A great discovery, timed as back as 1671 this hotel has quite a history behind it. Located in a wonderful scenic place just outside Appingedam i stayed there there for just one night. Room was very clean, spacious and the bathroom was alot better than expected. Had a little trouble with the bed but am guessing this was just me trying to get used to somewhere else other than my bed. Staff was really friendly, breakfast quite filling and lunch was very good. I was also amazed to see that it is well reccomended by Michellin stars. There is a huge forest behind the hotel where you can easily walk and enjoy the view.

a beautiful country house in the green. Nice short walking routes through the landscape garden designed by Roodbaard. High tea excellent: Delicious petit fours, sandwiches, scones, bonbons, tiramisu etc etc too many to mention. Friendly staff.

Great atmosphere and flair, not least because of the park, which is located around the estate. A very tasty high tea in a great fireplace room, which we also spontaneously enjoyed (without reservation). Also totally in price. Our room (in the bay window on the first floor with a great view) also totally fine, with a very well equipped bathroom. In short, there was really nothing to complain about.

Enjoy a walk, heron and crow's nest and watch, pick up chestnuts and have a delicious lunch, brunch or a nice drink. Nice petting zoo with playground for the little ones. Somewhat corny, little maintenance but cute

Not to eat bad rooms for 99 euros you expect a bit more but it was very but also very bad, for the rest the service was also not exactly friendly, the smell is stale inside not really nice it also looks not particularly clean out, a no go so everyone doesn't go.

Bit dated, small room.
Lovely staff, slept very well in the heat wave; room on the shadow side, in the green.
Delicious breakfast on the terrace, without flies / mosquitoes or the like

A beautiful estate with a good restaurant. The atmosphere during sunny periods is great, sitting outside looking at the building. Great for a walk on the jet estate, to eat afterwards. The kitchen is good.

Been there again after 55 years. As a child I often went there. They had a playground there and I remember peacocks. Still. Beautiful country house to visit anyway and have a nice coffee. A beautiful walk oo.

Beautifully located just outside appingedam various activities and options for eating, drinking, staying the night, buffets and meetings in one of the many rooms are some of the options definitely worth exploring the area and appingedam by bike or on foot. In the immediate vicinity there is the possibility to camp. Nothing like Groningen.

The area around the restaurant is very nice for walks or a visit to the small petting zoo with small playground. But our experience with the restaurant was really less. We were not greeted on arrival, it did not look inviting, and there was a lot of uncertainty about where we were allowed to sit. It was a little too fresh outside so we move inside. Our "waiter" passed us by, she didn't even recognize us from the terrace and we had to indicate that we were going from the outside to the inside. It was definitely not busy (we were the only one inside, and the second on the terrace), so we can't blame it on this. Again no inviting appearance, it smells musty, the decoration and atmosphere really leave something to be desired!
The food was good in itself, just a pity that my husband and son got their food first and I got it later.
We are absolutely not mosquitoes or people who have anything to complain about, so even for our "normal" standard it just wasn't good. So we did not give a tip either.
We do not come back here for a snack and / or drink.

Hotel in a historic building with more recent additions. Looks a bit neglected. Very small room with small TV that worked badly. Friendly staff, good breakfast. Dinner in 2 beautiful historic rooms. From the hotel you walk directly into the forest with hiking trails.

If you like rural, you will love the hotel. The hotel in the old mansion style is located in a secluded wooded area and therefore it is very quiet there. The hotel has plenty of parking, so even large XXL Sprinter can easily park there. Downstairs in the hotel is a restaurant with outdoor terrace. The breakfast has everything you could expect in the medium standard (bread, rolls, sausage, cheese, jam, boiled eggs, scrambled eggs (real egg), bacon (which was probably afraid of the pan), cereal and even fresh fruit salad with yogurt) ... you can not complain. The rooms have what you need and even a small fridge (mini bar). Wifi is free. Although the rooms are cleaned every day, but not too thoroughly as you can see in the photos ... and a minus point. Bottom line ... ok for Dutch, rural conditions and prices.

La Belle Epoque, restaurant of the estate and hotel Ekenstein. Tasty and good food in a quiet area in front of the fireplace. Food is good and plenty of choice for both food and matching drinks. Staff is friendly and helpful. Most guests are hotel guests. Enough parking spaces and easy to find for me. Price is average. Will I come back here again? Probably but then somewhere in the summer so that we can sit outside.

From the moment I entered, I were treated like royalty. The staff were fantastic with a smile and the service was impeccable.
Third time staying here and would recommend again and again.
Staff really prepared to go the extra mile for the guest.
