well I am originally from El Paso, miss my authentic Mexican food and my mothers home cooked meals. have been to el Chaparral in Helotes since everyone raved about it, to my surprise this food was full of grease and extremely gross, then I went to La margarita and I have no clue why people say this isn't mexican food if this by far is about the closet I get to my mothers food (even though its doesn't compare to real mexican food), its pretty close, than most here) I have made it a tradition to head out there every Sunday for the past 2 mths and it has been a pleasant experience for my husband and I, only place that reminds me of back home, and the Mechiladas are sooo good. The food isn't greasy either which i fell people who are not really familiar with traditional Mexican food think that it should have grease layers, and it truly is not bathed in lard like most people think it is. Most bad reviews i think probably expected to have a plate of beans with a layer of lard and it wasn't.

Very good food, has a very festive feel to the place. They have Mariachi's walking around to play music, if you pay, and the food price was very reasonable. Great fresh seafood though I will say nothing blew my socks off. Everything was great but didn't cross extraordinary. Great place to bring a family or a large party. If you're on a date or small group I would say look for a mom and pop style place if you want authentic Mexican experience.

This was our first time going to the restaurant and the live music was great. The food was not good at all. I had fajitas and they came out cold, my mother's chicken enchiladas had bones in them. The chips were not fresh nor warm at all.

It was a very crowded Saturday night with live music and fair activities in Market Square. We choose to eat outside to soak up the music although it was a warm evening. Service was excellent as was the food. Price was very reasonable and a good location to entertain out of town guests.

This is where the margarita was invented. So naturally they're the best in the world. Not joking. Oh and I had never eaten oysters or had the desire to try them until a friend convinced me to while we were here and they are AMAZING. Went here 2 days in a row during Texas independence weekend. The enchiladas poblanos were incredible and the pinto beans are the best I've ever had. If you go to San Antonio and don't visit this historic restaurant in historic market square then you're not visiting San Antonio. MUST GO.

Although the food and service was very good when we told the server about a email we recently got, they refused to honor it saying we had to show them the email. We are from Corpus Christi, Texas. We came down to celebrate our anniversary. We told them okay that's fine. But I think if any company sends out an email they too should have recipient of whatever they sent out... We had a good time, we just wish the Cortez family should of honor the email.

Very bad experience, there A/C unit was broken and didn't say or post any sign to there customers. People kept complaining and walking out. All they care about is making money with no regards to there customers. They finally opened the doors to let some breeze in but now we had to eat in the heat and enjoy the fly flying around our food.

Oyster and Shrimp Cocktail. I loved it even though my wife was a little apprehensive of all the oysters. And the shrimp was cut up into little pieces which I had never had like that before. The Micheladas were great as well.

My husband loved his beef fajitas, he stated they were flavorful and plentiful.
My beef taco salad was a different story. It was filled with whole spinach leaves and large sections of romaine. There was a very small amount of avocado, cheese, diced tomatoes and some beef strips. The multigrain taco shell was stale. The salad was not flavorful.

Celebrated 2 special occasions with family and ordered sizzling mixed fajita plate. The chicken was dry everything else was great. Expected better service since it was during non peak time during the week.

We had a reservation for 5 through open table to entertain our friends from england. We arrived on time but the hostess said we didnt have a reservation. I tried to show her our confirmed reservation on my phone but she just kept saying we didnt have one. They finally seated us in a party room with a party of about 30 people. So noisy we couldnt talk to each other. Food was classic mexican microwave. They cater to tourists who will never return.
