I'm sure this is a great place for animals who have a chance at life. But they also offer end of life services at a cheap rate. My mom, who's on social security took her cat there. He was 18, in poor health, and it was time for him to go. But he panics in a carrier, so anytime Mom took him to a vet, she wrapped him in a blanket and held him close. When she got to the shelter, the first thing they did was tell her she couldn't go back with him, then put him in a cage and took him away. So the last thing this poor cat knew was being in a cage and being handled by strangers. After preparing herself for months, Mom was devastated. Just a word to the wise, if you love your pet and can afford to take your animal to a regular vet and pay for end of life, do it!

This is hands down the very best humane society I have ever seen. We adopted a beautiful 15-year-old boy we've named Riley today. All of the animals seem very relaxed and are very well cared for. There's a very calm and loving atmosphere. All of the staff and volunteers are exceptional as well! Wow!! I highly recommend going here for your next furry family member!!

The new building is AMAZING! All animals seem happier. I just adopted my dog a month ago from here. His name was Charlie but we changed it to (Sanders) he's so amazing and doing so good and is now my service dog. Everyone here helped so much a they were very understanding that I needed to visit with him for a lengthy period of time to make sure he was a good fit.

This place seems to enjoy killing when other options exist. It is totally unacceptable that you killed Linda. You never gave her a thorough examination or a fair chance. You didn t even listen to the rescue with witnesses about the dog you just took the word of the people that dumped her there. This was the rescue s dog and they were willing to do anything and everything to get her back and you should have released her back to them you had absolutely no right to kill her. It s just plain evil. You are inhumane . Shame on you all.

I volunteer as an adoption counselor and sometimes work at outreach events. The facility is absolutely beautiful and if you haven t yet seen it you should check it out! Sometimes, we take in transfers from other shelters when it is felt that the animals would have a better chance of getting adopted here.

The staff is all dedicated to providing the best care to our animals. No animal is allowed to be adopted until they are deemed to be healthy and we have vets on staff. Dogs and cats are microchipped, vaccinated and if not already done, spayed or neutered. It s a great place to volunteer and there are several opportunities to provide different types of services. You can be a dog walker or a cat walker!

The Larimer humane society current statement: When...

The Larimer humane society current statement: When every other door in an animal s life closes, ours are open. We provide love, care and shelter to homeless, lost, abused, unwanted and abandoned pets.
Let's rewrite that with the truth: When every other door in an animal's life closes, ours are open to deny it proper evaluation, visitation, and fair consideration, while denying its return to its legal owner or rescue facility, as we walk it down the hallway to death. You can't have your dog back alive, but we'll wrap it up in a garbage bag and toss their remains into the back seat of your car. True story. This actually happened.
Tip: Don't EVER attempt to have an educated conversation on animal behavior or options in care with the overpaid management staff. They take offense to difference of opinion and will go to any length, including executing a defenseless animal, to "prove a point". Then they'll attempt to cover up their inhumane actions with lies. It's time for change.
You killed the wrong dog on June 6, 2019. Justice for Linda.

The staff is super helpful, the facility is very clean, and the adoption process couldn't have been any easier. The rooms available for one to spend time with an animal beforehand was great, and allowed me to get to know our new dog Atticus. I cannot thank the staff there enough for their help and devotion to the animals in need.

Gorgeous facility. They have an amazing adoption rate which is why we went here when we were going to rehome our dog. The staff took a lot of time meeting with me and listening. They sensed I was having a hard time and brought a trainer out to meet with me. I won t go into the specifics on why we were reigning but long story short I walked out with my dog in hand and now I could never imagine rehoming him. I honestly think they saved me from making a horrible decision. Thank you so so much.

Such a beautiful facility. They have plenty of space for so many animals. They held an adoption event a few weeks ago where we got our new kitten. Their adoption fees are pretty high but it's understandable. They also have an awesome dog park and they have the ability to let their animals be in outdoor kennels too which is great for them.

WOW! what a great experience. We had the pleasure of working with the shelter manager Jennifer today when looking for a new pup for our household. We found her to be very knowledgeable and kind. She looked at who we had selected and actually suggested 2 other dogs... one of which was perfect for our family. I am so happy with their staff and their process and I am so happy to hear they are getting a bigger facility to help more animals. I highly recommend them and Jennifer is AMAZING... give that girl a raise!

I adopted a puppy from here recently.

I adopted a puppy from here recently.
This puppy was aggressive with recourses and would attack adults children and other pets in the home. Sometimes for no reason. I emailed them and the behaviorist that works there called me and gave me some tips and also informed me that they do not bother doing proper evaluation of puppies for any aggression or any issues like that. I was told that I would get a refund of the $500 I spent on adopting the puppy if I needed to bring her back. I determined that her aggression was a safety concern in our home so I had to bring her back. I was told that I could not get a refund but a voucher instead, this cant even be used for things like the toys or supplies they sell. I was furious. I will never adopt from the Larimer humane society again. My money was stolen from these crooks.

My cat escaped my apartment here in Fort Collins. ...

My cat escaped my apartment here in Fort Collins. 24 hours had gone by and I was getting worried so the first thing I did was check Larimar County's webpage. Sure enough, there was a picture of my Mr. B. I'm relieved that he's okay and I rush down there to pick him up. It turns out the random guy that brought him in there asked if he could keep him... and they let him! They let a random person take my cat. All they took from him was his name and number. They didn't ask any other information. Turns out the guy lives in Denver. He took my cat 100 miles away and my cat, trying to find his way home, escaped his house.. so now my cat's lost in the middle of Denver and we will probably never see each other again. It's been weeks now and not a word. It's not like he's just going to show up, he's 100 miles away from me... I don't know if they were just being lazy, if it was just a judgment error? But I can't forgive them for letting a random person take my animal. I'm writing this review in the hopes that next time a similar situation occurs that they will hold the animal for a period of time to let the rightful owner come forward.

We had to put down our very elderly cat, CP (Couch Potato). I called around and learned this was something that could be done at LHS. Over the phone, they talked me through what to expect and suggested that I bring CP's favorite pillow, blanket, or similar. When I arrived at LHS, I was greeted promptly and taken into a quiet private room and given a few minutes with CP - in her basket with her favorite pillow. I had the option of staying in the room with her or not. I choose not, but after just a few minutes was invited back into the room. CP had gone very quickly and quietly, which I was informed indicated that her body systems really were quite weak. Again, I was given a few minutes alone with CP. Excellent, knowledgeable, and respectful service at a difficult time.

This is the most amazing shelter. Clean, well staffed, friendly caring people. And the cat enclosures are modern!
After my precious older cat died I went to look. I decided in his memory to take an older rescue kitty. Well when I met "Cat" I think we had an understanding. A nice quiet home to feel warm safe and loved. When we got home he shocked me by immediately purring, eating, rubbing all over me, and had this look in his eye of "Jackpot"!
I named him "Jax" and he is going to be the king of his castle.
He has been demanding love, playing and scratching on his cat tree sisal posts and hardly sat still, and this photo of him chillin' makes me so happy.

Fancy new building! We adopted a cat who's amazing, but there was confusion and the adoption process took a long time because they said he couldn't be around other cats, yet he was in a cat colony when we went to look at him!

I have adopted animals from LHS, served as a volunteer foster care mom to abandoned animals and have relied on their Animal Protection and Control officers to help when I ve encountered and secured a lost or injured animal in need. I ve traveled and have lived in other parts of the country, but have never been more impressed by the level of compassionate wisdom and professionalism exhibited by the staff members at the Larimer Humane Society. I encourage you to volunteer, donate, and adopt!

The Larimer Humane Society is one of many Humane Society s that are non-kill animal shelters. They strive to make their animals healthy and able to be put up for adoption so that people can come and adopt a dog, cat, lizard, mouse, rat, bunny, etc.

This place should be renamed Larimer Inhumane Soci...

This place should be renamed Larimer Inhumane Society. Let me tell you about a sweet dog named Linda. Linda was adopted to a family who decided they didn t want her after having her for a year. The adopters claimed that Linda was aggressive and attacked their new puppy, after telling the rescue that Linda came from that they simply didn t want her anymore because they got a new puppy. Larimer Humane Society took Linda in and refused to give Linda back to the rescue she came from, despite there being a legal contract stating that she be returned to them upon surrender by the adopters. LHS told the rescue that Linda would NOT receive the full evaluation they guarantee on their website that every animal will receive. They took the word of people who abandoned Linda, with no proof of Linda being aggressive toward people or other animals. On the other hand, the rescue had videos and pictures of Linda from her time in foster care, socializing and playing with other dogs of various ages. LHS determined immediately that Linda should be euthanized. LHS received hundreds of phone calls in the days following the decision, including from me. When I called, the person I spoke to was extremely rude, asked what my relation to the dog was and hung up on me when I asked what I could do to prevent Linda from being euthanized. When a friend of mine called, the same woman laughed at her and told her to get a life. A couple other people I know called and left messages in an attempt to save Linda and their calls weren t returned. And another friend of mine called and before she could finish her question, she was hung up on. The public outpouring in support of Linda continued for a few days. The director of the rescue worked tirelessly to get Linda back and when the information was shared that the news was getting involved, LHS KILLED Linda. There was supposed to be a delay in effect to keep Linda alive while a power struggle continued, but Jenn Barg made the decision to murder Linda for absolutely no reason. I don t know how she can sleep at night knowing she is taking the lives of innocent animals. Unfortunately, Linda isn t the first example of this happening. Several other dogs have been murdered at LHS, under the supervision of Jenn Barg. LHS has a multi million dollar facility and operate under the facade that they actually care about animals, when in reality, they make more money killing animals than saving them. This place is an absolute disgrace.

I adopted a cat there in Jan. The process was easy, and it's clear the staff care deeply about the animals in their care. They were straightforward about fees and subsequent vet visit. They followed up by phone a few days after I brought Isabel home, to see how things were going, and had advice about some food issues. Due to COVID you do have to wait outside and they limit the number of people who can come in, and the number of animals you can see per visit(2). Overall great experiene.

I unfortunately had a pup that ran away from a sitter and he got hit then ultimately picked up by your facility. The facility itself was super nice. The staff super polite, helpful and friendly. The reason for not giving five stars is because its damn near impossible to speak to someone on the phone there. Then when I finally did get a call back or through to someone they were like "we cant tell you who we picked up, you have to come down here and look". As you can imagine I was in crisis mode looking for my puppy, so having to drive across Loveland just to see if they had him by chance was kind of frustrating. Luckily you did, and luckily he was safe and great, so i appreciate you picking him up, but wish it was an easier process. I do appreciate what you do though. So thank you.

In September 2019, we adopted Milo at the Larimer County Humane Society. Milo needed to be in a home with an active family without young children. So, he was perfect for us! Milo now has a little sister and has adjusted to our life nicely.

The staff at the humane society really is top notch. Milo doesn t like most people, but he loves women and younger teens and I attribute that primarily to the staff that took care of him.

Wish I could give it no stars. So heartbroken. They refused to go rescue a dog who had been sitting in the freezing cold snow for hours in the night. The whole neighborhood is concerned, but no one there seems to be. What's the point of an emergency line for pet protection if you are not going to protect the animal? The woman I talked to tonight was incredibly rude and worthless. How can your mission statement be to further the compassionate, safe, and responsible relationship between animals and people if you do not truly stand for it, and have no compassion yourself??? This is a HUMANE society, have some humanity. I am truly saddened that the cities of Loveland and Fort Collins maintain such a lousy, pathetic excuse for an animal shelter.

When I adopted my dog is had to shave him and found a skinny dog under a large matted mess that even had bugs. It's sad when he had sugeries a week before. Why didn't they shave him and clean him before that so he didn't get an infection? 2 issue with them. 1st one was wrongful death of a dog they didn't have paperwork to put down of mine. Just a hold because he got out.

Wonderful and caring staff. Animals are very well taken care of and volunteers will give anything for these animals. I greatly encourage adopting from shelters like this one. These animals need help and deserve a good home. The staff and volunteers not only put the animals first but also but the customers first as well. They will always help you visit a pet and will happily give you information on each animal. They obviously know the animals well! So thankful for organizations like this one.

Publicly sharing my response to a "How was your ad...

Publicly sharing my response to a "How was your adoption experience" survey from LCHS:

First let me say that we are thrilled to have adopted a dog, and happy that it was done via the LCHS. But this question is asking about the experience, and to be honest it wasn't great. I have a Loveland address, but it's roughly an hour to reach your facilities. With nobody answering the phone or emails, there was no way for me to put a hold on the dog we wanted, so we had to just take a chance and drive over. With a wait time - once somebody finally came to the door - of over an hour, that means we'd invested at least 3 hours in what we expected to be a waste of time. And I would add that this was not our first visit to LCHS. A previous visit had been completely for nothing. If you think of each aspect of the process as either having a Deterring effect or an Encouraging one, there's too much Deterrent here. I know COVID will be used as an excuse, but that's exactly what it is. People can find a way to get important things done.

I also think the price tag is awfully steep, in comparison to equivalent facilities elsewhere. We adopted a puppy for $300 in Austin last year. Why is LCHS double? Deterrent!

On a positive note, a lengthy paperwork application would have been an additional Deterrent, and I commend you for not having one; I strongly suggest that you keep it this way if the primary goal is to help put homeless animals into the homes of people who want them.

My friend surrendered my dog because he attacked her boyfriend because her boyfriend was abusing him and originally we were told that we had a 10-day period to come pick up our dog and today they called us and let and let us know that they're going to euthanize him but they would wait until we got there to do so. So we drove from Denver to Fort Collins A Hundred Mile round trip to go say goodbye to our dog and when we got there they already put him down. They refused to let us see him and say goodbye. That was it Humane it all I highly recommend not to come to the shelter because they don't care about the dog or the person at all.

The staff that attends this place are extremely friendly but a big flaw they have they do not respect the hours that they themselves chose because they open 15 or 20 minutes later, in addition to olympically ignoring the people who are waiting to be served. Some of the people who had arrived previously preferred to withdraw due to the delay in adopting a pet, not everything is good nor everything is bad, if you choose to go to this place, be patient and wait for the unexpected because how they do not update the information in their website the hours are completely different.

Please do not donate to, adopt from or surrender y...

Please do not donate to, adopt from or surrender your animals to Larimer Humane Society. They kill perfectly healthy and adoptable animals!! I adopted a very sweet dog from them who turned out to have very bad anxiety and really needed a home where someone could be home most of the time (NOTE: LHS did not disclose this, only that she was not good with cats -- we described our situation to them thoroughly when we went to adopt and were told we would be a good fit). As my fiance and I both work full time, she was not going to be a good fit for our home. I called the Larimer Humane Society to discuss these situations, and after discussing the possibilities they assured me that based on these conditions they would try and rehome her for her own good and the re-vetting process would take a few days to a week and that I could call back to check on her progress. I called back every single day, and was unable to get a hold of anyone who could give me a status. I finally got through 3 days later and the horrible supervisor informed me that they had euthanized her and she proceeded to blame it on me. I was absolutely devastated because LHS first deceived me on the needs of the animal and then assured me bringing her back would be best for her happiness and safety due to our situation, but they just turned around and killed her, and blamed her euthanization on me. They are a disgusting and can hardly be called a "humane" society. RIP to Lady and all of the other sweet adoptable animals LHS has unjustly killed.

EDIT: Shortly after this review was posted, they called me to tell me they will issue me a refund on the adoption fee. While I am glad that they aren't just pocketing the money after this horrible experience, the real damage is permanent and nothing will bring the dog they unjustly euthanized back.
