The first time I was there the barista made me a special drink because I wanted their spring drink but it has dairy in it. She was very sweet. I don t live close but I always stop when I m in the area. The only down side is they do not have large sizes to go (American problem).

The only coffee shop in St. Paul with a cappuccino that is even comparable to Italy. They actually do things right (hey Spyhouse, art in your foamed milk is nice but means nothing if the espresso sucks).

Very good customer service. Prices are high but there's no tax or tips so it actually balances out. Cheaper than a lot of places when all is said and done, and way better.

The best coffee in St. Paul of not the Twin Cities. The prices reflect the fact that they pay their employees well and refuse tips. But you get what you pay for. The best espresso pulls and great coffee drinks. Options and flavors are limited but if you enjoy coffee you will appreciate this shop.
Friendly staff, good pastries,
2 thumbs up, 5 stars

Amazing iced mocha, more of a chocolate flavor packed in there than any other coffee I've had. Not a great place to work for an extended period, though - the seating is a little uncomfortable

I understand that, in this day of using the cafe for a workspace, it might be necessary for the shop to charge enough to cover the cost of folks sitting for hours. However, Kopplin's and a few other boutique coffee shops in the area are stretching it. It'd be different if the most expensive cup of coffee I've bought around here wasn't also a lukewarm letdown. There's better coffee in town.

If you know what a good shot of espresso should taste like and love it, this is the place to go. Espresso is a drink that cannot be perfected by an amateur barista and these guys know what they're doing. Their regular coffee is great as well. 7/13/2016 Update: I'm upping these guys from 4 to 5 stars - this place is fantastic all around and their bakery is second-to-none. I've moved away from this area recently and am saddened by this loss - I can't find anywhere else in the cities that does it better than Kopplin's!

They are a bit pricey, but they open at 6am and they have well cultivated beans. They also have alternative milks such as oat which gives the creamy texture of milk. The establishment is local and interesting. But most importantly has great coffee and espresso!!

It's unfortunate that we have come to a point thinking that everything should cost 99 cents. If you want coffee that was prepared for you, by experienced and knowledgable baristas this is by far one of the top 3 in The Cities, best in St. Paul.

If you want a cheap cup of amazing coffee, you'll have to learn how to brew it yourself. Good luck on making your own espresso at home. Otherwise you'll have to be content in mass produced, cheap coffee.

As to the lack of decaf - '...just because it exists, doesn't make it right.' The decaffeination process strips most flavor out of a bean. Kopplins just prefers to serve only what they consider is good tasting coffee. Props to them for promoting the craft.

This place is the very, very best. They're friendly, knowledgeable, intentional, sustainable, AND they consistently serve the world's very best coffee. This place is worth the drive every. single. time. If you think the drinks are a little spendy, please re-read the adjectives used earlier, and consider what they are worth to you. If you're a coffee lover and you haven't been to Kopplin's, stop what you're doing and go there now. You'll have a new fav spot.

I'm from ND and the drink I ordered is the best coffee Ive had. I worked at Starbucks for several years and by far it was better then that. I wish we had that kind of coffee where I'm from. thanks for the great service and awesome coffee. I will be back!!

A classic 5 star coffee shop...has been offering excellent coffee/latte/espresso for years. offers Rustica pastries (my favorite) and small bites to accompany the coffee drink. 'Quality' is key/important here.

They have really good coffee here. The prices tend to be higher than other local coffee shops near it, though, and it is sometimes hard to find a spot to sit. I also have gone there a couple times to have a pastry, but they had either nearly or entirely sold out of them.

One of the best coffee shops in town. They serve only the highest quality coffee and they are experts at their craft. Stopped in today for a macchiato and it was spot on perfect and reasonably priced. And a bonus: they partner with Rustica for sundry bakery items. That gingersnap won t last long. Snap.

The level of pretention is unbelievable. I asked for a travel mug worth of drip coffee and they measured out 11 oz and refuse to fill the mug up further stating they have only one size of drip coffee. I asked for a cappuccino and they said they only do cappuccino in house, not to take away. With the number of coffee shops available why in the world would I ever come here again?

Kopplin's has amazing coffee. They select their beans from samples they receive and when they find something they like they roast it themselves. This dedication to quality is also evident when you talk to their staff who are all extremely knowledgeable about the processes behind every drink they serve you. The community is perhaps which stands out most though. Kopplin's is a place you can come to meet friends or make new ones. This shop is a social catalyst of sorts and the atmosphere thrives because of it. Do yourself a favor and stop in.

Such an amazing tea and coffee house. I tried the Cherry Almond tea with macadamia milk and it was Fabulous! I have ordered lattes here before and was also pleased. Great service and great beverages.

Pleasant vibe and really friendly baristas; dark chocolate lovers should splurge on their signature Mocha. Starts at $3 for an espresso and goes up from there. Drinks were heavy on the milk side; get an espresso or macchiato if you want to really taste your coffee. Not a great place to work, but good conversation atmosphere.

The espresso is damn good. Their beverages are expensive ($6 8oz mocha, etc) in order to provide living wages and PTO to their employees, FYI, should the menu prices surprise you! 4 stars for the price of their (delicious) goods.

PS no refills and no decaf.

Kopplin's is by far the best place to get coffee in the Twin Cities. I especially enjoy the mochas, which are crafted from outstanding ingredients, but the house coffee is excellent as well. Pastries are delivered fresh daily and a butter cake or soleil makes a stellar breakfast. The atmosphere is welcoming and the baristas and owner are very knowledgeable and engaging.

I have not yet tried the Izzy scoop topped with an espresso shot but come warmer weather, that will be high on my to do list.

Best coffee I have experienced in the Twin Cities... Not even close to Starbucks. Four stars only because these artisan coffee shops (for whatever reason) are incapable of hiring unpretentious staff.

Wonderful espresso, smart/knowledgeable barista. The owner is a true Coffee Guy, in love with coffee and what it can be. Great experience. And, yes, a stop in at Izzy's makes it all even tastier.

Kopplin s is by far my favorite coffee shop in the cities. Their owners are just delightful and their coffee is smoother than butter. Paired with Rustica bakery treats and a warm, friendly environment, Kopplin s brings joy and community to the Marshall Ave community.

Kopplin's has one of the best cups of coffee in the Twin Cities. The baristas always seem like they are trying to hard to be cool, and not just be nice and pleasant. Well worth the trip, the service is awkward.

I've been here two times in the three years that it's been my neighborhood coffee shop.

The drinks are okay, but the prices are obscene. Yesterday I paid over $8 for an iced maple (they didn't have vanilla syrup) latte with oat milk. That's two dollars more than the other fancy independent shops that I frequent.

Not worth it for me. But a good cafe to sit and work if you don't mind emptying your wallet.

Never going to this place again. The barista ladies only acknowledge you if you're a 40 year old yuppie or a St. Thomas hunky hipster. Everything is over-priced. Staff were pretentious and rude, coffee tasted good but $3.00 + $1 tip cup only got me about 4 sips, and you have to ask for the milk/ cream because they keep it behind the counter just in case you wanna walk off with a half gallon of milk... ? Dumb.

Great drinks, particularly the cafe con panna. The staff is friendly and good humored. They are also honest (which is rude in MN) that they don't make drinks which are not on the menu and I have seen customers put off by this. I like the fact that several of the smaller drinks are not on made to-go (espresso and cafe con panna come to mind) which means less waste going into the landfill. The owner pays a living wage by charging more and not accepting tips, which does make for a happier staff.
Always a great mix of customers there should indicate how welcoming they are. Old man Kopplin has done a good job creating great tasting drinks and a friendly environment.

Love the atmosphere, love the employees, love the music selection, and above all - the coffee. You truly can't go wrong here! Do be aware that the prices are higher than most places in St. Paul but they pay their employees well and give them benefits. Some coffee shops in the area charge the same or margionally less and don't do that for their employees. Love being part of this community and supporting this business!

A regular brewed coffee (which they only do pour-over) costs $3.75 and they didn't even fill up an 11oz cup. The flavor was overall rather bland.
This might be a good place for specialty drinks, but if you're just looking for a solid cup of Joe, this isn't great.
The ordering was confusing, the menu was tiny, and the place felt crowded as it was mostly taken up by the counter. Also the smell was off-putting and reminded me of urine.
The staff was friendly enough, though it was a quick encounter so not much to say there.
