This is the second year we've had major issues with Kozol Brothers
The following is email correspondence from the area manager and myself about a broken coil box being supplied to our event. The last passage is from the GM:
Kozol Area Manager: After talking with our representative he said that there was a hole in the coil . and that he assessed the situation un tapped the barrels and moved them to the gymnasium to be tapped at that location. When the equipment was put on the truck it was tested and was in proper working order with no leaks before the event. I had suggested that you go with cans but you had said no you wanted bbls . I had explained that the weather would have adverse effects on our equipment. And it did the coil split due to the below zero weather. So with that being said we are not crediting any barrel

My Response: I m not sure where to start. So I ll take everything one by one based on the email.
1st THE TAPPED KEG: The tapped keg from the broken coil box was moved to the gym, we were able to use the Coors Light keg, but unfortunately not the Miller Lite.
2nd SWITCHING TO CANS: I m not sure if that s an omission to guilt, saying that you know you have faulty coil boxes so let s push cans, or if your implying that we re incompetent?
3rd THE WEATHER: Kozol dropped the truck off the afternoon of the 1st, we moved the coil boxes and bottles into the school about an hour later. It was about 20 degrees out Friday and only warming up from there. So if the coil boxes split because of adverse weather, it wasn t on our watch. When did the truck get loaded? Was it loaded overnight in your parking lot? Maybe that s when the water in the lines froze and split (-20 degrees Thursday night)? If that s the case, why didn t the other coil boxes have the same problems? I don t work at Kozol, so I don t know the answer for this - but why would you leave water in the lines in the first place? That just seams unsanitary to me. Why wouldn t you blow the water out? Especially if you were concerned with adverse weather conditions.
The coils and the box that we had issues with had problems! The coils and fittings were tarnished and corroded, the box itself had a musty / funky smell from the inside. That leads me to believe it was an older coil box and was on its last leg.
The other coil boxes supplied looked brand new, we had absolutely no issues with them they performed perfectly.
I d also like to touch on the excuse the draft specialist explained to us as to why both coils split by adding ice prematurely.
o We set up each coil box the exact same way, like we do every year.
Install the bottles and check the pressure
Tap the kegs and clear the lines
Once the air is out and flowing smooth, we add ice to the boxes
o Pretty simple and basic.
4th Payment: As soon as we have this issue resolved, the church will issue a new check and I will personally drop them off at Kozol.
you re a nice man and I like working with you. But, if your unwilling to see the fault here on Kozol s part please have either the GM or owner call me. Again, we should not be responsible for lost product due to Kozol s faulty equipment or possible weather related issue s we had nothing to do with.

GM's response: I have read your message below and understand your concerns. However, this is part of the risk of using draft beer there are a lot of variables, some out of our collective control that can have adverse effects, which is why Jim mentioned to you his desire to move you into package beer.
I m glad you took Jim s advice to have a draft tech on site, so he was able to diagnose the problem quickly, and minimize the loss of product. It s difficult to tell exactly how much would have been lost, but given the size of the cooler, the fact they were already at least partially filled with water and ice, it seems the loss was very minimal. I stand behind our equipment and staff as being the best in the business.

Entrance for the truckers is the one closer to the railroad... just follow the road all the way to back where you have docks.. watch out when checking in you can not walk around the warehouse.. just wait patiently for the forklift driver
