I would give less than 1 star if I could. They booked an appointment for me to come down and apopt a kitten. I was very specific with them over the phone that I live over an hour away and they sold the kitten I had an appointment to look atand adopt, before I even got there for my appointment. I wasted 2 hours (round trip) of my time with 3 very disappointed little kids in the car with me.

Who is running this place??? I have been calling non-stop for 4 hours to no avail. If you hear the phone ringing endlessly for 4 hours why would you choose to ignore it? Is anyone at the desk providing any type of customer service? It's truly tragic because this affects the animals. If no one is there to greet people and provide information on adoptions, services, etc., who is going to return? How can you expect donations and the support of a community when no one can be bothered to answer the phone? How will anyone adopt a pet in need of a home? According to other reviews, it seems there is plenty of staff investing time in assaulting pregnant women and neglecting animals, you would think someone would answer the phone if for no other reason than to make it stop ringing. I am truly saddened that the cities of Loveland and Fort Collins invest finances in maintaining such a lousy, pathetic excuse for an animal shelter.

My son and daughter in-law had a 3 year old Great Dane who was a great family pet, unfortunately the dog was eating and their one year old was crawling by and the dog bit the child. This alone was devastating for them and recognized the need to surrender the dog to be "humanly" put down. Then called the larimer county humane society who were rude to them on the phone and told them that they close soon and needed to bring the dog to them because of his size. They had them complete paper work to surrender the dog and fully expected to be allowed to be with their pet while he was being put down. The people at the human society told them that the dog would be quarantined first to be tested for aggression. My son and daughter in-law had already informed them that the dog wouldn't pass this aggression test and wanted the animal put down. They told them it was too late for them to do this and "it wasn't a priority for them". Remember this was a very difficult time for my family and all they wanted was to be with their pet while he was being put to sleep. They then asked to have the dog released back to them until they could put him down and they said its too late, "you have surrendered him". Bottom line is they weren't sympathetic to the situation, and it seem they were more concerned about leaving on time. The are rude, and they do not explain their process well. Take you animals elsewhere.

Clean friendly and helpful. I found a list dog. Wish the paperwork had a TBD box instead of interested in taking this dog home if not picked up? I feel like she'll be picked up but it's be great to get an update.

A short haired lady with glasses, she has no heart. Cold blooded as hell. My cat was given away without my permission and her and all her cold hearted minions said there was nothing they could do. They said I should ve called and told them, when I had done so. I had called them several times in one week and was also constantly put on hold as well. They share no compassion as they just want to rid of the animals. It should be a place full of love. Instead, they have no hearts. I want my damn baby back!!!!!

We got a wonderful cat today and everyone was honest and helpful. They gave us cat food, tags, and a collar and helped us find a cat that's great with the kids! If you go within two weeks, you can see a free vet too. I'd recommend The Humane Society to anyone.

This shelter claims to have the well being of the animal as their goal but they have forgotten what the term humane means. They recently murdered a dog that was frightened and had been abandoned by pathetic people who adopted her from a rescue. When the rescue asked to have the dog returned to them per their contractual agreement with the adopters, the shelter refused and instead killed this dog. There is zero humanity in this action and this shelter and the people involved should be ashamed.

We had a neighborhood that came together to save a stray dog. They named her ladybug. After turning over an sweet but scared dog the Humane society decided the dog was not adoptable. The neighborhood reached out to rescues that we're willing to take her and the Humane Society would not work with them. The dog is set to be put down. I don't understand if a rescue was willing to work with her why this had to happen.

First off, the worst offence, they suggest putting down animals all the time. They over charge for adoptions so they can make money to throw into their oversized building.

Also if you want to report someone who has an aggressive animal, THEY WILL TELL THE PEOPLE YOU REPORTED ALL OF YOUR INFORMATION! That includes your names, your address, anything you write in your report. If you dont feel safe enough to include confidential information they will not follow up on the report and will ignore it.

Since this isn't a government controlled Animal Control building they have to report stuff to the police when it comes to having to find out more information on a suspect. So they will share that info with the police, which is fine, however sharing it with the people reported is asinine. That puts your family, your pets, and your property at even more risk, what sense does that make!?

This review is limited as I have not adopted nor surrendered a pet to Larimer Humane Society. The new location is by the Loveland Airport and is large. Outside there is a dog park and short hiking trails for dogs on leash. There are many services including putting your ailing pet to sleep. It's a very hard place but here it is affordable. Check it out - they are here to help pets and their human family.
After hearing a very nice dog was euthanized for growling ... I feel the staff may be hardened and urge folks to seek other choices for a better chance at adoption. Even though the facility is brand new and has loads of room .... look elsewhere for a more compassionate staff.

It's obvious this place really cares about the animal community. Their new establishment over by the highway is a super excellent improvement, and the staff just seems to want to help. My dog is a fence jumping adventurer, he seems to like the place, too.

Most of the one star reviews are concerning one do...

Most of the one star reviews are concerning one dog who had attacked other dogs and was euthanized. This story ran in local news and that causes keyboard activists to leave reviews without ever actually going to the shelter. I went to a human society when I was a child to pick up our lost dog. It was dark and dingy in an old building. I left feeling sad. I went HERE to this new facility and saw a bright beautiful building with great windows. Clean facility. Animals that were treated humanely. They had profiles on cats we selected which helped us narrow it down to one little guy named Baylor. A beautiful tabby, who purred when we went in private room. My son is 5, autistic, and obsessed with animals. It was time. Baylor made my son so happy and Baylor purred and followed my son. We get a free vet exam. We are very grateful that they rescued Baylor off the street and matched him with us. We will return to visit other animals as they allow that, my son would love to pet a dog, and I really hope to start volunteering sometime soon when my schedule allows. Great facility. Many animals will get homes and yes, some animals, unfortunately will die, but in a humane way.Thank you for making adoption process easy. We love Baylor so much.

and then he stated that we probably wouldn t be able to get a Public Defender, so we shouldn t bother getting a lawyer because it will just be really expensive for that type of hearing anyway. He should not be giving any type of legal advice, especially telling people to not hire an attorney. The list goes on. Whatever happens in court with these dogs is not going to stop me from exposing the Humane Society nor Bill Porter. I ve spoken to reporter Herald nine news and social media is the most powerful thing that I have. It s not yet put out there, but I m going to send you just a small piece of factual evidence I have about Bill taking money and not directing them to the County Clerk s office and euthanizing the dog before the 10 days were up. There are no medical records and no pictures in their case. I know what happened with my case is a serious issue, but the issue lies with me being negligent in not making sure the door was completely latched and locked like normally it is due to having company from out of town over. I m offering to the DA for myself to do jail or prison time for the penalty not euthanasia of the dogs and I m sure there are fines that come along with it. You guys (the Humane Society) claim to be transparent. Well, this is the opposite of transparent, more than I have ever seen, and I have everything to prove it and prove Bill Porter s lies. Trust me, if it s the last thing I do on this Earth it will be to expose Bill. I hope and pray that the people above him are not aware of what he is doing and how he is abusing his power, strong arming, and lying to people who are already distraught enough about the situations they and their pets are in....

Sincerely concerned

The workers were super nice, and the volunteers were very helpful. I wish they could walk dogs through the cat room just to see how they react, but other than that, they were very helpful! I really like they you can get a tag engraved there!

Never take a stray there - find a no kill shelter. These guys wait five days and if not perfect they put the dog down - so sad.

We brought a german shepard in - very gently and bahved - just scared. Two rescues offered to take it and train it - they said no - it's better off if we put it down! WHAT?!

Recently adopted a dog from there. I was not informed about the "animal at large" charges in their history, nor was I told she had a history or running. Not until the humane society threatened to put her down if returned because she was not considered an adoptable dog. Supposedly the information about the dog wasn't known until AFTER she was already adopted out to me. (No regrets, she's friggin awesome!)

But, after escaping and being intentional stabbed ny a maintenance man, the vet informs us that our dog DIDN'T GET HER RABIES SHOTS BEFORE SHE CAME HOME! Realise she didn't come home with a rabies tag either. At least they were sort of honest about one thing.

This is totally unacceptable and intolerable. If you are not going to help the animals. Dont do it. You charge plenty. SHAME ON YOU ALL FOR EUTHANIZING LINDA SHE DIDN'T DESERVE IT.

I am very disappointed and hurt, this humane society killed my friends dog and didn't even let him see Lucky first. He called 8 times and drove all the way there to get him but they wouldn't give him back nor let him even say good bye. This place is terrible.

My experience with them has not been great ones. They don't support small local businesses and won't share business information with clients that need training, pet sitting, grooming, etc, which are vital to new dog owners and shelter dogs. They have cat traps you rent for a small fee, which is good. They don't help those individuals that are low income. They do have a really pretty dog park with agility course, but have signs that say 20 lbs or less and 20 lbs or more, which poses a problem for those with multiple dogs being of both categories.

Once you arrive you will be given a restaurant buzzer they will take your name and then tell you to go wait in your car because each appointment is an hour long so good luck if you have plans for that day they lady in front of us had already been waiting an hour and still the parking lot had several other cars waiting as well. I went to turn in my buzzer seeing that I wasn t getting in any time soon and when I did I asked if I could make an appointment because I m serious about adoption and she said that due to covid they can t. Instead they let groups of people just randomly show up and wait for the day to hopefully get in... if the point of this place is for adoption wouldn t you want to ensure people can view the animals with convenience so that the process moves quick and they get new homes?

It is a wonderful facility filled with people who care for Animals. I'm disappointed with the reviews shown with a single star and what appears to a stream of gripes that appear on the narcissistic side of thinking from people who have clearly forgotten that many of the people there are there to volunteer. They are not paid staff and to be honest wouldn't need to be there if people were responsible pet owners to start with. I adopted two rats today and was greeted helpful supportive staff who answered questions. I left paying 20 dollars for my two rats free vet visits suggestions on care as they were wounded from some jerk dumping them. In my opinion I got more help and support than I would from Petco. If your not happy with the service at this facility voulenteer before you attempt to complain. Be a solution instead of part of their problem..

The phone rings and rings, answers are few and far between. When you do get an answer and file a complaint regarding an abused/barking dog situation, not much more is done about it. I don't know if its the city bureaucracy hindering these people's work, or if they just genuinely don't care to do their job, but nothing ever seems to get done or resolved. When woken up night after night by neighbors dogs barking incessantly, I called the police, who then pass the buck to the humane society, who don't find solutions:( such a bummer, larimer county needs. Water protection for its animals!

I adopted a cat here yesterday. The whole experience went so well! They did an excellent job of social distancing, and the appointment system made us feel safe and taken care of. Emily helped us with introductions to a cat she recommended, and we LOVED him instantly. He is now purring in my lap contentedly. I was pleasantly surprised by the ease of the process, the cleanliness of the facility, and the friendliness of the staff. Great job! Fuzzbert is in his forever home and he will be spoiled and loved for the rest of his days

I adopted a 6 year old male pit bull mix, named dimitri in the shelter but renamed to Diesel. They allowed my husband and I to go visit him multiple times while we were waiting on our lease to be signed. We waited 2 weeks for this sweet baby. And when we got him the shelter staff were almost in tears by the fact he was leaving and getting adopted. Sad but happy. He is such a pure ball of love and the shelter staff kept the love in his heart. When we adopted our precious boy he was out on his walk and immediately saw us and lit up like the Fourth of July. The staff were so helpful giving us information on a free microchip registry which he is now registered under my myself. I truly believe if it wasn t for LHS my husband and I would have this amazing sweet baby boy we have now. They were amazing to my husband and myself. Thank you LHS for keeping our sweet fur baby until he found his forever home.

Really great facility! They took into account current best practices for animals and resources for the community when planning. As a result, it's a place not just for adoptable pets but also anyone can bring a dog to their walking paths and dog run outside. Win-win for dogs, both adopted and waiting.

My limited experience was overall unpleasant. Simply, I inquired several times about a specific dog, but no response. When finally someone did answer, the dog had just been adopted the day before. Also, the information on the website is not updated regularly, even though it makes this claim. Please improve your professionalism and courtesy.

BEWARE:

BEWARE:

I was entrusted by my sister to help her through her 1st adoption process, as I have been supporting, donating, and adopting from shelters and Humane society's over the last 10 years. It's become a passion of mine and many around me. I have an understanding of "kill shelters" and the occasional need to put an animal down for the best interest of the animal. I have always respected that and looked to the staff of OTHER facilities as trust worthy and thorough in making that incredibly hard decision. That is NOT the case with this particular shelter!! The staff is extremely under educated and made a horrible placement decision with my sister. My sister was completely transparent with her abilities and what kind of a life style her and her fiance had. The dog the shelter adopted to them was not a proper fit for their lives AT ALL and out of the best interest and ONLY the best interest of this super sweet, loving, incredibly deserving dog they called the shelter looking for support. The shelter made one false promise after another, saying that bringing her back would be best for everyone and they would do everything they could to home her in a better suited/ better equipped family. I told my sister that all her tears would turn into joy, that soon enough she would realize she had made the right decision and "Lady" would have the home and attention she required for her happiness. This was Tuesday... my sister called everyday to check on Lady's progress with the "vetting" process the staff promised would happen. No answer day after day. Friday she finally got through to a supervisior who told my, already incredibly heartbroken, sister "based on what YOU told us we euthanized her". JAWS HIT THE FLOOR! No one EVER anticipated that sweet dog would be put down! And then they wanted to keep her money saying it was in her contract! They told her to come back and adopt another!! Why? So you can unjustifiable kill another completely adoptable dog and make her shoulder the blame!?! She told you nothing but how sweet and deserving that dog was. She had a contract but YOU made promises and broke them! I have never been so appalled and sick to my stomach. She trusted you! She went to do a good thing and you tainted her experience and abused the euthanasia process. Your a disgrace to everything that the process is supposed to be about! Your staff member was so cold and unsensitive in an extremely sensitive situation! How many dogs die a day there? How many dogs does it take to become that calloused!? Did that poor baby fight for her life? She wasn't ready to die! She didn't deserve to die. And my sister deserved compassion! They are both victims of your curl and inhumane ways. Shame on you!!

I have adopted 2 Guinea pigs from Larimer Humane Society. It was a pleasurable adoption experience. Not only did I receive two wonderful companions, but I was able to hear a thorough background about each of them and see their veterinary history. I was able to meet with multiple Guinea's in a visiting room until I found the right companions for me. I was never rushed into making a decision. I also received a free wellness exam to the veterinarian to make sure that they hadn't acquired any illnesses from living in a Shelter, which can harbor more diseases due to the amount of animals that they handle. My Guinea pigs were well care for when I adopted them. They had clean kennels and they had enrichment toys like cardboard food puzzles and novel chewing toys. I was blessed for 4.5 years with the smartest and sweetest Guinea pig I have ever met.

I appreciate that they are a Socially Conscious Animal Shelter and only make humane euthanasia decisions when it is in the best interest of the animal and the safety of the community. I know that these decisions are complex and never taken lightly. Thank you for keeping the animals happy and healthy, never making them suffer unnecessarily and keeping our public safe.
