At the end of a recent visit to a college classmate in Pennsylvania, I said, "Well,I have to go home now." And I suddenly realized that, for, the first time since moving to my senior community several month ago, I had called my new digs "home" rather than "Lantern Hill"! Coming here to Lantern Hill was truly a life changing event, and I had worried about how I would adjust to the food, the facilities, and the people. Especially after the stress of downsizing, selling my house of sixty years, moving, and unpacking! But I had lots of help from my kids and the sales staff here. I was happy right away with my brand new single bedroom apartment, the gym and pool, the restaurant, the maid service, and the lovely garden outside my windows. Never the less, it felt like being in a good hotel. However, this is a community, and the management, the staff, and the residents were all exceptionally friendly and welcoming. Almost everyone says a smiling greeting on passing in the halls. So I soon began to realize that this is a very special place to retire to. And the opportunities for socializing are amazing, ranging from discussion groups, drawing and painting, singing, woodworking, card games, jigsaw puzzles, exercise classes, holiday parties, lectures, concerts, daily movies, chime ringers, and too many more to possibly fit in. Further, everything can be accessed without braving inclement weather. My only complaint is that, because there is no well defined work week and week end, it is hard to remember what day of the week it is! Since I haven't been thin since college, you must know that I like to cook and eat. Well, the food service here is almost gourmet quality, far superior to anything I have experienced at the many senior residences I have visited to see old friends. Lantern hill has two restaurants, with weekly menu changes, but when I yearn to cook, I have a modern, brand new, fully equipped kitchen. I now liken living in Lantern Hill to being on an endless ocean cruise! I now wish I had transited to senior living five years ago. But Lantern Hill was still on the drawing boards then, and I would have been stuck in a far inferior place!

There are some great people that work here who make this an overall enjoyable place to live; and some that need basic customer service skills training. Some Staff get agitated and defensive. While it is not an easy job, some empathy and willingness to help can go a long way. Communication between departments is very poor; and feedback is not well received. It is very important to read and understand the terms of committing to a place like this before signing anything; and to evaluate the true cost of additional care if eventually needed.

We visited my step-grandmother-in-law here, and my takeaway was, "whoever's running this place loves beauty and has an eye for detail." I first noticed it in the decor. From area to area, the entire building and surrounding grounds feel more like a single mixed-media artwork than a collection of disparate pieces. The style of art ranges from photos to pure abstract, but all of it is high quality, and despite differing styles, the clever use of color makes each area flow seamlessly into the next. I enjoyed my time here more than some art museums I've visited. Beyond visual delights, there were a wide variety of activities, and as you might expect, many of them involved various ways to express yourself or indulge artistically in various media (including music, painting, and many more). I was only aware of its cleanliness insomuch as I was never consciously aware of it. I have an acute sense of smell, so this is saying a lot. Most retirement homes have a smell somewhere between "soiled" and "hospital," but I never smelled anything unpleasant or acrid during my visit - and that includes overly fragranced cleaning products. I just hope that when we're ready to retire, we can afford to do it somewhere as nice as Lantern Hills. In the meantime, we'll be visiting as often as we can.

While nothing is truly perfect, Lantern Hill for we "mature" folks is just about! To a great extent like being on cruise ship that doesn't move. All kinds of activities; a great pool, a great physical fitness center, a staff committed to service with smiles, a great chef, lots of social opportunities with nice people, and a whole lot more. You're safe and secure, and by the way, only one check once a month for living expenses. No real estate taxes, no utilities, and more for which you are no longer responsible. The apartments, first class and comfortable! The area surroundings, bucolic. Can't ask for much more!

Lantern Hill has more activities offered, on and off campus, than any one person could possibly want. All of the main rooms and corridors are bright and welcoming and kept impeccably clean, as are the grounds. The staff is warm and ready to help in any way. And the food is good!! My husband and I think it's a wonderful place to live out our senior years. There's a feeling of comfort, safety, and relaxation. Living here relieves the stress of maintaining a home. Our children are very pleased that we chose Lantern Hill because they see that we are happy and they don't have to worry about our care. Dr. Anne Johnston

This is a wonderful community for those in all stages of their life over 65. The staff is very friendly, and overall extremely accommodating to the needs of those who live in the community. There are a variety of apartments available, and all are extremely well done. Everything a person could need is basically available on the premises. If it isn't available on premises the front desk can assist in acquiring it for the community member (especially during COVID.) The kitchen staff work very hard to ensure all members have a fresh meal available to them, and delivered to their door during quarantine. They have worked very hard to ensure the safety of all who live here. I'm sad those who live alone in the community became incredibly lonely during so much of 2020, and worried very much for their emotional health. I do with Lantern Hill had done a bit more for these individuals. Since there was no access to the amenities, but they were being paid for, I believe they could have done SOMETHING to assist the single people to ensure their mental health was not quickly deteriorating due to lack of visits/communication/even sunlight. My hope is 2021 will bring a healthy, happy environment for all of us, but especially for our most treasured generation.
