myself. I spoke and asked a question in as polite of a tone as I could muster, and the lady on the phone acted like I insulted her somehow? Replying, "we don't do criminal law or that kind of law here", and then hanging up on me! Amazing - it was a simple question..

Great people that really care. Legal Aid is a government funded agency that offers legal help for no charge. This limits their capability and what types of cases they can take. Please be reasonable and patient: the red tape isn't their fault.

I needed help with a form I didn't understand how to fill out they just explained where to go to download it I already had it downloaded.

I had an emergency that came up and I needed a legal question answered. Just ONE simple question. That's it! All it required was one simple answer.

I called Legal Aid of East Tennessee and they would not answer my question without some stupid intake process which could take days. Well, I needed that question answered immediately and didn't have time for all of that red tape B.S. This place is useless and is not worth a da#@n. Don't waste your time with these people.

These people are so condescending and rude I can't believe they think they help anyone. I've asked for legal advice on a couple different occasions and not only have they never helped they've made me feel hopeless.

They really didn't help me out turned me away but it is alright

You d think a legal service would be polite enough to answer questions. I was screamed at, disrespected, and treated rudely. My questions were not answered, I was told it was my fault and I had to deal with it.

What kind of service is this???
If you re seeking help or advice, do not waste your time calling these people. I ve never felt so disrespected when seeking HELP.

If you read other reviews, you ll see that the majority of us are hung up on and told too bad by a lady named Cathy.

Business is loosing customers because of this.

The Lady that I talked with was Very Callous and Cold. But I can't honestly say how their legal aid is.

Just checking contact info for a friend. It was easy to find on the website.

These folks were wonderful to me. They gave me great legal info without having to pay thousands for it. I was just so pleased with the staff and the completion of my case.
