Unparalleled ,lovely beach to walk and watch. Website implies updated rooms,most aren't . Service and amenities nice. Food outrageously expensive. And they charge u if you bring friends in. But less expensive than a large chain hotel room.

My son is in the tennis academy at this resort and everything from entering the property to leaving, is top notch. Beautiful property, beautiful smiles and beautiful beach, everything here is done right.
For the price the rooms are extremely dated. We were disappointed when we walked to our side of the building and it looked like an old motel. When we entered there was a musty smell and we found a roach in the trash can. I let it slide since we had a super late check in and we were very tired so we disposed of the roach ourselves and went to bed. We were out and about the whole next day and came back at night only to find another roach in the trash can. This time I took the whole trash can to the front desk and showed it to the desk clerk. We were immediately upgraded to a 3 bedroom apartment suite right off the private beach. Problem was when we got to our room it wasn't locked so we had to wait for security to come and scope it out before we felt safe to enter. There was also a dirty dish in the sink and a dirty dishrag laying on the kitchen counter. The apartment was beautiful and we appreciated the huge upgrade, which is why I gave them 3 stars but I couldn't see returning and paying that price for roaches and dirty dishes. Otherwise the beach was lovely, the grounds were very nice and the staff was friendly.
Excellent grounds. The whole place is looked after. Professional, courteous staff. Incredible location. Tennis courts are in great shape.

Easy, laid back vibe, along the only private beach in California. Lots of Kyack instructions and good restaurants, only steps away, not to mention the famous Marine Room next door to the hotel.
Beautiful beach, love the services they offer. Had a barbecue on the beach here last year for my birthday and it was simply low-key and perfect.

We travel 3 to 4 times per month and have, until now, never stepped foot in a more run down, poorly managed hotel than La Jolla Shores Hotel. My family and I rented two rooms ocean front rooms.
First, the wrong room was assigned to us and we had a small room for all 4 of us. We called THREE times to ask for a rollaway bed before one was finally delivered. Then THREE times before our room was cleaned one of the days. I should mention that our television did not change channels and our air conditioner did not work at all the first night.
Fast forward to tonight when we desperately needed some water for my daughter- my husband went to the front desk and asked where the lobby water was. They said they were out and we could buy water from the vending machine in the garage. That would've been fine, except for the fact that we had no change on us and of course they have no ATM and could not charge $1 to my room to provide me change for water. their tap water is absolutely most disgusting thing I've ever tasted in my entire life. I called the front desk ask if there was anything they could do to get my daughter a drink and all they could do was put us in touch with room service where we are forced to pay for Fiji bottled water.
I have never in my life visited a more dirty, rundown, poorly serviced hotel as this one. It is absolutely astounding the lack of provision they have provided.
We will never be setting foot in this hotel again, and will recommend that all of our family and friends stay away, as well.
The beach club has the BEST customer service and is really a special place. Experiences of barbecuing out on the sand, something you can't do other places. So fun for my kids and creating memories for our family. We love it here!
Actually went here as part of J7 Productions fire dance team to do fire control and security. The staff was awesome and met every need we had . They really bend over backwards to make sure everyone is happy.
My family has been staying here for as long as I can remember and every time it is amazing. I absolutely love everything about this place, the golf course, the dining, the private beach, the wonderful spacious rooms...I could go on forever. You can walk out the gate and walk to several little shops and restaurants. Ten years ago our entire family stayed here for my grandparents 50th anniversary and this weekend we were back to celebrate their 60th. Thank you for another memorable family vacation, I'm already looking forward to the next time!

Fantastic location with the sounds of the ocean to sooth you as you step out from great meeting facilities.
This place is is amazing, the people are really friendly and it has some really tall palm trees that reminds me of Beverly hills. If your looking to improve your tennis game, you won't find a more beautiful place to do it
This place was wonderful. It sits right on the beach. Off season rates are fairly reasonable and the weather was great in November.
Being directly on the beach makes this a wonderful place to stay. The staff is beyond helpful and professional - they'll do anything they can for you. It's the best beach lodging in San Diego.
The food, drinks and people were great. I definitely enjoy having holiday dinner parties here

Gorgeous property. It is an older property and because of this, that you will need to anticipate tiny rooms. That is fine due to the history, beauty and location. Do not devote a good deal of time on your room anyway. The Marine Room Brunch last high wave is actually special. The hotel doesn't disappoint.
Only attended for a rehearsal dinner for a wedding but the staff and beach were amazing!

My absolute favorite place to play tennis. The highlight of my year is playing the National 40s hard courts tournament and National Father-Son Hard courts here. Bill Kellogg runs fantastic tournaments. It's a great facility!
This just wasn t the place for us. It was pretty expensive, and the rooms were SORELY in need of a renovation. I saw several families who come back year after year, so maybe it appeals to some.
The dank, moldy smell and ancient carpets and furniture just didn t do it for me.

Such a perfect representation of San Diego beach resorts. Would suggest it to any one.
Highlight are the ability to have bonfires and BBQ on beach nightly. A great service they offer for that! Grounds crew worked hard to keep the entire place clean every morning including a beach sweep with a tractor. Felt fresh daily. Food and service was solid in lone restaurant. Views everywhere were spectacular. Tennis and golf pros were nice, accomadating and patient with our annoying kids who didn't really know tennis etiquette. Front desk managers seemed lazy and slow to work or help. Rooms were decent and spacious and ideal in a 2BR suite for our family if 5. Place is huge and held our group of over 100 comfortably throughout.
