Lakes regional healthcare Review

PROS: Lakes Regional Family Medicine is wonderful. Doctors and nurses are top notch. On the hospital side of things, everyone has taken great care of our family for over night stays as well.

CONS: Buyer beware in regards to the cost/pricing for additional hospital services. I called the ultrasound department for a quote on the cost of a service and was given an incorrect/incomplete price. The SAME exact services are were covered at Sanford in Sioux Falls, not to mention the baseline charges that are not covered by insurance claims put in by Lakes Regional are AT LEAST 3x's the amount as in Sioux Falls. Worth the 1.5 hour drive to Sioux Falls when you are charged $800 for the same service offered in Sioux Falls for $300 and they up front about all charges involved in procedure. Secondly, the ER department is hit or miss. I've had one fine experience and another recently with a nurse that was RUDE.

The lady at the front is SUPER sweet! Went in today for an ultrasound and the front desk lady offered me a wheel chair to sit into cause radiology was in the back of the the hospital. She gave us specific instructions on how to get there and even though we got lost a few times, the staff members knew we were lost and didn t hesitate to help us get to where we needed to be!

Great staff members. Super friendly. And the outside was so beautiful! Definitely recommend.

I have mixed feelings. An ER team here probably helped save my life. I had a heart issue and my hometown in Minnesota was nasty to me and did nothing to treat me, so I drove here and ER staff that night really helped me.
(Anybody remember when medical facilities were safe?)
Since then, I have had some issues here and there. Their cafeteria/coffee shop will only take cash or check, so no wonder its empty - they eliminated half the population which cannot purchase their lunch there. Snooty attitudes at times and I think that has no place at a medical facility.

Update: Since I've traveled to different places, I do appreciate this hospital more. Spirit Lake was the last decent healthcare I found in the entire Midwest. I might give up on the Midwest.

We sat in the waiting room for 2 1/2 hours and left. People were coming in after us and got in sooner. If someone is wanting better service and faster care just drive up the road fifteen minutes to Spencer hospital at least they take care of you. What a shame for a small town hospital not to give you prompt service. I wouldn't step foot in that hospital again even if it was serious. Shame on our healthcare services in spirit lake iowa!!!!

Will never go back unless I m dying, I have a acute sinusitis and went to get antibiotics and got told that I m not getting them and they can t give them to me until next week, they take at least 10mins to answer the phone!!! Being the only clinic in town you d think they d be more responsive, also it s a week out to see a doctor??? Are you dumb!!!! People don t always have a week and you they just laugh when you tell them that. Absolutely horrible and will never recommend anyone to go here.

I went to the Emergency for a tooth pain & the first thing that the Dr Torstenson ( Chad ) said that they don t give Opioids for teeth pain. I don t take Pain Medicine it s in my charts that I get Very Sick. I don t know if he thought I was only in there for Pain Medication or What But I was told by My Dentist if it got bad to go to the Emergency for antibiotics. The Dr was Rude & wasn t in there long enough for me to Explain that I had a Root Canal & I have had a lot of problems with it. I would not Recommend this Dr what s So Ever ..

The newly renovated OB department is absolutely phenomenal; from the rooms to the whirlpool tubs,and from the "memory meals" to the incredible doctors, nurses, and aides. We felt like we were truly cared for and accommodated for at all hours of the day and night. Our nurses became friends, and we were genuinely saddened to leave the homely feel we came to know during our journey here.

The birthing suites here are better than most larger city hospitals that I've seen. We were thoroughly pleased with the care that we received and would recommend this hospital and the OB department.

Call to make an appointment for the next day cant make appointments for next day, they only do same day call in appointments never heard of it. Go in sick don't prescribe me anything still sick going to see a different doctor 2 hours away who will actually give me something to treat my cough/ figure out what's wrong I won't be back unless it's an emergency. Second time this has happened.

The staff is arrogant, not a good place to see a physician.
