We spent a week in this wonderful hotel for our honeymoon. Everything was excellent: service, staff, rooms, meals ...
Thank you for your warm welcome, we enjoyed ourselves. It is a very quiet hotel with a paradisiacal beach. We made the right choice by coming here because we even had a hard dinner on the beach for our honeymoon as well as a 30min massage in duo it was exquisite.

Lovely hotel with great looking beach. The room (villa) was large with good spacing. Excellent food options for both breakfast and dinner(both were including fresh fruit bar). The beach is very good with with sand and not crowded. The water is clear especially at high tight. No coral reefs near, only sandy/grass bottom (not good for snorkeling) and the water gets muddy on bottom at low tide (beach shoes are needed)

Stayed in February for 9 days and unfortunately we had to say that this is not a 5 star hotel but rather a 3 star hotel. Beach nice, otherwise many drawbacks in service, kitchen, room, overall package.

Simply AMAZING! Incredible long white pristine beach (sand is really powder like...), clear water, far from noise and crowded places. Spacious villas, well furbished and with private small pool. The food was excellent with a different set-up for every night (Swahili dinner is a must...). Smiling staff. If you are looking for a relaxing, authentic and luxury place, Konokono must be your choice!

This report should actually be entitled: Honeymoon...

This report should actually be entitled: Honeymoon in Paradise
But far from it!

The positive:
- the view is great
- the sand on the beach is as fine as powdered sugar
- The food in the resort is extensive and delicious.

Now unfortunately the negative:
Getting there:
Unfortunately, we arrived on the island late because our flight was changed. When we arrived at the resort in the evening we were greeted in a friendly manner by a young man in traditional clothing and went with him to the reception area .

There were two men (one younger, one older) and a young lady (who sat on the armchair that was intended for the visitors and did not consider it necessary to rise to greet them).

It seemed difficult to find the documentation for our booking. The younger man and the lady were busy with their smartphones.

The older of the two seemed to be responsible for the guests and tried in vain to give a professional impression.

After a short back and forth we were able to check in and were taken to our beach pavilion.

The room:
This is where the nightmare really started. Wear and pollution wherever you looked. Dirty grout, dirty sheets, dirty towels. Dirty toilet, crumbling walls and worn furniture.

Too much for my wife, who left the room crying. We didn't want to spend a night there, but because it was so late the agency was unable to organize other accommodation at such short notice.

The hotel complex:
After we got through the night, we tried to get an overall impression early in the morning. Unfortunately we only found more things that confirmed our impression of the previous evening.

Weathered sun loungers, worn sun beds, littered beach and overgrown paths.

Not at all what we hoped for in a 5 star resort.

The service:
We ended up going for breakfast which, like dinner, was plentiful and tasty.

After we finished, we sat down in the "chill out area" with a cup of coffee and waited for the agency to give us feedback.

We sat in front of our empty coffee cups for 2.5 hours without a person (and there was plenty of staff present) asked whether we need anything, whether it is going well or whether we could be helped in any other way.

Finally it was time for lunch. I ordered a club sandwich for 14 and a beer. My wife had long since lost her appetite.

In the meantime we got a message that we would be picked up soon.

The departure:
After we finished lunch we went to the reception. There received and the guest manager, whom we told we want to check out. We had our suitcases fetched and the little man disappeared.

There was still a bill from the previous evening that I paid to the younger of the men. However, not the bill for the food and drinks consumed on the day of departure.

We hoped that we would be waived these costs. Wrong thought! The phone rang and the gentleman was informed about the outstanding invoice amount. We were asked to pay the amount.

(Note: When we arrived as a newly married couple, we were invited for a 30 minute massage and a romantic dinner. We did not use any of these)

We refused to pay the outstanding amount. The older man and another man came over to discuss whether we should be exempted from the amount or not.

The word "rating" was mentioned very often and after about 10 minutes we were waived the amount and the checkout was ready.

The sometimes unknown gentleman threw us a nasty "happy honeymoon" after us and our experience at the Konokono Beachresort was over.

This place is majestically beautiful!! It has a long white powdery beach. The villas are beautifully made and each villa has a private swimming pool. The only downside is that it is 1:30 mins drive from Stone Town but who cares if you are here for relaxation

Konokono is a fantastic hotel, there s absolutely no denying it. The beach is glorious (better than the Indian Ocean facing east coast resorts), the sea is glorious - the entire setting is stunning and the number of guests is perfect for quiet relaxation. Sipping on a cold Kilimanjaro beer watching sunset....what could be better? Konokono sets the bar high for itself, it s a 5 star hotel and is not cheap, therefore minor issues do take the shine off. As other reviewers have mentioned the service was a little relaxed at times (4 star - no problem, 5 star maybe you want sharper service) but I must say the senior staff were professional to a tee. The Beach Pavillion, although fabulous did look a little tired in places (again, 4 star - expected, 5 star you notice these things). Finally, and I know it s not their fault the nearby beach bar s music was a little loud for a little too long (1-2am), for heavy sleepers it won t be an issue but it was just enough to disturb me, I sorted the situation by administering plenty of Kilimanjaro and ear plugs. Overall we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and we loved it but the pencil needs sharpening in some areas.

My only complaint is that I should have stayed longer!! I am still dreaming of Konokono.

From the moment I arrived at the airport in Zanzibar, it was off to a great start. The loveliest driver from Konokono named Hamisi was waiting for me with a sign. He would end up driving me around Zanzibar throughout my stay there, introducing me to the culture through sightseeing, good music, and conversation!

Upon arriving at Konokono, you're immediately greeted by the kindest, warmest group of people who know you, remember you, and ensure that each individual guest receives a 5 star (can I say 6 star?) experience. Ally Chota Head of Guest Relations, is an absolute star. He made sure everyone gave me VIP treatment, and even set it up so I would receive only delicious vegan meals when I would attend a dinner. Among the others who really went above and beyond are Rebecca, Harold, and many others!!

I stayed at the private Beach Pavillion, which is the most beautiful spacious room, complete with A/C, a huge beautifully designed bathroom, giant fluffy bed with mosquito net draping, private outdoor plunge pool, patio, and private beach chairs. Cocktails and food can be delivered pool-side or to your room. I recommend the Pina Colada made fresh!

As a single female traveler, my first thoughts upon entering a new place are all around safety. Ally reassured me that the grounds are patrolled by traditonal Maasai tribesmen (who you really do see patrolling the beaches and walkways to keep the resort being and feeling safe at all times and when you talk to them are super warm and helpful). The staff was always respectful and friendly, and by the end of the visit I would happily call them my friends.

Another memorable highlight was experiencing a live serenade by a group of traditonal musicians during dinner, overlooking the endless sea. So authentic and mesmerizing.

Through the hotel, I booked excursions and went diving with dolphins twice, snorkeling, and visiting the Rock. I also saw the cutest monkeys in nearby Jozani forest. I prefered seeing the quiet villages, coasts, and meeting the wonderful locals so I spent only a little time in Stone Town (which is also a beautiful and educational tour the hotel arranges, but the city itself is a bit busier than what I was looking for on this trip). I fell in love with Michamvi, the area in which Konokono is located.

Overall, the resort itself is beyond stunning, with clean, luxurious rooms, fine dining, and a breathtaking white coastline and pure serenity. But the hospitality of the people working at or with Konokono took it to the next level.

I would recommend this to anyone coming to Zanzibar (singles, couples, friends, and families). I seriously cannot wait to come back!

What a paradise resort! The monkeys visit you when you relax in your own pool, the beach is sooo white and the sand soo soft. Stand-up paddleboarding or kayaking are free. The dear man at the stand even carries the stand-up to the sea. The waiters are incredibly kind and attentive (we especially loved Jim and Agnes). We were there in February and everything worked out wonderfully despite Corona. It is cleaned twice a day. I can recommend the sea view villa. So so beautiful! We were completely enchanted. The food in the restaurant tastes extremely good and very varied even if you stay for two weeks. The hotel responded to all of our requests. The internet works fine too. However, if you work and want to make video calls, you have to be patient. However, it works wonderfully for Instagram, FB, etc. Even streaming series on Netflix was no problem. I recommend the hotel 100%. Book it !! Have fun!!

Fantastic powdered sugar soft white sand beach. On...

Fantastic powdered sugar soft white sand beach. One of the best beaches in Zanzibar is right at the kono kono beach resort. If you are looking for peace and a beautiful large sandy beach, this is the right place for you. Loungers and additional beds on the beach for free. Very well-kept, clean hotel's own beach with a beach volleyball field and table tennis. You can swim far without getting to corals. There are only a few beach boys on the beach, but they were very discreet. For vacationers who want to book excursions (snorkeling, safari, water sports ..) the offers of the beach boys or in the hotel complex are lucrative.

The entire hotel complex is beautifully embedded in nature, beautiful plants and well cared for!

The facility is secured by masseuses who are very friendly. You felt comfortable and safe at all times.

The staff is extremely friendly and courteous. In particular, the friendly concierge should be highlighted.

The view from the pool to the beach and the Indian ocean is fantastic.

The dinner in the evening is very romantic and delicious. The staff are great!

The rooms all have a small pool, are well embedded in the beautiful garden and hotel complex and are very clean, large with a large bathroom.

The hotel is 1.30 hours from the airport. Those who do not have a transfer included in the trip can take an official taxi from the airport to the hotel (cost 70 dollars, but it is negotiable) we paid 60 dollars for the taxi ride. On this trip you can get a good insight into the lives of the residents.

The only point of criticism is the road shortly before the hotel (3km), which is difficult to drive on, but the buses and taxis can use this bumpy road. Once you've arrived, the drive to the dream beach is worth it!

Delicious drinks, food, friendly staff who always read everything from the aigen.

Fantastic hotel!

On behalf of my family who stayed this December in the Konokono beach resort I d like to inform you about the inappropriate conduct of the resort team, which deleted our review from TripAdvisor. My family booked and paid for 4 nights in the new Isaraya luxury villas, owned by and located in the Konokono beach resort. Upon arrival there were several problems, the main one is that the short ladder from the villa did not reach the water, making it impossible to swim for those who have difficulty walking. Frequent electricity cuts were another issue. My family asked the management to allow to leave after 3 nights, refunding the money for the 4th night. They were assured in writing of the readiness to agree on that, but the manager refused to issue a refund a day prior to departure. On the day of departure there was no cash available, and the return to the card did not work. Nevertheless, there was a written confirmation of the hotel's obligations and assurance of immediate transfer to the account within 2 days, which didn t happen. Now a month has passed and there is no reaction to calls and letters, and our review was deleted from the TripAdvisor (first it was publishes, so TripAdvisor approved it). If the money is refunded, we will update the review to inform about it.

The stay at this hotel was the most frustrating of all my travels. There is a huge potential, the staff is super charming and kind, the beach is beautiful but when the management lets die such a place, it's sad. The staff had to work with uniforms stained permanently, the cousins of the chairs also in a poor condition. The hotel offers games of beaches (ping pong, petanque etc ...), unfortunately the equipment is very damaged. The restoration is poor (always the same thing, always buffet and often bland). Technical problems in our rooms were never fixed during our stay when they had been reported. It took me many months to decide to write this opinion, but saying nothing will not help them. The potential is there, the place is beautiful but if you do not maintain it ....

Exceptional hospitality and location. Spoiled with a magnificent sunset, on the east coast. The beach is quiet, with a few bars within walking distance. Perfect for honey mooners, perhaps too little action for family's travelling with teens, but the hotel ground was equipped with pool table and other entertaining games. There were jetski and water sport possibilites on the beach for the more adventurous. This is one of the more intimate 5 star hotels the island has to offer, and provided a much more personal experience than the other 5 star resorts I have visited on the island. In which you might get the impression you are a part on a conveyor belt in a large tourist-charter machine. Can warmly recommend a couple of days here, dont miss out on the wildlife in the nearby Jozani forest (25 min drive).

Avoid this noisy 4-star hotel, we shortened our stay
We expected great new overwater villas and 5-star hotel standards. Recent delisting of this hotel from major booking platform should have warned me. It was rather suffering than relaxing due to never-ending annoying extremely loud techno music from nearby bar, poor hotel equipment, ugly beach and incompetent top manager. First time in our live we decided to shorten our stay there and move to other hotel even risking that we do not get refund for unused days (which happened). Luckily the next hotel was fantastic.
Biggest positive new pier and overwater villas look nice, even though there are a lot of issues.
The biggest negatives:
1) Noise, BIG NOISE, from nearby beach bar it starts at around 2PM each day and lasts till late night. My apple watch showed over 60 dB on the worst days at both dinner and villa area and over 50 dB in the best days. Complains on this noise was practically the only topic when talking to other guests. We have seen one lady to even scream on management because of this issue.
2) This hotel doesn t meet many of official 5-star hotel requirements (e.g. missing fitness, SPA, daily cleaning of the floors and plenty of others) and except pier with villas it also looks more like ordinary 3-star hotel (no atmosphere, cheap restaurant equipment, no maintained garden,...).
3) Beach was definitely the far ugliest 5-star hotel beach we have ever seen (unbelievable amount of not cleaned seaweed + plenty of cheap old huts ).
Villa looks nice, but finishing is poor e.g. water leaks through every window during the rain. Materials used inside are shocking cheap, especially furniture. There is real problem with privacy half the of terrace is visible from the pier. As the stairs do not go down enough, we were able to go to water and climb back to villa only approx. 1 hour per day at high tide, when 3 stairs at 2 m height were covered with water. No way to use stairs it by older people. Security issue strange local fishermen parking at villa terrace stairs. Power outages 10 times per day. Internet sufficient only to mails and website browsing.
Massages we went to local massage room as pointed by signs. I have never seen so ugly and dirty hole see the picture. Shame on you, hotel manager.
Food good seafood and pasta. The rest is mostly catastrophe and the quality varies. Especially local food is disgusting unlike at other places. Poor plating and lot of basic mistakes.
Restaurant service perfect waiter at breakfast and couple of good guys at dinner On the beginning of our stay they were delivering coffee from main restaurant usually 40 minutes. Some guys at bar can not even operate coffee machine.
Cleaning services generally acceptable at the villa, but terrible at public places windows, mirrors, stairs, pathways are not cleaned. I drew a sun on the terribly dirty window at restaurant, it was there even after a week. Toilets sometimes smelling.
Management openly saying, hotel is not managed at all. There were only two guys, who really wanted to improve services (food and service manager and guest relation manager) and they tried to implement something already during our stay. Top manager of the hotel, old guy, is e.g. walking in dirty areas and he just doesn t see it. He tries to be unreachable for complaining guests and doesn't fulfill its promises repeatedly.
PS: After the hotel reply below, which is full of obvious and funny lies, I did some research. I have found that the hotel clearly doesn t comply with several Zanzibar 5-star vacation hotel requirements described in Zanzibar tourism act 2009, actually it should only be 3-star hotel according to this act. How is it possible for hotel to get two star higher category by Zanzibar Tourism Commission, and be so arrogant on the top of that? I discovered that hotel is owned by Amina Amani Karume, daughter of Zanzibar ex-president, Mr. Amani Abeid Karume. BINGO - that seems to explain it all.

A real paradise set in a lush tropical garden. Wonderful beach with an incredibile white powder sand and clear water. My sea view villa (they told me it's really brand new) was amazing, spacious, well furbished and with a large patio and a (yeah...!) private plunge pool. Food excellent and smiling service as well. At the beach you can find kayak and SUP and paddle to the near mangrove forest and an incredible white bank sand. Or get a bike and follow the shore for several kilometres... Recommended!!

Located in the bay of Michamvi, in an environment that allows you to appreciate 100% the natural beauty allowing you to enjoy a beautiful beach where the rise and fall of the tide is common as the beautiful sunsets. From the reception you go through a garden where villas are distributed, you can see Mankis monkey until you reach the restaurant, the pool and appreciate the beach from there. The hotel is in keeping with that nature, the rooms are fine and all the staff are very friendly, it is worth noting the careful attention of its Manager Manager Maurizio. We appreciate all the attention they had with us, especially the beautiful dinner on the beach, which is worth it.
As for meals, both breakfast, lunch and dinner are simple and limited but it must be borne in mind that the hotel is located in a remote part of the island and provisioning must be difficult. Considering this, the best thing about staying here is the natural environment that makes it a paradise.

Konokono is a rleaxed and luxurious resort tucked away on a peninsula. The villas with plunging pool are large, well kept and luxurious, large bathrooms, great sleeping comfort and tea/coffee facilities in the villa. The open restaurant and pool area is just beautiful and dinner is set amongst the stars. The beach is well kept and extremely white sandy. There are canoes, surfboards and sports facilities available. The sea is nice although snorkeling is disappointing, not much to see. You would have to rent a boat to get further out. Renting and booking transport to Stonetown is very expensive, so try to go to the beach huts next, they are arrange things for less than half.

Me and my husband visited this hotel on a weekend in April, 2021. We booked the hotel on Saturday of the weekend we were going to stay there. We got an amazing deal for a villa (with a plunge pool). It was an amazing experience. The resort cleanliness, the staff, the food, the beach, the free activities (kayaking, snooker pool, pedal boat, etc.), the room and the plunge pool was all worth every penny we spent on!! The food is highly recommended - extremely fresh and delicious. We are vegetarian so the chef and the hotel manager was kind enough to tweak the dishes (from the fixed menu) to our taste. As this was a last minute plan, we did not even have a charger to charge our phones...we were helped with that as well several times. Thank you so much Konokono. Just one complain we had was for the room service which was a bit slow. Rest, it was an unforgettable experience!

Worst hotel stay we've ever had! One star is still too many. We travel a lot, but we've never seen anything like it. This is definitely not worth 5 stars and absolutely overpriced. We wanted to spend our honeymoon there and had already booked and paid for everything for November in June 2018. When we got there, it was said that our money had not arrived and that we have to pay again.
In the end there were internal disputes that were fought on the back of the customer (us). One of the parties received the money, which was not accepted by the local management. After we had a lot of problems for three days, did not get our booked room, the police and even a lawyer were there, we were offered three options.
1. We have to pay everything again
2. We should sue the owners or
3. Depart within 45 minutes

The staff was super unfriendly, it wasn't clean and the service was a disaster! The beach activities, such as SUP or beach ball, were damaged or balls were missing.

The end of the story: after three days we left completely exhausted without any apology and the money originally paid was gone.

We can only advise everyone against this hotel and do not recommend booking via the website under any circumstances.

Beautiful location and amazing villas. Staff is extremely hospitable and accommodating. Breakfast spread is limited however it is all excellent and flavorful. Dining menu is leaning towards locals cuisines but still have options for everyone. Resort is fairly isolated which is the way we wanted it as we were looking for a relaxed holiday with minimal excursions. Bonus star for their duo of magical masseuses, they truly could rejuvenate your tired body and soul.

We ve spent 4 nights in the garden villa at Konokono beach resort. Its a beautiful, spacious room with small private garden area and plunge pool. The hotel combines the jungle feeling and beach vacation perfectly. All in all we were very happy with our stay but there are a few downsides.

Some things in the rooms as well as in the common areas seemed a bit old. Such as the shower and toilet in the room. Also the big pool on the sun deck and the pathways could need some retouch.
In my opinion there is not enough shade around the sunbeds at the pool and on the beach.

The food was nice. Especially diner we enjoyed a lot. Unfortunately there were a lot of flies, mostly during breakfast, which was very annoying. However lunch on most days was average.

A big plus for us was that you can use stand up paddling and kayaks for free. There are quite a lot of amenities, such as Pool, table tennis, volley ball, and the above mentioned. Sadly they did not have balls for badminton and racketball.

I spent this year's Christmas and New Years in this hotel. It was a beautiful time. I rate the hotel very high by the standards of Zanzibar. Our room with the pool was a relief for us on hot noons, and the company of monkeys and cats was a great variety for boys. Beach good, pollution is standard in line with the tides and tributaries. However, the beach was raided and cleaned every day. I was able to swim in peace every day at sunset and sunrise. A beach full of locals with a great chillout bar open 24/7. Good food, great music. We spent a lot of time there. This is undoubtedly a variety for tourists of this hotel. In addition, this bar hosted daily "evenings for tourists". While the hotel had elegant dinners and quiet breakfasts, the hotel offers good food and service. In addition, the infinity pool impresses with its location among lush vegetation and overlooking the beach , which in the part belonging to the hotel is exceptionally impressive. I recommend this hotel, but I advise you to choose higher standard rooms to fully enjoy your holiday

A location with a dream view and epic sunsets! The food is very good and the staff very friendly and quite acceptable prices! The villas are very spacious but should have more privacy and should be renovated! Unfortunately, the whole complex is outdated and from what I understand it will be renovated! There are 5 newly built waterfront villas that are truly 5 star! The beach is very wide and with fine white sand! The resort offers surfboards and kayaks for free! The moments of animation or at least the music in the whole complex are completely missing! I warmly recommend that it be renovated! I wish them success!
